Discostu, we were permitted to take the exam questions out of the exam hall after the exam had finished.
Stojke, its very much a case of a shit professor. She's not gone to the effort to recommend us any external materials and actually stated to not buy any other books or anything. Weve got a handful of workbooks but they've just got really really shit content. It'll state 2 or 3 things, then go "from this we can get" and plonks out a seemingly random convuleted equation with little to no explanation as to what it actually means or represents. Its then followed by only 1 worked example which has no explanations as to what is happening at each stage, so youve just to guess or make a rough assumption. Its a very, very poorly organised course.

Stojke, I've been at the university library pretty much every day for the last couple weeks.
We've just not been taught the course. We've been taught examples of questions and a few things like how to deal with dot products, cross products, determinants, matrices and that shit. Same with differential equations. But we've not been taught what any of it means or represents so it's really, really hard for us. Like literally, they've just taught us examples, not the actual theory behind it. Most of us came out the exam entirely confident we'd failed.

My two cents is that windows 8 / 8.1 so far has been much faster, much smoother and a generally more stable OS than previous windows versions. I can't remember the last time I used a single metro app but that hasn't changed my opinion of the OS at all.

Archie, that was before I had experienced univeristy nightlife. I'm used to it now, or so I thought.

I genuinely don't think this was a case of me just being drunk, because drunken me does not have the energy to run 5 miles and jump over people's fences. Drunk me collapses into a heap, as archie may also remember from september. I swear to god I got slipped an eccy or some shit

AJ - from what I remember, the night consisted of

Pint Snakebite made with carling & strongbow ( tasted like complete dick ), 2 litres of strongbow. This was over 2 hours so it wasn't that bad.
The minute I Walked into why not I must've had one shot of tequila, then I had two shots of tequila after that, two shots of sambucca after that, and then god knows how many until I ended up in the middle of nowhere

On the contrary CT, everyone i've met said that if I lost the facial hair I'd look like a complete tosser.
I've cleaned it up a bit but I'm keeing it at my jaw line - a sort of chinstrap. Cause I was a bit of a late bloomer I can't grow that much hair ( I can, but it's patchy) outside of the jaw line so I thought I'd keep it clean until it grows out a bit more.

That's the plan ghost129er! We just need to give the game a ( hefty amount of ) polish. The only issue is that the game is really only suitable for tablets due to their large screen.
I've already made changes such as changing the hud into a radial hud that follows the player, and added a few effects.

The Punk IPA that brew dog do is actually really nice, love it's flavour. Quite beefy, got a lot of base.

As you can probably gather I'm relatively shit at describing tastes but it's certainly quite nice. Their little bars that they have ( nice wee one down Cowgate in Edinburgh) are lovely little places, have a nice atmosphere and look, and have little jokes wherever they can. They've got another beer similar to Vlad's called "Dead Pony Club". That kind of humor.

personally I enjoy windows 8. I haven't used the app store once in the year and a bit I've had this computer. it also took me just under a year to figure out that you could turn off the computer by putting your cursor in the corner, rather than having to sign out of your account, and shutting the computer down from the lock screen.

8's pretty fast and seems to boot up ridiculously quickly, doesn't bring up many errors and therefore a pretty good OS imo

It didn't happen during the lan, it was coming back from it. I was an idiot and didnt get a taxi, even though my flat is only a 5 minute walk from where the lan was held, it's a bitch to carry a massive monitor and a massive computer along with all the peripherals that far.

It's the heatsink, somehowit fell off. I have no idea how. I can't see any damage whatsoever done to the motherboard components so it should be fine in that sense. Some of the thermal paste is coming off the top of the CPU and just for safety i've removed the spillage using a card. None of the paste has got onto any contacts though. It's managed to get on top of some other heatsink on the motherboard though :/

It's not an AMD heatsink, I checked when I was buying it and it fits an intel processor fine.

I'm going to remove all thermal paste and reapply it because I want as much conduction as possible, if i jam it back on now I'm going to see much less heat dissipation.

I can't do anything about it until wednesday evening ( tonight i'm revising for a physics test and tomorrow my 'buddy'
is coming up.. No gaming until after that) which sucks ass

well the speel that our tutor was going on about is that Haskell is a functional language, that it's not object oriented. It's also lazy - ie intelligent, it can figure out a lot of things on its own - but an example of this is like zipping ( putting things from a list and another list together to make a list of pairs ) a small list with an infinite list. Any other language would have to compute the infinite list before zipping it to a small one, whereas haskell will only compute it to the point it needs to.

