The new God of War looks awesome. I'm looking forward to killing Thor and Odin, though I get the feeling the Loki fight may be a bitch.

While I'm not a fan of superhero games, with Insomniac working on Spider-man, it'll likely be a really good game...a departure for the series in recent years. :P

I think the Cross Platform thing is less about trying to kill the Xbox, and more about trying to push Windows 10, as, sadly, you need to get the games from the Windows 10 Store. Windows 7/8.1 users are left out in the cold, making their new slogan "Play without Boundaries" a tad ironic.

I was finally able to get on and prepare to start the other day (my new comp has, I'm convinced, literally been screwing with me). Hopefully I'll get back on in a day or two and find a nice, unclaimed mountain area.

I think you're well within your rights to be a Thread Necromancer here.

As for a Rocket League Tournament, it would give me an excuse to pull the trigger and get the game. If only my new PC wasn't on hold due to part availability. :(

Unless things have changed in the last month since JackFrags posted this video, it's free, pre-alpha and basically 100% community driven. It looks fun, but at this time, I can't play it. While my Core 2 Duo may be able to run it in some low detail, horrible FPS form, my GTX 285 isn't DX11 compatible. :(

Source engine games are fine though, 95% of the time (my drivers crash and I have to restart the game :( )

Perhaps we should consider Black Mesa Deathmatch.

It's going to take a hell of a lot more than that to get me a life. :P

The new date just happens to overlap with pre-release events for the new Magic: The Gathering set, which I enjoy. I'll miss at most the first 2 hours.

As for bitchy, having to get up that early is a pretty good excuse to be. Any time I have to get up before 12pm, I have a hard time.

In NA, the start time will range from 1pm to 5pm, depending on location. Unless they work in civil protection (police/fire/etc.), or some kind of customer service, we typically have the day off.

Personally, I currently have no job/life, so I can play at (almost*) any time.

*Edited after realising that I'll be late because what little life I have will delay me this time.

That game does look interesting, but I haven't played that type of game since SimCity 2000, and at the time at least, I couldn't get into it for very long.

I might get it if it goes on sale for cheap...and what I think is a single install limit only means one computer at a time (limited installs tend to be deal breakers with me)...and I get a comp that can run it without the houses looking like potatoes.

CSSTOP kinda works for me.

I'm still using a GTX 285, and as I'm sure you guys have heard, there's a long standing issue with GeForce 2xx and 3xx series cards and the Source engine. Between them being legacy cards at this point and neither nVidia or Valve saying 'it's on our end', I doubt it'll ever get fixed.

I can only play for [insert random time interval] before my driver crashes, and I have to:

[if windowed = yes] restart the game.

[if windowed = no] force restart my comp.

While, yes, the shape is uncommon (I've got a similarly oddly shaped plot near me, only with one arm), it's not not unheard of.

Using this Google Maps area tool, puts the total property at about 3.9 acres. Zeeba's corner is about 0.17 acres, and, though not quite square, around 87' by 87'. Looks like a good size to me.

That's cool. Now my tombstone isn't there.

After spending 2 hours in single player, trying to figure out the game, I hopped on the server to check it out. After walking over to a stray NPC to check things out (during the day) without event, I started back to spawn, only to be slain...by a Pixie. :( Those things are surprisingly strong.

Just bought it, but not sure when I'll be on atm. It was easy w/ Minecraft, 'cause I could run it on Ubuntu (daily activity OS), when I had free time. However, to play Terraria, I've got to restart and boot into Windows, which I usually only do a for a couple hours at the end of the night for a few rounds of Battlefield.

Hopefully the Linux version will be viable/released soon.

OK, so based on your recommendations, I'll switch the 2 x 2TB drives and save a bit of money (and potential hassle w/ installations/moving games) by going w/ a 1TB drive for Origin (FYI, BF4 w/ all five DLC is 58GB, 20 more than BF3), Battle.NET and possibly UPlay games, and a 3TB for Steam games.

However, back on topic :P, given that it'll house just Windows, launchers and modding tools, and no games, should the SSD be 120 or 240?

Black Friday, is the Friday after the American Thanksgiving, and is considered the kick-off to the holiday shopping season (though coming pretty late this year it seems). It started years ago w/ retail stores giving insane and often time sensitive discounts on items that would create shopping frenzies, with ppl lining up the night before, and doing everything they can to be first into the store, occasionally w/ nasty results (youtube 'black friday mob' and black friday death count.)

Cyber Monday is the online counterpart, where online retailers offer similar discounts the following Monday, only w/o the craziness.

From what I've seen, for the $110 increase, I get 0.5GHz and HT, which games still don't take advantage of.

The problem with a single large SSD for the popular titles, is that with game installs getting bigger and bigger (BF4 for example, uses close to 50GB (guess with Final Stand out today)), it'll become increasingly necessary to move the installs around. There's also the cost factor, as large quality SSDs are pricey.

The RAID setup is for speed more than anything. Trying not to bottleneck the load times any more than necessary. I've got three tiers of builds over on PC Part Picker. The first two, the sensible builds, feature RAID 0 storage drives for speed, and back-ups would be on a NAS device. The third, the balls to the wall build, based on a video I saw that was a 'proof of concept'/'wtf is the industry coming to', uses RAID 10.

As for data security, I'm confident that the risk increase over a single drive is worth the performance jump.

in New Comp: 120 or 240 GB OS SSD Post #322360
I'm hoping to soon build a new rig, so I can finally upgrade from my current set-up:
-Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.0GHz
-nForce 750i SLi FTW
-4GB DDR2 800 2x2GB
-640GB 7200RPM
-GeForce GTX 285 1GB
I'm looking at a 'budget' (ha ha) build consisting of:
-Core i5-4690K @ 3.5GHz
-Z97i AC mITX
-8GB DDR3-1600 1x8GB
-OS SSD
-2 x 2TB 7200RPM in RAID 0
-GeForce GTX 970 4GB
This system will be used to only play games. My plan is to install Windows 7 (probably Windows 10) and the various game launchers (Steam, Origin, Battle.NET, odd etc.) on the SSD, and install the games on the RAID drives. I've not decided how I'll handle tools, like GIMP or Blender (or similar), should I start modding again. They'll either be on the OS drive or on a secondary Linux system, which would be my daily driver.

My only uncertainty now is the size of the SSD, and I wanted to get your opinions on it. Should I go with a 120/128GB or a 240/256GB SSD?
