in VIS question Post #11596
because without VIS, the map lighting is DIRECT ONLY, meaning that the light is simply radiated out from the light sources without any 'bounce' off the walls being calculated

you can get the same time saving effect by running RAD with -bounce 0

p.s. 'bounceing' lighting, for example, allows the ceiling around a light fixed into it to be lit from a texture light. Without bounce it would be entirely black!

for halflife single player, I tend to just teleport the player to a 'black room' (an invisible room outside of the map) and just let him drop onto or appear in the trigger_changelevel. Either try a teleporter with a master (so that it only works when you want), or something else that might let the player simply go into the changelevel brush at the right time.

I'm not very good at these in SP (TFC is a bajillion times easier), anyone else?

'It ends as you are stuck in the alien world'
Poke646 as well

Interesting idea, but I prefer more original ideas that distance from those already available and halflife itself. You seemed to put in a backstory, skipped the middle, and then put in the plot twist you probably thought of before writing this. You didn't really explain what you will actually be doing between retrieving gordon and going to Xen.

and on that note, Xen really does suck, please don't make a mod that has anything to do with xen ;)

right, vis takes seconds in fast mode, without it the map is usually unplayably laggy. Without basic RAD 'fullbright' lag is introduced, so it's usually best to try and do the basic compile of both.

Sometimes you just can't map in sections.

if you are talking about using 'run' in hammer, I strongly suggest you use HLCC 1.4 instead, a tool that really should be in everyone's arsenal as it makes compilation a breeze

oh and the command is +sv_lan 1

-bounce generally makes the map darker around lights (as only direct light), but at least it's still perfectly playable

I find it best to leave csg and bsp alone and opt for VIS -fast and RAD -bounce 0

cough*PUTERRORINTOPICTITLE*cough

load up the .map file in hammer and you'll see a bunch of solids all going crazy into the void, you'll have to delete and remake them back in the .rmf

either that or you did something mad like create a box BIGGER than the grid (don't even think thats possible anymore)

its a cliched phrase used too much with repetition for emphasis (hoho see what i did there?) in private eye. Thats a pretty good translation, it's usually used in the context of 'repeat ad nauseum' to refer to an infinate list of crap you could continue with, but wont.

I think he has placed an info_player_start and is expecting it to show a model, which hammer 3.5 can't do (its only intended for env_sprite/model ents)

'Seeing' the models in the 3d and 2d views simply helps one to clip them off if necessary. It's a helpful feature but 3.5 is just too damn buggy for general use.

a) WRITE THE PROBLEM IN THE TOPIC TITLE
b) This has been covered before, use the search tool in future please
c) Increase your pagefile size manually, or if you have no disk space left, free some! You tend to need a few gig or so for complicated compilations
d) Don't you dare quote the last two words of c 7th ;)
