in Help! Microsoft has handicapped me! Post #243059
Never had a problem with viruses in my life. No spyware either.
Using ZoneAlarm Pro and AVG Free. I doubt I'd need them though, all you really need is a spyware sweep sometimes (Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware being good anti-spyware choices).
I once formated my HDD, reinstalled XP and installed all the latest updates, and 30 minutes later I had shortcuts to porn sites on my desktop.
I didn't visit any other website than the Windows Update site.
Terrible fail. You suck.

in New motherboard Post #242958
On an old motherboard, they're likely both IDE connected. Newer boards come standard with SATA connectors (for HDD's, usually), but they also have IDE ports. Fewer though - my Mobo has 4 SATA connectors but only 1 IDE port, which makes connecting older HDD's a bit of a bother. It works though. I keep one DVD/CD drive and one IDE HDD connected through a single IDE cable. Makes for some odd positioning inside the computer though (my IDE HDD is lying unfastened ontop of the DVD drive :) ).

in New motherboard Post #242886
All CPU models need their own special motherboard socket, which is how you determine which mobos fit with which CPUs. Both AMD and Intel processors use a few different sockets.

Get a diagnostic program like CPU-Z to check your hardware. If you're gonna buy a new motherboard, consider getting a new processor too - you're likely to need one soon anyway.

If it's the cracked version of Fraps I'm thinking of, I think it needs to be placed in C:program files for some weird reason. At least, that's what I discerned from looking at the comments.

Hmm... after giving this whole thread a thorough review, I have come to the conclusion that the problem you are experiencing seems to be caused by the fact that you are perusing the operating system Vista. LOL!

in The Orange Box graphics card question Post #242016
It is, however, used as a tactic to sell crappy cards to people who don't know any better.
Much like plenty of gigahurtz isn't all that matters for a processor or plenty of megabytes isn't all that matters for RAM. Customers are dumb.

Switching to topdown mode should be as simple as placing a trigger_set_camera, selecting Topdown from the Camera Mode dropdown menu
Wat.
I must have an outdated FGD, because there's no such thing in my trigger_camera.

Edit: Indeed I was. Using the old hl2d.fgd instead of the spankin' flatlife.fgd. You win.

I agree with Penguinboy. A "free" crosshair is much better - makes it easier to aim at stuff far away, even though the bullets travel in a straight line.

Also, the trailer = WIN. "Kom Igen Kommissarien" is such a win song :) . Next time, add some 50 Hertz too.
What's the music used in the trailer? It's awesome.
Slagsmålsklubben - Kom Igen Kommisarien.

Further, in the manual;
You'll require Half-Life version 1110. (Steam recommended, WON largely untested!)
Steam Half-Life is a bit above 1.1.1.0, isn't it? 1.1.1.0 is the latest WON version.

Btw, how do you actually enable top-down view? It's not in the manual, and it's on in trigger_camera : . I mean, how do you switch between topdown/sideview?

The Discworld.

I've read The Colour of Magic and like part 19 in the series, I forget the name. One in English, one in Swedish. Enjoyed them thoroughly.

People who like muscle cars are compensating. They're also quite uneconomical. Further, stop referring to cars as either being from Europe or America. Europe isn't a country and Ferrari isn't an European brand, it's Italian. Get my drift (pun!)?

So using non-standard resolutions like 1366x768, 1200x1920, 1280x1024, 1440x900, and 1680x1050 is evil too?
Web designers don't have to worry about non-standard resolutions, so no. In fact, no designers do. So no, it's awright.

But that's interesting, how exactly does the trigger_once/multiple work? Do I just place it somewhere and when I walk into the space where it's located it triggers whatever I linked it to?
Yup. It's basically a big field, that when walked into triggers whatever you set it to. Trigger blocks are invisible in-game, usually textured with the aaatrigger texture.
I'm making my map and I noticed from the near beginning that it would always tell me WARNING and something in reference to the LeafThreads
Copy-pasta the whole compile log. I'm guessing you have some "Saw into leaf" errors or something.
And when I turn VIS off and let everything stay bright, the game goes super SLOW and lags a lot!
This is because the whole map is being rendered at the same time. Type gl_wireframe 2 (I think it is? Can't remember) in the console and check for yourself. VIS decides what should be rendered (i.e. what's visible to the player) and what shouldn't.

Usually means too many "triggerable" lights or too many lights with odd light styles (eg. flickering, strobing etc.).
