They're also real dark. Might want to crank the brightness up a little. (Keep different gamma levels in mind.)

Even on my phone, it looks decently lit :)

Also, does anyone have ideas about my issue here, with disappearing func_illusionaries?

Well, this will do the trick:

-texreflectscale 1.28
-bounce 9
-blur 1.33 (for the lolz)

Hehe, I normally set texreflectscale to 0.9, but if I need more light, I will get more light!

I can't conveniently take a photo of that, because of obvious reasons, but this is as accurate as I could get.

Otherwise, take a look at this:

Hmm, maybe I tweaked my laptop's display settings :P
See, I normally increase the contrast, and then add a bit of brightness, when it comes to that. My monitor settings (and in-game) are definitely different than yours, so...

Edit: (11:49pm)
I've noticed 1 thing in particular. TWHL's colour scheme is very bright with little contrast.
Contradictory, my screenshots are somewhat dark. Try viewing the screenshots in full-screen mode, or just zoom in, so your eyes can adjust to the darkness.

I've actually experienced that IRL multiple times =P
I got this idea an hour ago when I got out of my room (and it's night a.t.m.) and it was very dark. I still saw everything.
I went to the bathroom, turned on the lights [...] and then came out, 30 minutes later. I couldn't see anything after switching off the lights!

I stood in the hall for 1 minute, and shortly, I saw the walls again, then the carpet on the floor and so on.
But meh, this probably won't work with this exact scenario =(

For saint pixel... use a modelling program Admer!!, if you can do that with brushes I´m sure you can do a superb moto on Milkshape or Blender!!

Good work!! :)

How would you move that model if it's supposed to be a "func_vehicle" ?
Posted 7 years ago2017-02-02 08:10:49 UTC Post #333295
Mmmm, I thought that you can target a model to make it move with func_vehicles, I mean, for example: Moto´s targetname: "moto", and in the target field of the func_vehicle you must put "moto". Something similar to breakables and cyclers (counter-strike´s chicken on cs_italy). :) But on that case I remember that it uses also a roundereset entity to make the chicken re-appear. :/

But my laptop doesn't meet the sys. req. for Blender. I can't get used to Milkshape's controls, too. So, I'll use 3ds Max.
And, hell no, I can't make a better motorbike in a modelling program, because I simply don't have enough experience in the design process.

@Instant Mix
Well, I'll see about that. I could cut out a cylinder, and cut it into sections, and then do the curves :)

Cool!! :glad: , you can do it savig the file as 3ds or obj, ages ago I have studied the 3ds files for the hgrunt included into the HLSDK v2.3.

3DSMax is 100 times more difficult to use than MS3D, BTW...

You can import 3DSMax files into MS3D, then compile the model (it´s waaaaaaay basic) and use it as a prop in your maps!. :crowbar:

Well, when I first started Milkshape, I had no idea how to use it.
3 months later, when I was determined to make a model, I found a tutorial on TWHL, for 3ds Max.

Now, I don't have time to learn the basic controls of other programs because of school :P

Seriously, do I look like I care? My avatar says it all.

3ds Max is quite superior to Milkshape, but thanks for mentioning the 3ds Max -> Milkshape part =)
Max needs plugins to export and import SMDs, while Milkshape supports it natively. Good idea =D

I don't know, Max just seems so über and epic compared to some stuff. Of course, I'd love to install Blender, but my iGPU doesn't support OpenGL 2.1. I wish Blender was in DirectX 9 or 10.

If you can't run Blender, you'll probably have a hard time running max as well. I don't think there are GPUs, even integrated ones, that support DX9 but not an equivalent version number of OpenGL, unless there's some really weird 'microsoft-only' deals going on.

My laptop has an Intel HD Graphics 2XXX and I managed to play Wolfenstein The New Order with it, the game used OpenGL 4.4. I also managed to play Killing Floor 2 but in DirectX 10.1 mode instead of the default DirectX 11. I couldn't play DOOM 2016 (OpenGL 4.3) with it due to a missing OpenGL ARB extension support from my drivers.

Blender 2.76a requires OpenGL 1.4 which was released in 2002 (2 years before HL2). OpenGL 2.1 was released in 2006 so you should be able to run Blender 2.76a and below.

I highly recommend you check for GPU drivers update and I join the same advice of JeffMOD, if you have trouble with the latest version of Blender, you will have a hard time with 3ds Max (even Maya).

Returning to the 3D model´s editor, even if it will look a bit bulky, MS3D is good for begginers and is very easy to learn, and, most important, works on a 17 year old Athlon with 396 MB Ram anda Voodoo3 2000 with 16 MB (yes MB) of GPU RAM... ;)

Oh, and if you are so desperate, I can give it a try, the only thing I can not do is UV map it, not for a lack of will but for a lack of time, UV mapping is the worst part of modelling!!, well, UV mapping and sometimes animating (I hate you Hand of God!!!).

I'll see what I can do about Blender and Milkshape, and they're probably small, too. I have 3.96 GB left on my only HDD, so it should install those easily.

