what kind of os doesnt allow you to edit or delete files on your OWN f@#KING computer? just because it come from another computer is no excuse. what did u think everyone is trying to delete crucial legal evidence or something? its a f@#king empty folder for gabens sake.

when you try to delete it it says 'access is denied' even when im admin. Then when you try to change permissions on the file it says you dont have permission to edit the permissions and you cant even see it. You wouldnt know how retarded win 10 is till you actually use one

if you run command prompt as an admin, navigate to the folder, can you delete the files that way?

Never had any problems with this except when software isn't run as admin and can't write to the system drive which is an irritation, but at least comes from a place of vague sense.

Well it certainly is evolving to what we know of scifi movies of the 80s / 90s full observation and control over you and your activities.

But for the most part the spyware can get disabled and muted sometimes even safely deleted.

Few basics for a fresh win10 install:

• Disable Cortana and various other resource hungry junk that's not needed or just spying on you.

• Get Classic Shell if you prefer your startmenu to look and behave like in XP, Win7 etc.

• Get Mozilla Firefox or Chrome as Microsoft Edge sucks.

• Make sure to check in your control panel for your virtual ram and your cpu cores. By default settings it lists only 1 primary core but not 4, 8, 16 or what ever you got. The benefit will be increased speed in win10 afterwards.

As for Admin privileges assuming you use Win10 Home I believe you need to apply a work around to grant yourself greater access to your own system. The advanced admin features arrive first with the Professional version, enterprise and so on. But things might have changed considerably since release so that info could be outdated. Should you be using any crap such as "Bit Defender" deleted it. That blocks many of your own admin rights as well because at least the free version considered it as possible attack on your system or as protection that you don't ruin critical system files and registry entries. I suggest Avast Antivirus instead.

win10 last update broke a lot of shit.
But to be fair, I run win 10 since start and only had 1 bluescreen since that!
So, i don´t think it is so bad, it runs as smooth as linux and stable aswell to me (only the last update made my go bluescreen and also broke a lot of the code)

its a brand new win 10 computer, cant be having corruption already. And i was trying to delete an empty folder, its not even a file. The folder just happened to have come from another computer via a flash drive so windows doesnt give me permission to delete it. An empty folder with nothing inside.

what if you put something inside the folder, like a .txt with mumbo jumbo in it.... then try to delete the folder?
can you move it or rename it?

@SourceSkyBoxer - I wrote that because 2muchvideogames is criticizing Windows 10 for something that can happen in every single Windows NT edition. The folder he is trying to delete has permissions held by system or has contained within system files. To delete such folders that came with high permission he has to remove them or negate the validity of those permissions. One such way is to boot an temporary operating system like linux or Windows PE (There are many Windows PE XP, 7, 8 and 10 editions he can use freely downloadable if you search well enough). One such rescue disk is an Hirens boot CD or DVD.

@23-down - The things you suggest appear to be for early versions of Windows 10. Edge is fast browser with plugin support in versions 1703 , 1709. Any free antivirus is not better than Windows defender, and this is a fact based on two years of active checks in real world conditions. In 3 years of servicing countless problems in both business clients and regular clients were due to misbehaving Avast antivirus and none due to Microsoft Defender antivirus.

Yap win defender is rather good nowadays.. It's enabled for me.

Next to Adwcleaner I also recommend to install Anti-Ranssomware by Malwarebyte as well.

I wouldn't recommend it over Vivaldi or Chrome, but actually it's pretty good. Considerably better than modern Firefox in terms of speed, comfort of use and resource-usage.
Took them far too long to retire IE, but they've done a good job.

The simple fact is you need a modern OS to take advantage of modern hardware. Win10 is exactly what we asked for after the disaster that was Win8: Win7, but with a couple of excellent new features. It's very comfortable, very stable (in my experience, anyway) and behaves perfectly and consistently across all 3 of my massively varied systems (A budget laptop, a high-end gaming PC at home and a ridicu-powerful workstation at work).

The privacy shit is a real problem, but that's more of a societal whole than just Microsoft being wanks. User data is the commodity of the 21st century and one OS is not going to change that.

I'm not fanboying and blindly defending; it's not perfect, but it's far, far from retarded, and a better option today than Win7. Certainly than XP.

You do understand that Windows 10 is based on Windows 8 and that it only has an more familiar user interface, right?

Problem with most people is that they are completely surface level. Windows 8, 8.1 , was a far better operating system than Windows 7 or any previous installments. That of course does not mean that Windows 10 is just an rebadge , it is an even further improvement of Windows 8, actually it is what Windows 8 should have been in the first place (With an fullscreen start in my opinion).

Exactly. The interface was what was so fucked about 8. They tried to bridge tablet and pc and just got both wrong.

With the Creator Update, Win 10 is quite flexible, and allows much more customization than previous versions.

I once had a problem exactly like this, except I had created the folder yet it still wouldn't allow me to delete it. Looking online I found it to be a known bug, yet none of the official fixes worked.
I eventually saw a comment on a YouTube video about the bug that did work.
The workaround was to use WinRAR to add the folder to an archive and click the box marked "Delete files after archiving", then once that's done you can just delete the archive.

Overall I like Windows 10 but it does have a number of problems that seem to be relatively common yet which Microsoft has made no attempt to fix.

I had the same problem with Windows 8 back then, the thing I did is that I right-clicked on the HDD, went to the "Security" tab and gave myself the INTEGRITY of ALL permissions from my account.

Now in Windows 10, I "almost" play by the rules, if I can't change anything with my standard privileges, I just "Run as Admin.".

Speaking of browsers, I'm quite surprised that nobody mentioned Opera, it's using the same web engine as Chromium/Google Chrome from quite some time now, the UI is just different minus the whole Chromium/Google Chrome market/heavy RAM usage/extensions stuff.

Vivaldi is the new version of Opera by its original co-founder. He wasn't happy with how bloated Opera had become, as well as how they were turning their back on the community and decided to start again with community focus at the forefront of every decision. I used to use Opera and the transition to Vivaldi has been wonderful.

I've heard of Vivaldi once and asked myself "What's so good about it that they're praising it?" and I saw it for myself. It's pretty cool.

My I.T. teacher from elementary school uses Opera, I guess I'll recommend him Vivaldi.

I let my 7-year-old brother use Vivaldi before I installed an antivirus on Windows 7 (I also have XP, but that's where Firefox is at).
No problems at all!

@TJB: That deleting thing is because NTFS technically supports file paths longer than 256 characters but Microsoft doesn't implement support for it in most built-in apps for backwards compatibility reasons.

WinRar happily supports long paths and will create them when extracting archives but then explorer can't deal with them... which is a bit of a problem.

That's a problem with all Windows versions but they've added the ability in Windows 10 to support long paths, but you run the risk of breaking older software (but I doubt it).

In the registry set HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem\LongPathsEnabled to 1. But the WinRar deletion work-around is handy and I've used it before.

Stick with Win98, Win XP and Win 7. Zero problems in 17, 14 and 7 years. XD
