So FULL MAP is one map only and not a mod?

Any custom content should be included with the entry in the correct folder structure, or embedded into the BSP file itself. A mini-mod package is also permitted.
If you want to make a mod, go ahead.

Awesome, exactly when I go on a vacation and don't get to use a PC :D
Kinda sucks because I actually tried creating several floating island maps during this year and it never worked.

This is a nice competition. But only one judge?
Man, if this compo has 2 months it means it ends right before my exams session.

This could be interesting. I've already got a lovely theme in my head. As the "mini mod" is permitted, does this mean we can submit more than one map?

Ok Grim, I shalt participate, I'll use some left overs from a project I scrapped a few months back, since I'll only have half the time available. I don't plan on putting too much work into this though.

I is IN!!! :D

EDIT: Suspended in the air by force...

Wha??? Is it supposed to be movable/physics? 0.o Or can we build it in mid air because I have NO idea how to make land move... -.-

The island itself doesnt need to move, what he means is that it floats in the air.
So no physics or anything, just make a map the way you normally would.

THIS! is going to be a good turnout, I just know it. Floating island is like the most cliche yet awesome scheme for a video game!

Tatu Eugen from Gamebanana did this sort of map for the Twisted Reality contest, and it is for cs:go

Go find him on GB and find that map of his (I cant remember what it was called...), it might give u some inspiration :)

I think I wont be entering this one since Im quittin' modding, but I have a whole lot of ideas for this sort of thing. Maybe I change my mind, but nothing is certain. This actually reminds me of Bioshock Infinite, so go check it out if u haven't allready.

Anyways, Good Luck!

I was thinking the same thing Captain. It would be cool to work together with someone, it's crazy the amount of thinking I put into my entries and couldn't imagine the depth I could go in with someone elses brain present.

I'll pm you some ideas and stuff that i've gathered so far just for fun even if we do our own thing.

As Rufee said, the map just needs to be floating; no physics involved.
Captain Terror + Zeeba-G: Any possibility to allow team/studio entries for this?
It could be unfair to the others because a combination entry could theoretically have twice the polish. I personally don't have a problem with it, but I have to say no just in case. I could be persuaded to change my mind if several people decide to do combination entries.
hlife_hotdog: I just had my idea hit me, but it'll be a multi-level entry...shit...
There's nothing against that in the rules. Go for it if you have the willpower to finish!

Hi TheGrimReafer, is it okay to use CS:GO?

This will be my first competition, so I wondered if there were other competitions (maybe on other sites), and where can I find previous competition winner entries to benchmark what is expected?

Thanks!
Posted 11 years ago2012-12-11 03:28:00 UTC Post #311482
You should probably read and look around a "tiny miniscule" amount before asking questions.

Also sometimes gamebanana holds competitions but I think for multiple games. This is a good competition for only goldsource and source engine games.
Posted 11 years ago2012-12-11 05:39:27 UTC Post #311485
sm0k3y: the rules say any source or goldsource-based game, so i'm guessing that includes csgo :)

Gamebanana contests are pretty crazy, as you can submit a map for ANY game, so e.g., if you wanted to make a map a gameboy advance or dos, or whatever, they will accept it. (this said, i've never seen an entry yet over there that wasn't source/gs based yet)

Okay TheGrimReafer,

could we Goldsource Guys use Spirit of Halflife/ Trinity Renders to make things a little more intresting ?

I mean source engine has physiks.... and shit so atleast let us use advanced stuff...

I´m totally in and started allready so plz allow us that :) <3

Yeah, the thing is I'll be churning out more maps in the next two months than I have in the last two years...

I think I jumped straight from park into fifth gear, or at least I better do... Time to crank up the Billy Talent

Rim's been taking a backseat lately for the compos, to give the rest of us a fair chance =P

not to mention he could have taken down both MOS modeling contests without breaking a sweat..

Rim: do you participate in any contests at polycount?

Grim I've got a question,
Your task is to create a map located on a floating chunk of land. You can make anything as long as the map is suspended in mid-air.
Does the map literally need a piece of land inside it, or can it be a structure floating in air? I mean it wouldn't be an island if it had no land on it, so I want to know if I need to include land into it, or if I can simply make a floating structure without adding the land.
