You know,I appreciate every map ,because everybody puts some little effort for these creations. And some of you maybe will comment on the stupid lighting ,well I won't because I even didn't notice, only after about a hour or two of play.

yeah, i followed the installation instructions to the letter, but they dont work on any of my three computers, they all had 9 gb space, so space is not an issue, i re-downloaded like 5 times, i gave my friend the link to download, and he cant get it to work on his 2 computers, the only thing all these computers have in common, is that they all have the HL games from the Half-life platinum pack, so we are not using steam (not for HL1 at least) Please dont tell me im going to have to live my life without playing this mod :/

Double post (sorry)

- OR

I have Half-life Retail installed in

"C:/Sierra/Half-life"

Some other people could have it installed there also (its the default install)
Commented 17 years ago2007-09-29 10:35:35 UTC in vault item: Half-Life: Uplink Extended 1.1 Comment #15686
Could it be that people are using it in steam?

"C:/ProgramFiles/Steam/Steamapps/<steamname>/half-life/uplink_ext"??

That could be most of the bugs aswell, like the splash screen only works in Half-life Retail (you need resources for a Steam version)
Commented 17 years ago2007-09-28 16:09:26 UTC in vault item: Half-Life: Uplink Extended 1.1 Comment #15685
:/

When you open the zip, you see a folder called uplink_ext.
Copy that folder to your Half-Life folder.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH DISKSPACE.

It doesn't matter where Half-Life itself is installed.

yes, Hlife_hotdog's "xen crystal" and "fathom 2.5"

however 3 other mods, including this one, i have not been able to install successfully. However, i dont see any reason why any of them should act differently

Very nice. Lighting was really nice, lots of effort was shown to complete this. I was almost expecting to see another tower on the other side of the map, kinda like a glorified 2fort.

one thing i may say is that the tower is a little hard to get to the top. I had fallen off once and it put me up there.

The gravity lift things were a cery cool idea to move players straight up and down without much trouble.

But like the rest of us, i wish i could play it on a server and see how it fares.

also, very nice textures ;)

ok, does it have to be in program files? because i have half-life in C:/games/half-life on one of my other computers, but it still wont load after hitting new game

why cant i ever get a single mod to work :/
Commented 17 years ago2007-09-27 15:57:09 UTC in vault item: Half-Life: Uplink Extended 1.1 Comment #15679
Perhaps not all files were installed due to insufficient space on drive C. Clear up some space (at least 30/40 mb) then reinstall the mod.

i cant use C drive because its full, is this the problem? Does it HAVE to be in C:program files?

What can i say? this map is great, too bad im not a huge fan of half-life multiplayer. As was said before, the architecture, lighting and ambience combined to make an awesome map.

btw, this killed my map test computer, i had to move it over to my mapping computer (which is about 3 times faster) just to play it ;)

Elevators? What elevators?
Commented 17 years ago2007-09-27 12:56:21 UTC in vault item: Utopium Comment #15673
Well, this map has been in the works for a while, and it sure has that feel to it. It's a great piece of mapping.

The textures are beautiful, sharp, and perfectly aligned, maybe the wall of the main building could be a bit more detailled, but all in all it's allright. The curves are nice, and simply loved that holographic, moving ring thing. That fall-and-don't-die-instead-get-RL stuff was strange at first, but it makes the gameplay more fluid, so it's ok. (I can imagine everyone diveing for the RL :)) The ambience is also great, it makes the map more surreal. The elevators are also cool, but can give some unfair advantage, since they're not so fast, a few grenade throws can be lethal there. However, the map is very open, and if someone stands still, and starts to throw grenades in one spot, someone is gonna gun his ass, so that won't happen often :)

Overall: Great work. This is gonna be a nice map to nail each others asses with my friends.

definitely checking it out and restocking my batman-belt with more anti-fanboy spray.

I'm well aware of the gameplay issue in my maps. I've read some books about it to help with 6D. But you'll have to wait.

I'm not really a fan of these types of maps, as in, that 'rimrookish' style. However, I can't deny the fact their beautifully made, but unlike maps from Rimrook, this one seems like it'll actually have decent gameplay! (And all you Rimrook fanboys, stfu plz..)

It's basicaly a killbox, but in a good way..
Weapon placement is decent I guess, I don't know about that RPG up top, seems like a nice camping spot, everyone coming up gets a big fat rocket in their face..

