Check this riddle/puzzle out. It got me confused for about half an hour trying to figure out what the answer to it was. It's so satisfying knowing the answer afterwards.

As the article states, people in the know should not tell people who are not in the know. They should only taunt them with their superior knowledge :)

I'll be able to know if you know the answer to the riddle if you can give me the answer to this roll. PM or something to avoid having to put up fresh rolls.

Yes, the whole world is accurately portrayed by hollywood. Transformers, Pirate of The Carribean, Spiderman and Superman are all based on real events.

That graph just shows human advancement. We've always come up with better ways of dealing with general issues and we will continue to develop. If anything, the graph shows how amazingly we've progressed in the last two centuries.

You're going to call me crazy for saying this, but I think the next logical step is living on other planets. It's not something that we'll be capable of doing in the near future, but at the rate physics is progressing we could be living on a different planet in the next 100 years. Just like how cars have revolutionized transportation something else will eventually come forward.

ZOMG Sorry, I just wrote then posted this and realised how horribly off-topic I've gone. I forgot the thread was about a Granny getting shot.

It would be nice if Facebook gave a preview of the service on their site. I'm not sure what to expect if I register, then again they're probably just relying on person-to-person recommendations driving new registrations.

Is it anything like MySpace? Because from the descriptions it sounds like a MySpace style site, but cleaner-cut.

Religion is about control. That's the biggest fundamental idea. The Roman Catholic Church doesn't suggest that you follow it's rules to go to heaven. It demands that you follow the rules, otherwise you will go to hell. It's the same with almost every religion. Even Buddhism, one of the more sensible religions has a certain degree of controlling within it.

Another good book to read is 'The God Delusion' it's very very atheist driven but the arguments in there are all very logical and I think a Christian could probably read the book without getting too upset. I think I might post my teachers critique of the book, he's a very smart guy and tries to find as many pitfalls in the book as possible, even being an atheist himself. Well worth reading the book and the review.

As much as I want to blame the Americans, I think it's like that all over the world, Boxtop.

The very fact that there are all-female clans shows how few females there are, if you consider the fact that these clans are usually pretty small. Then consider how many female gamers you have come across in these games. You kind of come to a mini-conclusion that all serious female gamers are in all-female clans so when you look at one such clan you're looking at the rough total female population for that game.

However, that's one hell of a sidetrack from the topic of this thread. So I'll stop now.

Christianity, Judaism and Islam all fall under one category, I can't remember the word but it describes their somewhat unified belief in Jesus.

I've got to say, I used to be well and truly atheist but since entering #jesus (an IRC channel on gamesurge all about... Jesus!) I've become a lot more agnostic. My main principles however, still stand;

1.) Why should I choose to believe the word of people from over 2000 years ago?
2.) If a God does exist, why should I worship him?
3.) If God did exist he wouldn't require all this mumbo-jumbo. He would realise that some of us would question religion in this way and so he would construct it differently for us to understand fully.

It all boils down to faith. In my opinion that's the last barrier that monotheists have standing. It's also the hardest for atheists to break. I can't argue past something that will only reveal itself to me if I believe in it. That is the only real acheivement of religions. They've made an unbreakable philosophical arguement. On the bright side, the notion that when you die you're dead and you rot to death is also pretty strong.

Discrimination can only take place against a minority within a population. That's what's so fucked up about religious debates, there is no minority most of the time. There are some atheists, some religious people and some agnostics. It's the fact that there is no general conscensus which makes debates on religion so fun.

I agree with ZL here, inciting is fun and it gets debates going. People who complain about this type of thread are just being pussies. If you can't stand to support your beliefs then why believe in them?

The original argument was that some people thought it was way too early to have the Christmas avatars up. Stop acting like 'tards by trying to take away someones right to believe in/do whatever they want. If someone doesn't want to take your advice then leave it at that, acting forceful can't help anything.

That said, it'd be nice to have a religion debate. Especially if there could be some type of (neutral) Chairman who can distinguish between the properly put forward arguments and the people who want a slang-match.

You've got to remember that not all countries use the Georgian calendar system, mainly those sand-niggers in the East. So Christmas isn't really the time where everyone can unite, just Western civillization.

I'm with Elton John here, all organised religion should be banned.

Judgement method: If there's no clear consensus, then a majority vote will decide.

Deadline: Tuesday the 8th of August.

Just to help the people who don't have a clue what Web-2.0 means/is:

Web 2.0 basically describes a new generation of websites/services that have the user-experience and such as first priority. Such as flickr and digg. Both also use the same design philosophies, which is what this competition is concentrating on. May the shiniest alias win! :D

I think it's wrong to make ones child believe in a certain religion. He or she should be able to make up their own mind in due time about what to believe in.
I couldn't agree more. I know of a few people who have been unknowingly forced. They say it's their religion and the one they'd choose but it's clear they've been brainwashed from infancy. I even know of a 16 year-old who has never sworn in his life (or so he says), because he believes it is a sin. He even chooses to hang around with his Christian friends over atheists, and is encouraged by his parents to do so :/

Come to think of it, this guy is quite the sad brainwashed asshole.

This is something I've had to consider increasingly over the last few months. Whether to decrease the amount I compute and concentrate on other areas eg. education or.. :o a social life. Whether you like it or not, anyone who maps is already pretty addicted and spends the majority of their time in front of a computer screen, let alone coding or other more intense acitivities. There's something about this pc thing, I've never heard of a console affecting a person, only computers that can perform more than one task and therefore explore many more areas.

I'm kinda playing devils advocate here a bit, but also digressing a lot. :D

Eh, surely you agree that it could have a slight effect in a tense situation?
Music gets me revved up too, but we don't blame deaths on rock do we? Well, we used to. Rock music used to be the spawn of all evil and created reckless yobs that wondered the streets looking for hash and whatnot.

We are going through the same cycle but with a different scapegoat. Nations always need something/someone to blame to keep them satisfied. Jews, Islam, rock, video games. Some are more extreme than others, but you get my point.

I have the feeling I might have slightly digressed :D Ah well.

Yeah, I'd be very interested, even though I don't have any children (that I know of).

One more point about the name.
The Nintendo Wii IM system will be called: !!M Which is Wii reflected in a mirror and backwards. More pure genius.

Sony have gone one step too far on the stealing ideas thing, they've trademarked 'PooS'. It seems like a direct reaction to the Wii's catchy name imo.

Microsoft have actually been original this time around, they're just concentrating on their sector of the market while they know that Nintendo will break new ground in the family sector.
