J.A.C.K.S seems to be mostly identical to Hammer although eaqier to use. I made my choice quickly. I'll have to donate.
Well, I would cast away money every day if I gave a fee everytime I use those shareware with donation.

It would be helpful to copy/paste some vectorized shape in JACK. Is there a way to do this with , say, Inkscape or Blender ?
Thank you!

Inserting pictures is easy:

Write [img][/img].
ends it.
In between those 2, paste the link of the image (which ends with .png or .jpg or .gif or whatever your format is).

Apparently... the parameters aren't a problem. You should go to options/preferences and find your game configuration. You know, "Base Game Directory" etc.

To insert a picture, use the BB-Code. But it only works in threads, but that's a journal so we better go into the thread instead.

You should use imgur for pictures. It's far more convenient. Try it, you don't even need to register there (I didn't register on imgur and still can upload images)

The .map files get exported to the folder by Hammer. But, the compiling tools don't even start working. They don't even produce the BSP file. If you were using J.A.C.K., it would have alerted you that the BSP file was not made.

"Unknown option "Editor\zhlt\hlcsg.exe"

Are you using expert mode in the compile menu?
Because your tools think that you are telling them to use some parameters like -extra -texdata 8192 and things like that, but you're telling them a folder or something. That's just wrong.

Instead, clean up your parameters (if using expert compile mode), or go to your game configuration and check the build tool paths.

Why does everyone write "LOG"? That's the universe where my mod takes place (L.O.G. - Land of Gamers), come on... just say log.

In my opinion, you either set up the configuration improperly (so the BSP ends up elsewhere) or the compiling tools don't get access to that folder because of Windows' security system. Though, I think it's the first one.

Paste the log here tomorrow, and we'll decypher what's going on. :)

Try using HDTune or some similar software to read its S.M.A.R.T. data, and also perform a scan of the disk.

When I bought an SSD for my laptop I used Samsung's Magician software, I'm not sure if it works exclusively with Samsung SSDs, but the point is that I clone the C:\ drive with Windows, and everything went smoothly.

@DiscoStu: Its just a way of doing it, the imaging will take less time since you wont be using the drive to run Windows while you are copying data to the new one. Both ways are fine :)

I've had one or two hdd's fail over the course of 16 years or something. Nothing significant was lost. Iv'e did more damage by accidentally formatting... twice. Oh how I wish I had known how to restore deleted partitions back then :( so from then I started keeping every old HDD Iv'e ever used. Got like 5 in the drawer + a couple of SSD's just in case I need some old files.

Now I got a Raid mirror array, but still working on setting up a proper backup solution.

It gets only harder the more you know about it... And that's without polish characters, because those can't be used in console applications.

Text doesn't really matter, you can change it to anything you want and it still would ask your for typing into variables then write it to file.

Here's a translation for those text bits:

ForestR - forest renewal software.

Rozpocznij projekt - start project
Wyjście - quit

Kraina przyrodniczo-leśna: Poland is split into 8 regions in which there are differences in DNA of plants, according to conditions in each of regions.

RDLP - regional management of states forest

TSL - forest habitat type

GDT - what you'd like to plant on the area. Written like this: 7So3Sw means that 70% of area would be taken by pine, 30% by spruce

Powierzchnia - area

Rębnia - the way tree cutting is planned. Like, Ia is a full clear cut, and it's used only during ecological disasters. There are much more categories of these.

Podaj means give, can be used as type in as well. Zapisywanie means saving

I did have a drive crash 9 years ago with no warning at all. I didn't mind most of what I lost but I did have to start over a group project I was really fond of. It turned out better than it was before the crash. As for the drive, I put it in a box forever hoping one day I'd be able to afford a data recovery service. A decade later, I'm not sure I want to invest in that that badly :P

But, considering right now I have plenty of stuff that is a lot more important than anything I had when I was 20, and much less free time, I should make sure it doesn't have to happen again.

Extremely easy with acronis true image if, that is, your hard drive is still healthy (with out slow/no response sectors).

Some times drives click on their own when they realign their heads, or if they lost power for a fracture of a second. Check your hard disk power supply as well.

