in .AVI files as a texture in goldsource Post #287224
I know for a fact that its "possible" to have avi textures in half life, I even know that it involves something called avikit. But other than that, I'm completely lost.

I think muzzleflash (Mighty atom, sorry. I'll always know you as muzzleflash) accomplished this, so the thread is somewhat directed at him, but I wasn't sure.

And yes, I know it will certainly require coding. There just isn't much help on the internet for it, and I was hoping to get some help from someone who got it to work

I guess, basically, I just need to know if its possible, I set up hammer on my windows 7 machine and I've just been getting the most random errors that prevent me from compiling maps.

I know this is probably a shoutbox question, but if someone has actually gotten half-life mapping to work with windows 7, then this thread is going to get filled with a load of compile logs.

I don't see why not, some games have some really inconspicuous puzzles (im thinking of Jedi Knight 2 right now.) that required some pretty damn good observation and inferencing skills, all of which got better for the next puzzle I encountered.

Edit: Didn't realize you said puzzle games, not puzzles in games. There's a difference.

yeah exactly, an addiction is a personal choice, a fault of the addicted (or to be addicted) person, not of the object they're addicted to. Addictions can spring up in so many objects too, it'd be ridiculous to brand them all as problems.

I lied, I'll be good.

and actually, 2MVG's comment made me think, are video games really improving the way people live and work? Personally I think it makes certain people more intelligent, and other people really stupid, so in a way it sorta affects how we live. I dunno..

Because with his constant stabs at Bush, he strikes me as someone who jumped on the bush-hate bandwagon. I lash out the same to those who think bush was perfect because they shared the political party with him. Hell, I even get pissed when my dad says "How did we elect a <removed it cause I wasnt sure if it was bannable> into office?"

I never once said I was offended, a conservative, or that I DIDN'T meet president bush. (kidding on that last one)

So while I'm at it, you know what else is predictable? Someone assuming I'm a conservative because I made a comment that very very VERY REMOTELY defended bush.

Rim: Would answering yes to such a question hurt your chances of getting the job..? Haha

I dislike this just cause game designing used to be a rather uncommon career goal. (kind of.)

Now I'm going to have deal with all the MW2-players-turned-mapping-n00bs.

Another thing, if there's anything certain in this thread, its satchmo's unoriginal and VERY predictable stabs at president bush.

Anyway, Obamas still for net neutrality, and Mccain wouldve been too, so politicians just suck no matter how much they try to appeal to us.

For me, the gif is funny just because the squirrel got launched. If it was a gif of the squirrel hitting a tree and falling motionless to the ground, I'd be mortified. In fact, were I actually there, I probably would have STOPPED the person somehow.

For the same reason, if there was a cartoon where an animal got catapulted, I would laugh, and I would continue to laugh after it hit an object, because in a cartoon, it would get up and dust itself off.

Its the agony felt by the animal that makes it unfunny. And if you think an animal in pain is funny, go jump off a bridge now.

Also: NEDM.

For those firefox users out there, this addon will let you change the colors. I tested it personally and I was able to perfectly reproduce Urby's little color-scheme. (In fact, I'm now running it as my default TWHL appearance.)

You have complete control over the colors, so another possibility is the opposing force green. I don't like green though.

Interestingly enough, the local super wal-mart has the shittiest game selection I've ever seen.

Not similar to steam at all.

Edit: and another thing, I wouldn't call distribution a part of the "creative process" and I definitely wouldn't say the whole idea of steam suppresses creativity. Its possible for game developers to distribute their own content digitally, without whoring themselves out to a publisher. Doesn't that encourage more thought on the game itself? =/

The problem with trying to make keypads using entities in hammer is, I believe, the fact that you can't make it so a certain SEQUENCE of buttons pressed opens a door, IE: to open a door with code 1234, you would have to type in 1-2-3-4, no other order.

But with the hammer entities, it winds up so that you can put in the numbers in any order, so long as they match the numbers in the code. IE: 1243, 3214, and so on.

At least that's the problem I'VE had when trying to do it, full keypad functionality just isn't possible with the standard entities.

So joe, in your most recent post, the last two screenies look really empty and boring in contrast with the first two, are you planning something to go in that room?

Uh...most modern games are at LEAST 8 gb or so? Off the top of my head, Dead Space is 9GB, Modern Warfare 2 is 20GB, Dragon Age is pretty close to MW2, Hell, my downloads folder is more than 5 GB. What's stupid and ridiculous is accusing a 5GB game of being stupid and ridiculous.

Sorry for the inflammatory tone, but...this is stupid and ridiculous.

the latest ATI drivers (ever since the 10_2 update) have all supported hammer 3-D selections without the add-on dll. But anyway, my gut tells me its not a graphics card issue, and maybe an issue with windows 7, but I don't have 7 so I don't really know.

in New Mod: Half Life: Alien Killer Post #283442
The key to getting a successful mod team together is having work to show first, something to get people interested in the project. (Did you read the link I posted?) Get a solid storyline together, some concept (map layouts, maybe?) and maybe even map out some of the levels, and post some screenshots. And then after all that, we need to know exactly what positions you need filled.

Look at this, follow the guidelines and post with a better overview of your mod.

Also, posting links in the shoutbox to posts you've just made to try and advertise them is typically frowned upon, I believe. Only do that if the thread hasn't caught any attention in a while.
