I'm not running any anti-virus or firewall, and even less Windows Update, at the moment. And if I suddenly got the urge to get anti-viral I certainly would not go to Microsoft for it. I guess you could say it's a trust issue.

Although I must say, Windows Update did let me get SP3 without even trying to install WGA, something I am grateful for.

Something tells me their rate of homicidal maniacs still isn't lower than over in other barbaric countries where wide-spread censorship isn't practiced as much. Meh, I'm not saying you should download only FLAC rips - but youtube quality really is terrible. At least go for 192Kbit MP3s (or equivalent). Shouldn't be too hard to track down.

What's with all the rockfaggotry in here? Unlike everyone else I'm going to recommend some music that's at least close to what Strike originally requested. World Crafter seems to be the only one who gets the idea.

You are right, socialism has nothing to do with privacy. That's because in socialist countries like China, North Korea, Cuba and a few others, there is very little or no privacy rights to speak of, so therefore "privacy" is not even an issue to talk about as far as socialism is concern.

Again, the economic theory does not deal with the issue at all. Hence: it has nothing to do with socialism. But yes, lets not get into that here

Just watched Fahrenheit 9/11 (for the second time) and although it brings up some interesting connections, it's far too sentimental and altogether hollywoodishly American in other places.

Who here has an opinion on the fact that the words "In God We Trust" is found printed on American currency?

I'd pick a combination of A and B. It's certainly offensive, due to the fact that it makes out the entire American population to be a homogeneously Christian people, despite the fact that there are huge minorities of all religious affiliations within the nation.

However, because the nation is founded on what was (at the time) Christian principles, it could be kept simply as a piece of memorability reminding people of the moral values of the original founders of the democracy. Most western nations, including mine, were founded on fundamentally Christian principles and I see no problem with acknowledging that fact in terms of official statements - whether it be text on money or commandments on the walls of courtrooms. It's not a problem, that is, as long as there's no obvious bias towards Christians or no discrimination of other religions. I believe in a strict separation of religion and state, but there's a difference between acknowledging a historical fact and adopting a state-religion merge.

So lower the brightness of the light_environment. The brightness is the last number in the colour field (eg. 255 0 0 255 means red with 255 brightness), if my memory serves correctly. Alternatively, drop the light_environment entirely and use only texlights where they are needed (for a truly pitch black outdoors map).

Fair enough, but is this not enough as far as solid evidence goes?:

The story itself is rather obviously just a rhetorical device written by someone trying to push their own view about the argument of evil. I must say, I hate these types of "stories" or examples, where one side is always incredibly dumb and gets owned badly in order to further an argument in a debate. These things appear on both sides of the debate but regardless of who authors them they always sound cheap and insulting. Why not just present the argument on its own instead, without the purely rhetoric story attached?

Which leads me back to my core point: this particular argument has no place in this thread. We're not discussing the existence of evil, we're debating the origin of life.

Meh, Tito. I've seen that story several times before without the added suggestion it was made by Albert Einstein. I seriously doubt he ever said anything like that. Especially considering Einstein wasn't even a Christian (nor an atheist).

Besides, the story doesn't really prove anything nor does it add any proper argument to the discussion. What's it saying? Evil is the absence of God? What does that have to do with the origin of life?

WCD seems to have the "Evolution is a fact"-corner pretty much filled up in this here thread so I'll just quietly agree and condone his attitude. Don't let the "evolution is just a theory"-people(it's not, in the common sense of the word) bring their pseudoscientific nonsense close to the real deal.

I'm not sure it was the most recent one but I remember starting an incredibly provocative thread a few years back. That was fun (albeit a bit silly on my part).