It's also apparently becoming more prelevant as haskell is very good with multi-core processors and parallel computing, so it's faster than other languages.

but it's also a bitch and nobody uses it

Learn You A Haskell is exactly what i'm reading, and with some thought I actually got to that.

the real issue was I had no idea how to do rotate, to which after some thinking I got

rotate :: Int -> [Char] -> [Char]
rotate a xs | a >= 1 && a <= (length xs) = (drop a xs) ++ (take a xs)
| a < 0 = error "the number is negative JUST LIKE YOUR OUTPUT ON LIFE"
| a > (length xs) = error "your rotation is too large LIKE YOUR MOTHER"
| otherwise = xs
to which I could do

makeKey :: Int -> [(Char, Char)]
makeKey rotateChar = zip ['A'..'Z'] (rotate rotateChar ['A'..'Z'])

there's some other stuff I can't do but I guess that's what these tutorial sessions are for.

I had an idea for an RTS in which players have a set income to begin with ( random value ) and for each unit they kill, they receive how much it cost to create that unit. So basically your income is "bounties". Puts people off turtling as if they don't have some form of attack, they'll be overrun by a massive army and they've lost all chance of income.

It's a city, I've been brought up in a small town where everything you do is whispered around the town in a matter of hours. Being able to walk in a city with the confidence that "nobody gives a fuck" is the best thing ever. I wore my vom trousers with pride.

Obviously it was a social gathering and not "TWHL nerdout 2013" - mapping and all that shit was not on the plate.

Number 2 is about some "gamer" girl that turned up with Archie's crew with a lambda tattoo on her wrist which initially had me going "are you being serious" but then it turns out she's a bit of a player / seeker. Nothing happened.

Number 3 is regarding my inability to realise when I've had one too many vodka / double vodka cokes. Felt ill within about 5 minutes and had to rush to the bathroom. Somehow, I throw up all over my trousers, rather than the toilet. And I had to get back to Edinburgh the day after, with no change of clothes at all. The sheer definiton of "walk of shame"

She's not interested, but she's trying to make it seem as if it wasn't your fault - she's trying to be nice about it. She obviously wants to be friends, but doesn't want you to invade her vaginal cavity just yet.

I'm doing advanced maths at my school.
I've felt like crying, a lot.
I managed to get 20% in my prelim and 36% in my post prelim .

first order and second order Differential equations, proofs ( by contradiction and shit ), binomial theorem and other shit genuinely make me want to break down and cry.

And Stojke, give me the answer to this then if you are so good at maths?

If I wasn't accepted unconditionally I would've probably got something along the lines of having to achieve at least a C in both advanced higher maths & advanced higher physics.

She doesn't care though , in her words " i'll be fine. everything will be fine. whether hes dead or alive."

Well so far they can't really do that much now as they've only got my friend's words ( however I think the father now running away and threatening suicide reinforces this) - I haven't asked her if there have been any advancements today. Only until the police have gone through all this shit that the government can start helping them. She's 16 - since she's been in scotland she's entitled to free university ( SAAS Pays for tuition fees for all scottish students at scottish universities ) , it's really one of her main goals and from what it sounds like she's going to get the right grades to get in. It's just that it's more her family and friends to be honest. The damage has already been done to her, but her stepdad was the only source of income in the family. Her mother will have to quit university and get a job to support her younger brother and sister, and it'll be hard for her to support her bigger sister who goes to uni as well.

It's hard to think of solutions though, because it's a really pretty big involvement with the police on the phone half of the time. It's life changing shit, and nothing I can say will help to be honest. I'm not exactly the best quick thinker, I can have a laugh but i'm not an entirely optimistic person and I'm worried whatever I say could be taken wrongly and just make things significantly more shit..

I hope to god she's alright today.

How lovely. Her mother was initially widowed because for depression or something, her husband and my friend's father commit suicide. The issue is that now, her step-dad has gone missing and now he's messaging her bio mother threatening to commit suicide. That's going to fuck her up big time if he does...

I really should've stayed in better contact with her. Should I go and see her on the weekend or get her to come to me ( bear in mind she's 1 1/2 hours away )

Yeah it's quite dark, but it still provides a point. These guys are quite literally not affected by the crash in the slightest and the majority of the people taking this opportunity aren't even from Lockerbie. And they get to go to 'murrica and get shit-tonnes of money whilst they're at it. lucky buggers.

And.. thanks I guess stu? I fail to see what you can't gather from it. Here I'm merely showing my jealous because some twats down the road get to piss off to 'murrrica and I , 10 miles up, don't. My previous journal entry was about getting another unconditional offer from a university, yet still wanting to hold out until I hear back from Edinburgh university ( commonly known as the burgh ), and the one before was merely an extract from my shitey little life, and how doing such innapropriate and frankly offensive things such as going to midnight mass whilst drunk is just one segment of it.
Cryptic, not really. I'm just giving out little points of information rather than minute-by-minute accounts of something vaguely noteworthy happening.