Try Macrium Reflect if you want to do it from Windows.
Or if you are more experienced boot up a live linux distro and use dd to clone the drive (be careful not to override your existing drive).

Oh you will need a usb to sata adapter or some other way to plug the second drive into the pc.

Despite Polish being a Slavic language I will never know, I found one word which could mean something in Bosnian: "Zapisywanie".

"Zapisivanje" means "writing down" in Bosnian.
"Zapisati" = "To write down"

Also, "podaj" means "give" in south-Slavic. xD
I kind of found it funny when I heard Russians saying "davaj" because "davaj" also means "give" in my language.

I'd move with the intention to work while you study - I'd suggest moving early and getting a job over the summer before uni starts in September/October. You can certainly support yourself while in part-time work (20-30hrs/wk) while in university in the UK, unless you're someplace really expensive (London etc.), but then again finding better work is far easier in large cities. As others have said, it doesn't matter how expensive a place is if they pay more proportionately.

If you're gonna do games, just find other amateur devs wherever you are locally and start on your own projects. Approach it as you would mapping or modding, try to collaborate on small things to get your bearings initially. Always favour smaller/more boring projects that you can ship instead of huge daunting things that have a high chance of never getting completed.

Uni alone doesn't land you anything these days, and even the best courses can be out-of-date due to how fast the industry moves technically. You basically need to have made games before you can land any kind of decent industry job these days. University can only facilitate/support that at best, maybe throw in some networking opportunities, but it's still down to your work at the end of the day. On the bright side, game dev tools have never been as good/accessible as they are now, what with Unity/Unreal etc. Prime time to go for it! [/rant]

I'm considering it as an option mainly because I like to have many plans and opportunities. It doesn't necessarily have to be UK. And the are a few good universities in Poland as well.

I'm kinda afraid of moving to another city, and moving abroad is full of even bigger potential dangers.

Here costs of life are kinda high, especially medicine, taxes and education. And any construction is a literal money sink - just recently cast a drive-in to my house with concrete, and paid well over 4000PLN. For me it was a cosmic amount, since I don't work, parents are ill and don't work as well, and money from government lasts for really short time...

A common mistake is judging a country's economy by the exchange rates. Exchange rates don't matter, they're just a number. What matters is how much you make vs. the costs of living. What's left is what determines what else you can do with your life.

To stay on topic, I heard good things of some Spanish universities but I forgot which. And Spain is a nice place.

For a pole, studying anywhere abroad is expensive. 1 Pound/ 1 USD is almost 5 PLN, 1 Euro is about 4 PLN.

I'm rather surprised, that's on par with my country's currency. I'm surprised because, afaik, Poland exports a lot of stuff, absorbed a lot of Europe funds and overall has a much healthier economy. That's what I understood at least from local news stories. It's also reflected in the kefir from my fridge, that I bought from Lidl - it's imported from Poland. Oh and you must have heard about TME... almost any electronic components are imported, if not from China, Poland.

I like calm places, so I might check it. Though all the brexit bullshit and latest events discourage from moving anywhere...

I get that feeling. Some people ask me if I want to go abroad at some point... and you know, I realize that I'm a bit scared to do that. I've become too comfortable in my place now... altohugh I should change that. catWithNewsPaper.jpg. It's also when I saw those videos of immigrants in Calais last year or when, it gave me a strong impression that the social fabric in the west is slowly falling apart. (not that it's any better here)

It's quite cheap for the UK, but still more expensive than Poland I believe.
Perhaps anywhere but London, right?

@Snehk: What motivates you to go study abroad? And why UK?

Dundee's a nice place, I like it (and I consider staying there). Quite boring though, but I actually like the fact it's calm.
It's quite cheap for the UK, but still more expensive than Poland I believe. It's not hard to find a job if you're into computing / web development, but even if you're not I don't think it's that hard either (most students I know from there have a job).
I can't remember if they accepted the TOEFL, I remember I had to pass the IELTS test to be admitted, which was quite expensive.
There is a lot of Polish students and the Polish society is quite active.
Who knows, maybe I'll see you there someday... :P
