Yep, Billy Mays's death has been confirmed pretty much everywhere else now. Already his wiki page has been updated to reflect is death: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Mays

Man, three famous personalities have passed away since this past June 25th, Farrah Fawcett, Michael Jackson and now Billy Mays. I wonder who's next....

@The_(c)Striker: Have you ever seen any of those Michael Jackson look-alikes or impersonators? Sometimes they even have some pretty big festivals out of them. Anyway, here's the Michael Jackson page of an agency that specializes in celebrity look-alikes: http://www.splitting-images.com/michael_jackson.html

Who knows, instead of using a statue of him, maybe they might use one of these look-alikes...

I just read on Yahoo! news page that Michael Jackson left a combined debt of over $400,000,000! (four hundred million) He spent a lot more than what he took in, and believe me, he took in a whole lot! The opulence of his lifestyle was legendary, even by your average rich person's standards. The real fun will start soon when they start fighting over his "estate assets".

Apparently Michael Jackson was hard at work recording a new album and producing a few videos for these past few months, or at least that's what I keep hearing on the news now. But the really big thing that's coming out now, is that he had already lined up a big concert tour spanning the U.S. and the U.K., but the incredible part about all this, most of the concert venues were at near sold out levels! Yep, it sure sounds like a big come back was being engineered for it to start at the end of this year.

in Planet TWHL! Post #268799
I think I will go ahead a add a little something to this project, even though it is a bit late in the game. But I will be doing it in a different way, I will take this same map with everything in it so far, and lay it out in full 3D. Imagine walking over a floor with this same Planet TWHL map spread out on the floor, giving you a full 3D view of the world map as you walk over it! It will be pretty much like this:
User posted image
Confused? Don't be, it's simple: I just simply converted the Planet TWHL map as a "giant floor map" and put it in an online 3D world where you can walk right over it and look at it from a unque perspective. This 3D world is rendered through a full screen Java applet. It does not matter which web browser you have, as long as your PC has Java enabled.

Before you click on the bottom link to enter in 3D, please read the following:

Once you load up the 3D Java applet, you will be prompted with a user login popup box. If you don't want to enter in chat mode with an avatar in front of you, then just close the popup box by clicking on the "X". If you want to try out the chat mode with the avatar, then for now click on "I'm a male guest". Then for the avatar's name, just put your own. Skip the password box, don't put anything there. Now go ahead and click on "Log in".

Use the keyboard arrows to walk around, and to look around, press and hold the right mouse button while dragging the mouse.

Well, if you are ready, check out Planet TWHL map in Java web-3D: http://www.3dxplorer.com/view.php?k=MzE4OQ==

NOTE: The scene will take about 1 to 2 minutes load up, so give it some time.

Yes, I read a bit about Khadijah's story from a blog somewhere which I can't remember now. There's even talk that they might make a TV movie based on here life story. Hey satchmo, about what you said not having any excuse not being able to do it, well I can think of one very big reason: Harvard's tuition fees! Unlike Khadijah's special case, not everybody is lucky enough to receive the massive financial help needed to go to this kind of prestigious school. And then there's the academic part of it - not everybody has the intellectual brain power like our good girl Khadijah has to even be noticed, much less accepted to Harvard. But I do accept that there is no excuse to at least not try to go to another, less prestigious and hyper expensive school, there just isn't.

A friend of mine send me this one strange picture to my cell phone last night with some instructions on how to see it. Well, after following the instructions on how to see this picture, I freaked-out for a second, but just momentarily. Afterwards, I just started to laugh at the whole thing, it's just a silly trick of the eyes.

Here's the picture:
User posted image
Now, follow these instructions carefully:

1.Relax and concentrate on the 4 small dots in the middle of the picture for approximately 30 seconds.

2.Take a look at a wall near you (or any smooth, single colored surface).

3.You will see a circle of light developing.

4.Start blinking your eyes a couple of times and you will see a figure emerging...

5.What do you see? Moreover, who do you see?

I once visited Outback Steakhouse when I used to live in Pennsylvania, U.S. The quality of the food was okay, nothing spectacular. The only gripe I have about them was the table service, the waitress took forever to give me my check so I could pay. And I do agree with TheGrimReafer, they were somewhat expensive, and I think their food portions were too small for amount they charge. If you ask me, Applebee's is a better alternative.

You are in the right track if you say you are doing weekly scans, so that's a good thing. But remember, for the scans to have maximum effectiveness, the ant-virus program's definitions also need to be updated on a regular basis, usually the program itself would do this automatically if you let it.

Well, if push comes to shove, there's always formatting the hard drive and doing a clean Windows install, which sadly enough is the only method in the world guaranteed to remove even the so called "irremovable infections".

All I can say is be prepared for the possibility of some kind of virus or malware infection. By the sound of things, you might have something running in the background interfering with your online connection. Have you run a security system scan of your PC yet? If not, you should, just in case.

in Create Game Engine from Scratch! Post #268010
Just read the first whole page of the series, and I must say, it is very interesting, a real eye opener. Now, it is a lot of reading, so I will go ahead and bookmark it for a later reading. The idea of creating your own game engine from scratch is a very tall order, but not completely out of the question, since some of today's technical schools or collages that offer 2 to 4 year degrees in game design/programming/modeling require that upon completion of your course, you will have already created from scratch your own game engine, with a working game implementation. One school in particular that require this kind of commitment out of their students, is Devry University. I once visited their Philadelphia PA campus about 5 years ago, and I must say, their game programming curriculum is incredible! There are a few other excellent schools that specialize in game programming out there, you just have to know where to find them.