I like the simpelistic architecture combined with the 'quiet' lightning, it gives the map a natural charm. I like the ambience aswell.

Overall, I like this map, it isn't the best around, it isn't top notch, but it's most certainly above averange. 4 well deserved stars! :)

That right there, is pretty darn cool! Very Rimrookish!

Great ambience.
Great theme.
No lag on my machine.

If i still had my HL1 server, i would definitely put it on!

Good job.

You should have this in the end:

Commented 17 years ago2007-09-24 16:09:36 UTC in vault item: Xen Crystal (HL1 SP Mod) Comment #15666
ok, i finally got a chance to play this. For the first mod, its really great, and it already kicks the crap out of anything i could possibly do.

I liked the gameplay, the only things i had problems with were visuals, architecture, textures (some textures seemed out of place), and deatil could have been improved, but, then again, it always can ;) Some of the puzzles though, i must point out, looked as if they were placed by the mapper, let me explain. In half life, all the puzzles were created by one feature of the facility, clashing with another, and reacting naturally because of the disaster (like electrified water, or spilled barrels etc) Most of your puzzles lacked this realism. While were talking about realism, i must comment on the beginning parts of the map, when you have to use the levers to open grates and such? Well, i had a hard time trying to think of where i was in the facility, or what puropose that area could possibly serve. In general, the map seemed created around the puzzles and gameplay, instead of putting the puzzles in a realistic part of the facility. Its a difficult thing to explain, but its that realism that gave Half-life its rich gameplay

overall, the mod could be improved, but its a good piece of mapping. I give the mod 4 stars, because the interesting story and exciting gameplay made me forget some of the more lacking aspects of the visuals,

I noticed this problem too. I think you are not allowed to change level underwater (causes problems???). I recommend jumping to level 4 because I stopped there and then started up again later.

The crinity link to your custom sky doesn't work either, lol, another reason you should include all the content you can in the download.

If you can't make the the 2mb size limit, there are tons of 3rd-party hosts...

warning: couldn't open cs_cargo.wad

Other people have pointed this out, why not fix it?! I just spent 10 minutes dicking around with this map and re-downloading it to see if you updated.

It's not hard to fix. look in the tutorial section. there's a tutorial that tells you how to include every texture in the map or how to include just the non-standard textures used.

A quick look in hammer at the texture wads used--under options i think--will tell you all the included wads with your map.

Last rant: maps like this should be moved to another section for maps that don't work... I mean it is the 'completed' section.

Please PM me if you fix! It looks cool from the screenshot.

The second map is very bugged for me. First, the weapons stop working, I can't select between any weapon, Second, all the buttons in the map doesn't work, Third, all the monsters start dead, I couldn't pass trought this level, I reloaded on the first map and everytime I get on the second level it has the same bug, I jumped to the third map wich I liked a bit, not the mapping and level of detail (wich is very very bad, the rocks look like shit), I liked the Uplink style puzzle, I didn't finished it because it has some bad very bad bugs wich don't let me pass trough or I'm doing something wrong. Whatever, I think this one is fun to play when not bugged... Good job!.

I don't mind bad reviews, I just put this up so people could have some fun and play something a little different. Trust me, I KNOW it's bad. But as it was the first mod I ever made back when I just started mapping for HL I kept it for my timeline of hl mapping. I was planning a sequel but I didn't bother with it. I have the storyline written down somewhere if anyone wants to make the sequel.
Commented 17 years ago2007-09-22 16:07:07 UTC in vault item: de_mon Comment #15658
You should be able to play it on hl... just unrar it on the half-life/valve/ folder, create a server (with any map) and than change it using changelevel de_mon.

it should work, but you will respwan only in the terrorist's area and there will be no guns... or you can activate cheats and use impulse 101 ;D

Im now installing HL1 on my laptop (im not at home) so i can check this out. :)

Edit: HL failed to install on this laptop (dvd drive is dying). But there's always Steam.

Well, what can i say? I hope you're ready for some negative comments, but since this mod is kinda old, i don't think you really care.

- Bland mapping. Every single wall was flat.

- Bad texturing.

- Incorrect use of texture themes

Perhaps more. Oh well. Might as well stop writing this review.
