Hmm it says it doesn't work.
Anyway I will stop posting pictures as it's spoiling the whole idea.

Now I don't want the map to look HL2ish all the time so I want to place pictures around the room.
Of course I don't know what pictures suit you so you may post links to 5 pictures max.
I will convert them to .vtf and they will be in your room.
If you don't post a link to 5 pictures then I will choose them for you.
(NO PORNO!)

Now finally for gamplay I have decided the plan of the map.
Everyone gets their own room with a song (if they want it) and a little text about them under the picture.
I was going to just connect the rooms up using doors but I thought it would be more interesting if I made a tunnel leading to a wall with a random persons profile on it. As you get closer you see it more clearly until you can see the name of the profile and as you touch it, you are teleported into that persons room.
I have some ideas for the style of rooms and I know exactly what i'm going to make for you Ant

I have started work on a basic structure and most people will have something like:

(This is for SariBous and the theme is what I felt suited him. Everyone else will have a room with different architectures and arches.)
They will have a brief description under the picture.

Anyway here is another question:

If you want a song you like played in your room which can only be turned on by a button then say the name and either send it to me or host it online so I can download it!
Please please no huge songs because I don't want to make the final file size 5000GB...
Any song is ok even if it has swear words in it or you can use a song from a game you might like. hint hint Half-Life

That may be the problem and you should choose HL1.

We all have our opinions and tbh my judgement is because I have had no problems so far

Anyway I have some news on what is going on!
As you can see above I posted a picture of all the people I have so far from TWHL and Snarpit.

Now I planning on making a map dedicated to the sites but I changed my mind slightly and thanks to 98 and Elon I have decided to make a room dedicated to each member who's face I have as a texture.
Now I am going to design a room each and place your face on a wall opposite to another wall with a small description about you.
I don't know much about all of you and I am merely writing what I think of you guys (no negatives!).

For example I am going to make a room for Seventh and I might write something like:

Seventh is a nice young man who helps newcomers when they are stuck. I have never seen a nicer guy and that is why this room is dedicated to him!
/ That is only an example and Seventh that is what I think

So there is the little details I don't know such as Real name, age etc...

If you don't want these details written down then say so here before I do so and stupidly I have so many faces that I forgot what ones belong to which member. I can remember a few like Hunter, Seventh, Elon etc...
So later on when I have a list I will post it here.

I saw a website that had a similar idea but it was a flash game where you chose the weapon and clicked the body part of the enemy and it showed how how it took off.

Yours is good though!

If you want to build it (it's for HL2DM) then by all means do it because it saves me time and you might enjoy it!
Just try to make it errorless.

Well you can tell it not to render the wall but if you can't be bothered to fix a hard problem then you will be too lazy to do the rest and as each bad mistake builds up the worse the map performs.

So I suggest that you fix it.
I mean how hard can it be?

Any chance you could let him know how to fix it rather than just slagging him off? Or don't you know?(ed: Andy)

Honestly the map is going to look weird and thats the idea!
It doesn't have to flow and any shape or size or theme will do!
If you wan't then make then make the perfect room 'yourself' and I'll just add the picture...

Either way I don't care. I just want to make a cool custom map for my buddies

Oh and post it here whenever!

Umm I don;t mind big pictures because when I make them smaller the pixels are more compact and the quality looks much better compared to a stretched texture.

Although it would be useful if they were resized to the power of 2...

I can make a room dedicated to you but I need a few others to volunteer as well tbh your not as important as other people I know (no offence) but some guys such as Rabid, Andy, 'Seventh'

have been here a long time and I think 'they' deserve a room.
If you really want a room then suck up the energy to draw a simple diagram in paint or any other program you prefer.

Any picture quality is fine but take note that it might look rubbish and people might think your cheap

You can use both :S
Make a point_spotlight, light_spot and maybe a light to create a nice looking light with ray and circle at the bottom.

To map for HL2 all you need is Hammer 4.0 (The latest one)
If you use Steam then you should have an application called SDK. It should be in the games list right at the bottom.

Mapping for HL2 is basically the same as HL1 but they're are a few extras such as cubemaps and the new trigger system.

No, not to have fun while looking at them

but for my map project that I was asked to do.

I want to create the essence of my mind in a map e.g. the things I like and dislike.

and guess what! You guys are in the 'like' section so with your permission and help I would like to make a wall of TWHL members with your faces on them.
I have asked the same thing over at Snarkpit because the photo's are already uploaded but over here, well I see no link to a picture of yourself.

So thus I need you!
If your interested in having your face in a map along with half a dozen others with your name underneath then say so in this thread and post a link to a 'good' quality photo of yourself.
If you don't but don't mind having an avatar posted instead say so!

In case your interested I am making a room for each thing I dislike and like.
Your photo's will go in one room and Snarkpit's in another. I hope to achieve a descent HL2DM map for the Snarkpit competition!
It will also contain images of games I like (Zelda), fears such as spiders and websites I like such as interlopers.com, Iwannamap.com and TWHL.
This is kind of similar to the TWHL map made for CS by Rimrook.

Yes cubemaps are needed for lighting as well!
Place a env_cubemap near it and when playing the map open console and type buildcubemaps.