The way it looks so far, perhaps Google. But That's not necessarily a good thing for Google in the long run, since if they keep getting more dominant on each of the major internet markets (search, advertising, email and so on...) and it looks like they will have a monopoly on some of them, they will get an unwelcome notice by the U.S. Congress, which by the way, has the power to break up the company in to smaller independent units, pretty much the same way when they striped the mighty AT&T out of their land lines and local telephone business back in the 1980's, thus giving birth to the regional "baby bells", which one of them later on became Verizon. In fact, Senator Joe Lieberman once threatened Google with a congressional inquiry that could have lead to Google being broken in to two separate companies.

This is what happens when kraken uses sarcasm incorrectly.
Either way, it does not matter if he was using sarcasm or not, I have heard the same thing he said a bunch of times on other gaming forums by other people. As much as some will hate to admit, the Halo series is and will still be a viable franchise for the foreseeable future, after all, it is one of Microsoft's most important cash cows.
They had more than 90% market share at one point...until Microsoft invaded their business.

They're both dead now.
And don't forget, when AOL took control of Netscape way back when, a few years later, AOL bit the dust also, and at one time, they were the biggest ISP and search engine in the world.

I just want to get my hands on halo 4.
I don't know about Halo 4, but there is Halo 3: ODST which is a standalone expansion for Halo 3 coming in the fall 2009.

Just heard that the new "Halo: Reach" has been confirmed by Microsoft not be another RTS, but instead a FPS. This is supposed to be some kind of prequel that takes place before the events of Halo 1. This game ships sometime next year.

If Microsoft ever (key word here being "ever") has plans for a Halo 4, I think they most likely will reserved it for the eventual next generation console that comes along after the Xbox360. In the meantime, they will just milk the hell out of Halo 3 with more expansions and perhaps,....a Halo Wars 2, but that's just a maybe.

I keep hearing about Microsoft not mentioning anything concrete about their in house Xbox360 stuff so far. Speculation by some people is that they don't have much to show this year, while others are saying that the big M is just saving the best for last with a barrage of last minute shockers.

As for Nintendo, they don't seem to concerned with E3, and with good reason, they don't need to, they already have this console generation in their back pocket so to speak.

As for Sony, the one thing above anything else that people are going to be looking from them to say, is a nice price drop on the PS3, it's either that or keep loosing market share.

There are games with endless worlds. The content is generated randomly.
Right. But that's not the case with this Fuel racing game. The key here is, quote: "accessible, in-game terrain". What this means is, every square inch of the 5,500 square miles is actually explore able, no random generation of any kind.
Each team has a bus full of hooligans and the point is to jump from bus to bus and fight/sabotage each other. First to the goal wins.
That's sort of like Road Rash, but instead of using motorcycles, buses are used! Radical....
burnout and trackmania are awesome. you can't possibly say every racing game is shit.

I bet the quality of the maps will suck hard. After all, it's a racing game.
I suppose you never heard of Grand Turismo or Project Gotham Racing, two racing games that got multiple awards for level design and awesome graphics. The genre of the game has nothing to do with it's quality. It's who makes the games, and how good the creators are, period. Anyway, I suspect that since a video game has landed in the book of Guinness World Records for being the largest, the current "graphics competition" among developers will take a back seat to a new "map size competition". The Guinness book has the reputation of bringing out all the crazies out in the open every once in a while.

Sure He,He,...Will Hammer be able to handle a map like that without crashing? Anyway, I think this is where cloud computing comes in, unless of course somebody here happens to have one of those IBM mainframe super computers.
but the only thing you can do in them is drive around.
Not all racing games are like that. Example: In the Need For Speed series, there's the cop chase mode, where you need to evade capture by the cops before you finish the race. My favorite are the earlier Rush games, where you have the option to take short cuts that lead to insane high jumps. On Rush 2049, there's a stunt mode set in a special stunt arena, and a deathmatch mode similar to the Twisted Metal games. Man I love this game, I have the Dreamcast version for it. One racing game I wish they brought back to the next gen systems, is Road Rash. I was really addicted to that game.

Again, my fault and my apologies.
I pointed this out when Tito started actively posting, and I was shot down. Fuck you guys.
"Fuck you guys"?...That kind of broad bitterness to all is not good. As far as I know, I only did this once without posting a link back to the story's source by accident. Now, could some of my other threads should have been posted instead on the journal section? Perhaps, but then again, I think most of my threads so far are kind of in the "gray area", meaning they could go either way. Now, to be on the safe side from now on, I will refrain from doing any more of my unconventional threads on the forum, and if I do one, it will go on my journal.

What's the biggest game ever? According to Guinness World Records, it's upcoming racing game Fuel, which boasts a record-breaking 5,500 square miles of accessible, in-game terrain.
User posted image
That's larger than many perfectly good countries, including Jamaica, The Gambia, and Lebanon. It'll take you three hours to drive from one side to the other, and on your way you'll pass through 19 different environmental regions offering terrain types as diverse as deserts, rivers, forests and mountains. The record was officially confirmed at the London offices of Guinness earlier this week.

It's also larger than enormous games like Fallout 3 (which replicates much of Washington, D.C. and its surrounding area), fantasy worlds like those of World of Warcraft and Oblivion, and the vast metropolises of the Grand Theft Auto series.

"We knew FUEL was going to be big," said the game's producer Phil Wright, of Codemasters, "but to have this confirmed officially by Guinness World Records justifies our faith in this ground-breaking title. No other game comes close to offering the variety of environments, the range of vehicles or the sheer size of FUEL. It?s one of the most innovative racers ever, and we?re thrilled it?s been recognized as the biggest console game of all time."

Yep, not only is America's Army video game still being used as a recruiting tool by the U.S. Army, but it actually works really well in recruiting. Also, the U.S. Army has just finished completing a billion dollar plus network of virtual reality type combat simulators linking hundreds and sometimes thousands of soldiers at once!
