Looks great Rimmeh, I almost forgot that you could map a non-surreal environment :P

Just throwing the request out there... if anyone would be interested in skinning my Desert Eagle, that would be awesome. I can skin it myself, but I've never been much of a texture artist, and I don't want this left incomplete because of a shitty texture job.

It's fully UV mapped, and if any of you are familiar with modeling apps, I can export the model so you can use the UV data to figure out any parts of the UV map that aren't recognizable.

Have you tried out of curiousity? I'm not a great texture artist but I learn and so should you :D What did you model it in btw?

Yeah, I've been working on a skin since I posted the YouTube video, and I intend to skin it myself, even if someone else makes one. I've tried skinning countless models before this one, though, and I can never do them any justice :D . You're right about practicing to get better/faster at it, I'll admit.

It's modeled in XSI, but I can always export the gun in .OBJ or some other format that can be read by any modeling program.

Here are the futile attempts at mapping i've done tehday.

A quite comical replacement for the tripmines, one that alters them to serve as large platforms. They work too, they have an area that is much larger than the tripmine's original collision box. Fun for those out-of-reach areas.

Tried my hand at some cartoon style stuff. It has a bit of potential but its not growing on me yet. I like the idea I could make drawn sprite trees and grasses, so I may develope something out of this. Already, I had made a nice beach wave that is well animated as well as a very lovely sky. Also tried for an infinity edge on the map. The skybox's TGA blue and the texture's BMP blue have the same RGB value, but they just refuse to line up perfectly. sigh

Just an idea I was toying around with today. As massive as it is, the dam I'm modeling this after (John Martin Dam - Las Animas, Colorado) is about twice the size (16 floodgates vs the 8 in mine). I figure the full dam would be too far across for the engine to handle.

Btw, Is the ceiling just covered with black texture?

This is my dedimap ... but I can't finish it now because with Ati Radeon HD4850, hammer has like 2 fps X( X( X( X( X( ....
What you see in the image is the beginning of the last part of the map, the part that will have huge amounts of entities and I think this will require a console command for more entities, which if you know it, please tell me !

The ceiling isn't full black ^^ It is covered with a black plaster style texture but can hardly be seen from this point of view

o_o What engine is that in anyways?
It doesn't give me a source vibe so...

It is source engine.

once I get the second area done I will ^_^
Also, a closer look at the ceiling because for an unknown reason the camera tool renders it black.

Rather sexy, Azura. Those marble textures could use some more gloss though.

Yes, I thought about it but I don't know how specular textures works so I am using non-specular ones.

Very sexy, i like those granite textures.

Rim, about those skybox textures and the horizon not lining up, try forcing the same pallet on them, might just work.

Some more progress on my dam concept. It's compiling right now for a test run, but the damn thing is so huge it's taking forever. No pun intended :P

In-engine shots of my dam. It's running in CS right now because of the materials available, but I should have it running in HL2 by the time I release it.

Interesting Azura,

Looks like a combination of Bioshock and Deus ex 2.

I think it looks more like Deus ex 2 than bioshock though.

I've always wanted to map a dam, just never really got around to it. That and my other project is on hold until XSI Mod Tool is back up for download.

By that I mean there a few small flaws that could be fixed. Like the grass texture could be scaled down a bit - looks a bit too blocky.

Yeah, looks great. My only complaint is how the sprites for the lamps in the first screenshot are clipping through the ceiling brush.
Posted 15 years ago2009-01-03 20:39:00 UTC Post #261046
Cant solve that because the glowing sprite looks ugly when its smaller.

There is so much good stuff in here it's hard to know where to begin, but i'll try:

Rim: looks good as usual, but there is something about NS textures that always came off as artificial to me though i can't say what aspect... I think you're right in saying your own textures would be much better.

Those portable platforms are quite neat too. Do they unfold or materialize via some neat animation sorcery? = )

HrnyPirate: Looks pretty neat. I like the interiors and anticipate seeing you add some furnishings. The dam looks quite promising as well.

Azura: That looks breathtaking. = 0 It reminds me of a casino, high-class hotel or corporate office, wow...

raver: as previously stated that looks amazing, especially how quick you made them map.

seth: Looks great and very detailed, if not a bit gloomily dark.

This is my Current project. It's a replica of the Black Pearl from the P.O.T.C. movies. I'm using the original half life textures for now. Just until i can acquire or make some of my own. There is still a lot more work to be done. For instance, i need to complete the masts, sails, ropes, cannons, brig, office area, cargo hold, keel, and the railings for the bow section.

In it's current state, that's about 4 or so hours of work.

@raver: User posted image (very nice!). Did you make those textures yourself?

@Tetsu0: nice brushwork you've got there. You may want to create models for the sails and animate them, to get some breeze in there. That'd be cool.
Posted 15 years ago2009-01-25 13:23:55 UTC Post #261872
I'll have to learn how to animate! I was just going to make them out of brushes, and i haven't decided if i want to make the sails rolled up, or down.

But i do plan on doing the ropes.
All of them.

EDIT---
Started the ropes on the main mast.

Hah that looks great!:) Good attention to detail and the scale/proportions look pretty good too. And agree the hl wood textures are uggs.

Rimrook, I expect that the skybox will change. Or he's making it a lake surrounded by cliffs.
