Don't compile using hammer.

Compile using a batch file with a dos window - that way you can turn on -estimate and watch a proper % of work done...

Hammer does a lousy job of runing compiles.

BATCH BATCH BATCH! BATCH Compile !!! :aggrieved:  :badass: :nuke: :nuke:

well.. my diagram failed: i hope you got the general idea..

Remember "e" in the diagram is invisible - it's only a way to "trigger" adjasent func_breakables.

Hope that helped

in Landmines - but not in tutorial... Post #196215
To make your landmines:

Make a doubble Floor (or ground rather..)

Player walks here
X X X < this is the ground

Be Be Be < this is an invisible level
----------------------------------- < this is to seal up leaks ;)

-- is a brush

X is a trigger that trigggers the "land mine"
B is a func_breakable that also triggers the "land mine"
e is an env_explosion - it gets triggered by either the breakable, or the trigger - it explodes, and damages the closest func_breakable - triggering another mine :badass:

Final Compiles - Full Vis only.

You don't notice it straight away - but you feel it in game.

Always do -full vis for "final" maps. And Even for testing - because sometimes Full vis finds errors that Fast and Normal skip over

in "invisble one-way wall" problem Post #196208
It's usually a rogue vertex that's not quite on the grid.

It could be caused by anything - V.Manipulation, Carving, Even Hollowing - or inserting bad prefabs... Or even by the editor - when you resize several brushes at once.

Good way to avoid it is just to map out one brush at a time.

Sure beats moving your mouse carefully and trying to pinpoint coords.

Works a bit like Leakmark - only that's for leaks..

And get some proper compile tools. qbsp qrad.. those are old and crap :P

10 terabyte speed
Heh. You could probably figure a way to dump what you're downloading into RAM... since the best HDDs won't write faster than 3GB/s.

Anything over 100Mbit is a bit too much for even the most "Active" downloaders (Unless you run a server - lookin' at you Zombieloffe). When you get to 100Mbit internet, you start to run into Servers not having enough bandwidth for you. Unless it's bittorrent with other people on 100Mbit lines..

And remember kids, the speed of your Internet connection is proportional to the length of your ePenis! ;)

in Quake 4 Mapping Post #168445
Quake 4 is really a great game.

Fine, HL2 has a more interactive environment (all Quake 4 had was computer consoles).

But i found Quake 4 really enjoyable. I loved the story (yes.. there is one) and i liked the way you came back to the ship to relative safety after a long firefight. I also loved each and every vehicle level in Q4 (Some of them were WAY better than HL2's vehicles - the "MechWarrior" especially).

Having said that, I'll still play HL2 sooner than Q4.
