About 2 month ago when I got an OiFH inspiration surge!

It fizzled and died within the hour. I tend to blog a lot more now. Shame though. I like mapping, but, damn do you need the time to do it.

There is a VIS menu in the compile box. Check the 'max' option.

Also, you'll have to actually set up vis groups in your map first. :P

Don't just launch straight into modelling for Source. Start modelling for the heck of it, learn about the techniques and processes (it's different to mapping). Then work at getting into Source.
or you can start with rimrook's modeling tutorials for the hell of it
Thats kinda why I posted the link.

I don't know where I heard it but the day I opened Hammer 2.1 for the first time ever back in 1999 I knew not to use the path tool. Don't know why, but I never did anyway.

It would be so much easier to use path_tracks, seriously.

That pistol model is far too large. It obstructs the players view far too much.

The shotgun model too, looks a little strange. I think its the arm...

Maps look about average.

I would have a better Theme + Wallpaper but it seems ThemeXP's designs all require that shitty StyleXP software now.

I aint paying for my fucking desktop to look different! I'd rather go back to Windows 3.1.

And yes that model is straight from HL1 on the PS2. Ambient impacts is a more enhanced version of this model. I am not blessed with such skill :(

Its Barney. I'd assume he was hungover. :P
Isn't the PS2 one the same as the one from the HD model pack? you could've just skinned that.
PS2 models have a few more polys + bones (e.g. moving eyes, chinstrap and all 5 fingers and other such crap) but lower texture quality.

Anywho, worked on a Barney model for about 3 hours yesterday, another hour this evening and at some point tomorrow i will make him PC compatable and downloadable. :)

Here's a sneak peak. The textures are mostly 512x256 so the screenie does little justice. :P

Incoming Epic Yahtzee quote: "Which was your favourite Quake level? The brown castle, the greeny grey temple or the other brown castle?"

Quake 2 was an awesome game, don't get me wrong but its not one I could go back to over and over like I did with HL1.

Quake 2 looked incredible when it was released and a few years later HL1 pushed the engine even further. Games companies seem to like cramming in the detail these days and it has to stop!

They pay so much money getting it to look 'realistic' (and it never does) and when it comes to the gameplay they seem to rush it. Look at doom 3. It took bumpmapping to a whole new level and looked amazing (albeit a little heavy with the shadows but I guess thats the style they wanted) and the game itself was a complete bore.

While Graphics continue to advance, most developers seem to be recycling gameplay elements that are now incredibly outdated.

Q1. Gordon carries a crowbar because:

A: It is the first object he finds that could be used as a weapon.
B: Its original. Knives are boring.
C: More power behind a crowbars swing than a knife. Useful for breaking shit.

Q2. His lunch, a Nintendo DS and some porn.

erm...Breen is the old Black Mesa administrator who managed the Earths surrender to the combine, thus being rewarded with power over the Civil Protection and combine soldiers.
