Now that you've applied the textures to an actual map I say they actually look pretty realistic, still slightly artistically driven but look great ingame.

The thumb looks like source, Instant. Very smooth.

Not bad.

Great job, Instant! If you went this far, I suggest you go even crazier and indent the textures with brushwork. Errm...does that make sense to anyone?
Posted 12 years ago2011-08-17 11:49:28 UTC Post #298107
That's great, Instant! I hope that you didn't actually hit the brush limit, I want to play that!

some may be pictures I posted before, I cant remember, but whatever, this is where I am now.

Known criticism, the hallway in the first pic is too dark, and there's that empty space in picture 2. I'm getting frustrated trying to make the black mesa trucks out of brushes, and the prefab I downloaded (lol.) gives me compile errors, so Ill figure out something eventually.
Posted 12 years ago2011-08-17 18:18:22 UTC Post #298119
Really reminds me of Deus Ex ATDestroy , nice work.

Fuck me , I've no idea how i'm going to make stairs that work with that architecture style. Everything is off grid when I rotate it!

@Dexter - there's no way i'm 'indenting' it , not only would that make everything practically off-grid but it'd be a complete waste of resources and time. Looks pretty good as it is right now

Yeah, but then the stairs don't always align to each other correctly.
ATDestroy: Very nice, great texture set as well. I think I see some submerged.wad in there, but unless I am mistaken, you have some personally created textures in there too, yes?

@ATD: Hallway is dark, warehouse is too dark, and outdoor screenshot is either way too fucking dark or has the wrong sky.

Nightwatch/Submerged. To answer Jeff/Urby.

And yeah Stu, fair criticism for sure on all points, but I have no idea how to do the outdoor area correctly, I've redone the lighting 3 times and I cant seem to find something that works well. I'm TRYING to go for a morning time frame.

Any suggestions?

Not bad. Try making the walls a bit more dirty compared to the dirty concrete columns. Try changing the blue on the door to some other color like yellow.
Posted 12 years ago2011-08-19 16:28:48 UTC Post #298178
Infact the opposite dragos , the dirty crete columns were only temporary and I need to make them clean , rather than dirty.

The door spans a bunch of colours which represent a sort of "security level". throughout the levels the players will gradually unlock the levels , giving them access to new areas and areas such as weapon storage and med bays.

Then make the texture for those columns already curved, exactly the shape of the column brush.

Since many of you have taken notice that I've been here for over 3 years and haven't done jack shit for mapping, I've been polishing something up over the course of a couple months [Which really means work on it for a day then don't touch it for three months then work on it for another day and repeat], so here it is, still incomplete and in dire need of retouching, but it's polished enough to at least show as a WIP.

No but really though I started this months ago and haven't touched it until this evening, at which point I started into a epic rage burst of 5 hours of no-sleep mapping, right now it's 4:30 AM and I should probably be sleeping right now but for some reason am not.

He only used one default HL texture. So, it doesn't give it away too much.

You can see at least seven HL textures in that shot

The hud is dif. than mine. And I assumed it was gold but just said because its good enough to look like source.

And still can't rec. gold? I map a lot for it lol and know what gold looks like. This just looked better. And i'm not too familiar with source so I wouldn't know what to look for.
Posted 12 years ago2011-08-22 01:03:15 UTC Post #298280
I decided I would model something that one day I would try and get working in Half Life, in the hopes that if I ever attempted to make a mod I would at least have learned how to complete custom weapon models. So I made an M4A1, with a Grenadier variant. I made an M16A4 as well, because why not.

After this, I will try and do a few models that could be used as world models. College is going to start soon, so for a few weeks I'm going to try and live cheaply so I can save up for a hard drive and free up some space. Then I'll try and get Photoshop and 3DS Max and such, so I can texture my models and stuff. Next stop after that, learning to code!

If you ever, ever make another model with hopes of getting it into a game engine using that abomination of a program I will gouge your fucking eyes out TJB. Seriously, use XSI, 3DS Max, Maya, BLENDER, anything else other then that program. No offense but when Joebama gave me that MP5 to work with it was completely unusable, Sketchup is NOT a modelling package.

With that said, It looks pretty good.

Joebama, if you want I can show you 7 HL textures in that shot.

TJB: Great work! (but useless)

zeeba-G: I meant recognizing it at least by textures, in that shot you can see 7 8 HL textures.

Instant Mix: Correct isn't it?

BTW: Joebama, you fail.

Dragos, please do something better than worry about this! Many of the textures are very shrunken and make them look like hl2. And it is possible to use hl1 textures in hl2. And 4,5,6 and 8 could not be hl1 textures judging from the screenshot though they probably are.
Posted 12 years ago2011-08-22 09:07:26 UTC Post #298288
