Saw that Metro 2033 was on sale for five bucks so I decided to give it a go. I've not gotten very far, but there were some pretty harrowing moments so far already. It's really too bad that they continuously kill the immersion, I wish they had gone the Half-life/Amnesia route and not taken any jumps in the story because otherwise the world feels very authentic and deep. Also the depth of field is sickeningly low, and the game seems to reset it's configuration files every time you launch it. Shame, shame!

I actually bought Metro 2033 about a year ago and never even installed it. I probably won't be able to get round to playing it unless I buy a new hard drive to free up some space. As of this moment I've only got about 3GB.

I was really impressed by a lot of Metro 2033. Got it on the sale as well.

Visually it's very, very nice at times but I totally agree about the immersion-breaking loading screens and "time passes..." copout.
Combat leaves quite a lot to be desired as well, but the atmosphere of the world is palpable.

In other news: F1 2011 is the best motor racing game I've ever played. Period. And I've played a lot of racing games.

Loved Metro 2033. I thought the combat was suitably rugged and challenging. It really feels like all your (and the enemies) weapons are just barely held together, making for a brutal, tooth and nail sort of affair. Those library creatures too... oh my god. Can't wait for the sequel.

Most recent game I've played is STALKER. I can't believe I got this game so wrong the first time I played it. The gunplay probably turns most people away, but once you start building up a decent arsenal, and gather some artifacts, you're treated to one of the most deep, dangerous and atmospheric RPGs ever. Very unlike typical western RPG games, and sadly buggy as hell. Some mods help, but it still needed a more complete build. Quite sad that GSC Game World has shut it's doors.

So true! By the end of it, I was completely out of ammo, only had like 2 throwing knives remaining, as well as 2 filters. They've gotten the supply balance so right in that game - it's unbelievable.

Can't wait for Last Light either. Oh, and throwing knives are your friend when it comes to the library mutants. Same applies to demons, actually. I think it took three throws to finish off the TV Tower demon in the end, thank fuck for that. Was completely out of ammo. D:

Can't wait for Last Light.

Also, can't believe they're shutting CSG down. The STALKER franchise had a cult following in eastern Europe, spawning a TV series, conventions, etc. And the games were brilliant, too. Such a shame it all came down to a console publishing deal going nowhere. :<

I was so short on ammo in one segment that I had to resort to throwing knives against some of those little mole rat lurkers that hide in burrows. Got slaughtered a few times, but damn it felt good once I nailed them all. I think they were my favourite weapon during the stealthier segments.

I hope Game World find a way to continue the STALKER IP, but I'm lucky I still have the last two games to get through. I also got a quick shop in at GSC's online store before they run out of stock. Looking forward to my STALKER patches. :>

I picked up Anomaly on steam the other day real cheap and wow. I don't usually play RTS-type games but this one is really good. It's kind of a reverse tower-defence game where you build your convoy and direct them along the roads through various areas, taking out the alien towers.

You control your commander, running around picking up suit equipment that you can use to bolster your convoy or hinder the enemy. It plays really well and it looks great. Been a while since I've gotten into a game like this.

I just finished Dear Esther. Totally blown away by the narrative, the visuals and the sound design. I almost cried at the underwater bit (to avoid spoilers). If you've played it, you'll know where I mean.

Holy fucking emotional journey, batman.

So why is it a shame that the devs get money for their incredible work?

I think it's great. The game paid for itself in under 6 hours of going live.

Been Playing Orcs Must Die! for a while now, and for how simple the game is i don't understand why it has such high replayability for me. "Nightmare mode" is very challenging, and any other game i would have quit by now out of frustration, but something about this game makes you keep coming back.

Anyone else play this and/or Dungeon Defenders?

I just finished playing Dear Esther.

I have played nothing like it before. In fact, I cannot even imagine myself conceiving such a game until I played it.

It's stunning, poetic, and melancholic. It sits on the heart like an abandoned heirloom, precious, hopeless.

I don't know whether I can call it gaming, but it's an experience I cannot forget.

Too bad though, because my game for this month is Final Fantasy XIII-2. Just started it today. On the handheld side of things, I got Resident Evil: Revelations on the 3DS, planning to start it next week sometime.

I've enjoyed it so far, but what makes it a fun experience for me is getting a chance to play an oldschool mindless pure run & gun type of shooter for a change. Brought up a fair deal of Quake/Doom nostalgia.

I couldn't tell if it's a good remake or not though. I've only played the first one briefly ages ago.