About Blender, I will find an older version, as with everything I install :)
E.g. I don't have the latest Sony Vegas, but I have Sony Vegas 11 etc.
if you have trouble with the latest version of Blender, you will have a hard time with 3ds Max (even Maya).
I have no problems with 3ds Max 6 and Max 9. As for Max 2017, for example, I doubt it would launch xD

If I had to go back and choose what my first 3D modelling application was, it would've been blender. The interface was designed by a sadist, but it's much easier to go from blender to 3Ds max than vice versa.
It's also nice to have a free, open source 3d package that you can painlessly upgrade, alter for your own purposes and receive support for indefinitely so long as you upgrade every once in a while. Not so easy with a closed-source, pirated copy of 3DS Max.

In your case, before 3ds max 2010 or so I believe is going to be missing some functionality that's going to make simple 3D operations quite convoluted and frustrating at times. IMO anything after is too bloated even on a good machine, so go with blender.
You have to remember that 3DS Max is not just designed to be a 3D asset creation tool, but a production-level, 3D toolset for professionals in many industries. It's going to have a lot of tools you will never use, along with a lot of bloat.

Well, I agree with that. I use maybe 20 or more commands/tools (Bevel, Extrude, Boolean, Connect, Tessellate etc.). But also, never say never =)
I might use 3DS Max once for green screen stuff :D
In your case, before 3ds max 2010 or so I believe is going to be missing some functionality
I'd gladly make use of newer programs, but my darn limited hardware doesn't allow me to.

I'm just partially incompatible with you people because I have bottom-end hardware. Because of that, I'll not fit into certain communities.

People have the latest software, I have the older software. You obviously see the problem there.
People have the latest hardware, I have the old (perhaps among the oldest) hardware. Again, you see the problem.

It will always be like that until I build an actual PC, so please, stop telling me to get newer programs, just stop, because I can't.

It looks like it was made with Milkshape, which:
"works on a 17 year old Athlon with 396 MB Ram anda Voodoo3 2000 with 16 MB (yes MB) of GPU RAM..."
I had an SVGA card PC once. It couldn't even run 2D games properly. I doubt it's any better even than a Voodoo 2.
The period was between the death of my PC (R.I.P 2009-2014) and the coming of my laptop (2007-still alive).

Then I couldn't play any games whatsoever, but I survived somehow. The period lasted from 10 days to a month, I think. Or was it the period before I bought the new laptop (which was adopted by my brother)? I don't know :P

Even though I got something better than that PC with an SVGA card, it's still not good enough. I'll build an actual PC in summer (hopefully) and then I'll be making big maps, big time! >:D

I will definitely wait, I have lots of patience :)

When I finish 9th grade, it will be a big breakthrough, so I must celebrate it somehow: by building this thing. (it's adjusted to locally available parts)

As a low-spec bottom-spec gamer, I will not leave elementary school, without having built a PC. I must build that PC before high school! :D
I will name it "Iron Wolf".

Also, my cousins from the USA are coming in summer (after 6 long years :D), so it will be an epic wombo combo for me. The best summer in my life.
Every kid in the village will come to my house and celebrate the new PC. There are only 3 kids other than me here, lol. But with my cousins, there will be 6. With me, that number is 7. Oh screw it, I'll call the entire town nearby to celebrate! Just kidding XD

So, this will be a big thing, perhaps one of the biggest in my life. I can't wait. For now, I'll just study and get good grades :)

I don´t think you´ll find those PC Masters round here, if so, tell them to send to you the second-hand components they don´t like and you will build a good PC for sure... A GT 740 is good for what I do :D
But not good enough for my future doings, though. That's why I'm going for the RX 460.

But a 3500 GTX? What the hell is that? Unless you meant GTX 1080 (which I'll never have by the way, just never, it's too expensive).

And, you seriously can't see the individual pixels? I can see the black grid between them, especially on the white and green pixels. I'd zoom in more, but my camera isn't a microscope xD
Hey! I actually did that once. I put a microscope on my phone's screen and I saw RGB sub-pixels :D

Now, back on topic:
I'm testing Sven Co-op's capability of huge map support. I'll be making a 8192^3 map, then a 16384^3 map. I hope it compiles XD
My initial map is made out of 2048 triangles, and believe me, the shadows look so cool on it (shadows by terrain).

Exageration, plain simple ;), I mean that those guys are capable of buying a 600€ gpu and the next month buy another of 1000€ just because it gets "outdated" (those high end pcs ended in the second hand market).

I did see a extrange amount of lighter greenish pixels surrounding the "2" number, but It can also be a camera backside effect. ;)

Be sure to use vis blockers if not r speeds will skyrocket...
Posted 7 years ago2017-02-06 20:40:09 UTC Post #333368
No, it is NOT a camera effect. It is my monitor. I swear, I can see individual pixels on my monitor, and measure their dimensions.
Look again:

Focus on the number 2. Zoom in in your browser if you need. As you can see, it is made out of green dots, on a black grid. Those green dots are the green sub-pixels, and the red and blue ones are turned off :)
Get it? RGB pixels.

After all, the native resolution is 1280x800.
And, umm, how do I use vis-blockers on an open map? I don't understand this outdoor optimization :(

I saw them the first time, but it looked to me as a bad setting of the monitor instead of a pixel problem, but maybe you´re right and something is starting to fail there. If so, sorry, my old 17 inch monitor started with something similar, a line that covered all the width of the screen with a slight lighter appearance, unnoticeable at first sight, but it appeared when using black backgrounds and such.

For the open range maps, you must take in count that, unless you will make a completely flat ground, outdoor maps have rocks, cliffs, little forest, high grass zones, buildings, etc. Use them as vis blockers ;)
