^^^

There's a difference between a map being 'ambient' and a map being 'unplayable'.

Then check out this properly wacky alternative to Hammer, rufee:
Microbrush 2

Definitely not my cup of tea, but some pretty cool ideas.
Anything worth your time in there, Pengy?

I sometimes forget that Strideh is basically a god when it comes to Source mapping because he releases content so rarely. Good grief that's beautiful.

in Problems with train rotation Post #319379
I'm in work so I can't check the RMF, but there are a few things that might be the culprit.

First, always build your train so that it is facing 0 degrees (east, in top view). It will teleport to its first stop target on mapload, so you can have it set to change its orientation based on the direction of the path_track it's following in the entity properties, rather than rotating it in Hammer.

Second, trains require an Origin brush. They will not behave properly without one.

Third, trains should have UserControl as a flag option without needing a separate trigger entity.

Hope that helps!

Finished the layout of my Control sequel. This is the fastest I've ever turned around a map of anywhere near this scale, having only spent about 4 days on it.
I'm really happy with the result, hopefully it'll prove fun on the server. Just got a few entity setups and lighting tweaks left to go and I'm calling it finished.

Edit: Actually, does it still count as a fast turnaround if the map has technically been eight years' due?

Utopium is on Multiplay (the server host)'s official maplist, so they've generated a .res for it. I promise there are no maps on the server that can't either a) be downloaded here or b) be downloaded from the server without a problem.

That said, Utopium was actually removed from the map rotation after that first night.

Did you generate a .res? I would have put it on the server with the map if you did, because I just upload the archives exactly as I download them.

I'm really looking forward to finally getting another proper mapping session on my Control sequel tonight. Work and social life have gotten in the way every day since I last showed progress on Monday. I got about 45 minutes on it last night, but absolutely nothing planned tonight so I'll hopefully finish it up.

This wouldn't be so bad if you could select a face in 3D which has the settings you need and right-click new faces like you can with Hammer but that doesn't work either.
It does, it's just not the default now for some reason - would be a good change, actually, pebs. There's currently a left click and right click actions list in the face editor.

is it possible somehow to use something similar to smoothing groups in goldsource?
I don't believe so.
The light bridges from Portal look a bit odd though
Yeah, I'm not really sure why I put them in, but I actually really like the overall ambient spill they're adding, and they definitely benefit gameplay. And yeah, no clue why they're casting shadows. They're func_walls :/
No-one's ever on whenever I check
Just invite people through the TWHL steam group. I'll almost always jump on for a few rounds if someone asks. :D
Archie, is that standard Goldsource? If so, how'd you manage to get such a smooth shadow casted from the railing with transparent texture?
It is indeed. It's a light_spot casting through a SOLID rendermode texture with its HLRAD opacity set to opaque. The concrete texture is scaled to 0.50 which creates a higher resolution lightmap grid, and therefore more defined shadows. It also always helps to compile with Vluzacn's incredible tools which blend shadows much more realistically, as well as using a 3x bounce to really soften them.

Glad the rotation eventually started working. Sorry I had to disappear early, had some people round for drinks. Utopium will download correctly from the server as it was already part of the host's map selection so they'll have made a .res file for it.
As well as those listed by DiscoStu, Aquatos is also part of the rotation, so you'll need to download that.

Tonight's additions will be:

Apartment X2
Blue Paradise (Will replace Utopium on the rotation)
BeerFort
Control

Had a full server there for ages :)

Sorry the new maps weren't available yet! This is the message I got from the host:
This map is currently rolling out to your machine and should be available to play within the next hour.

It may be available to add to your map rotation in ClanForge already , but be aware that until the files have fully rolled out the server will skip the map. This is normal until the rollout is complete so please do not contact support unless this persists.

Cooler than Trinity, still just as pointless. Use Source for its capabilities or Goldsource for its charm - not something that tries to be both and ends up falling short in both regards.

Nice update, dude! What's the plan with the .obj integration?

Noticed a weird behaviour when undoing deletion of a brush.
If I delete a brush then ctrl+z the action, the brush doesn't come back, though its bounding box selection does.

Getting a crash when clipping and trying to keep both sides. It creates a preview plane of the clip that seems to be infinite. Is that normal? It crashes when I hit enter.

Also, in Hammer if you hold shift and use the arrow keys in 3D view it will pan. Any chance of getting this functionality in Sledge?

Finally, just curious if you've got any plans to integrate multiple-tile fitting to the face editor. It must be the oldest request you have now! ;D

I would usually recommend Dota 2 to everyone, despite its complex and steep learning curve. However, it's maybe not the best choice for someone on a doctor's schedule who also happens to be an awesome dad. It's not really something you can just pick up and drop again. A lot like patients or children in that regard.

Phenomenal game. Not long - I finished the main story and all the side quests in around nine hours, but I loved every minute. Captures the feel of the show so flawlessly that there are points where you realise you are just watching South Park and there is nothing wrong with that what-so-ever.

I recommend getting the most expensive plastic surgery option for optimum lulz.
