I'm running a non-GT 6800 here. I can only manage 4xAA and 8xAF with this card. But with those settings, in 1280x1024, it's never below 120fps on this map.

...oh btw, the Mini-Sub ruled. Forgot that. Also, the lighting for that room was great.

...Although, the computer screens were really annoying as there was too much text and it appeared too slowly, although its a neat idea maybe try and cut it down a bit?

Hmmm, my laptop's 8600GT mobile dips to a jerky 20-30fps. 1280x1024, 8xAA/16xAF. I get a rock solid 60 almost all the time.

It's like trying to bike with really wrong gear. More power will overcome it somewhat, but it's still the wrong gear. For example, try Trapt's "Island Bombing"

Those fish were actually just leeches with a different model and yes, i put them intentionally in annoying places like the cafeteria because the tables and bright light hide them and they sneek up and bite your ass! Also, this mod was loosely based on the movie "Deep Blue Sea". @srry FileFront send you an email saying you have four days to 'save' your file. They put it in a queue and you have four days to login and check a box to say don't delete so I don't mind, I put it here because Dave said he only just played it so I assumed many people haven't checked the comp page and put it in the vault to get some more downloads on it and feedback.

Dave, the map runs only slower because some graphics card's have trouble to manage with a lot of huge additive sprites and a lot of "solid" textures. You can try lowering the resolution, turning down Anti Alising affect's and even changing the API. It helped a lot one frined to play it on a geforce 2 mx....

srry, yea, that's the magic. It would be impossible to make a map like this using default textures scale, the divisions would be overkill. But this type of map is just different. That's the way I like to make maps, as you can see in my past maps. This is basicaly the evolution of my skills and I hope it's enjoyable.

btw, have anyone found the easteregg? It's on the soda machine... you need to make the right combination. BUT before that, you need to find the lock... it's a button ;D good luck

World Crafter, it's because most of the terrain is blocky and low polygon, with plenty of stretched textures. Most of the details are actually models.

It looks god at a distance, but up close it can look rather awkward with very squarish cliffs. The textures helped though.

Why not just link to the download page? It doesn't have to be a direct download link, you know. And I gotta say, it's pretty friggin' annoying downloading a text file just to get a link.

However, you should just use oxihosting instead of FileFront. They'll never delete your files.

I really liked this - when I first saw it on the compo page my monitors brightness was turned down and the screeny looked real bad - but I dl'd it anyway. Pretty damn awesome - and funnily enough I replayed it last week. It was so in keeping with "The Deep Blue Sea" which I gather was kinda intentional! :)

The only thing negative I can think of ATM was the re-modeled <can't remember name> fish was really buggy and kept getting stuck. It was really annoying and easy to kill. Also, it took me ages to get through the gap when falling down the lift-shaft - although maybe I just sucked! ;)

Overall though - extremely clean. Great length and quality map for such a short time period. I loved it when the glass in the window broke and the water ran into the next room leveling it up - it looked really effective - its more fun faking these kind of effects than getting the HL2 engine to do it automatically.

A well deserved 1st place!

Definately one of the better maps I've ever seen for the GoldSrc engine.

Very ambitious, and very well done.

I thought that a couple of the big treeline textures were a little bit over-stretched, but this is being rather picky. The rocks and cliffs are very good, and the layout is really good too. Things go a bit wierd when you're underwater, but I'm not sure you if could do much about it on this map. I think there could be more shadows, but again I'm being picky.

Very impressive.

Wow!

This map first struck me as very ambitious in both gameplay and looks. Hills, towers, lifts, caves, etc present a very complicated maze of paths. You can see pretty much across the whole map (making smoke grenades & sniper rifles important), but unfortunatly this presents rather poor performance.

The textures are very crisp, everything is made of well-placed brushes, and the "bloom" effect is pulled off well. The only problem occurs when you step into the water lol.

Excuse my nitpicking, i'd like to try this map on a 32 player server, it looks like fun.

Thats why there arent that many weapons.

In most of the fy_ maps have weapons at the spawn for what reason? When i play fy_ map i dont even bother moving because i already have a good weapon. I just wait for people to come and get me.
In this i broke the "pattern". I placed weapons "randomly".
I wanted the players to fight for better weapons. Also the better weapons are pulling the players off the spawn like an objective.
It propably would've worked better if the map would've been bigger...

I thought about adding a route thru the building but there wasnt really time for that. I also didnt have time to optimize the map. ~1700 r_speeds in ct spawn.

There are few problems with the lighting. The lamp textures doesnt emit light, the lights are too bright and then theres that green area in the lighting because of the engine.

"Well the league stages of the 2on2 competition are now over and we move into the knockout stages which will be played after boomy comes back off his hols!!

We had some excellent games during the league's and some funny highlights like Pacman grenading Joel, Players hunting the mysteriously placed M4 & Ak of fy_caerla (the best matches came out of this unusal map), Iain grenading Hybrid & Abit in the house on de_backalley, we had some very close fought games."

Geez, you people love to drag people down. I didn't like this one, to much empty space and the houses just felt poor in comparison because of what was outside. I'll give it a 2 just because it was a good map coming but fell short.

I like the layout of this map, make it larger or get rid of the black and add scenery, better texturing and add some fun stuff like secrets and traps. This kind of map is begging for some. I having a friend rate 5 stars is a bit cheap but dragging his map down with 1 star ratings just to drop the 5 star rating is rather bad. You should have done that THEN rate it properly based on the actual map. We are supposed to be rating the map after all and not the person! This map could be much better, I recommend working on it.

ive made well over 100 maps for dod, dod_orange2, dod_blue, snow_snipers, crasy_jump2, Spacetemple, and when i see maps i know exc what should be added and i would really like to work with you with my creaction and your bluiding we could make the prefect top 10 map.

Yea, the map is not that perfect in some aspect's. I tryed to make the river better but it will just look as it is: Blocky... and the boat is more a gameplay balancer ;D

As long as the gameplay is good for you, the map is good ;D

Regarding our conversation on IRC, not everyone is a noob like Mirasa here. There are VERY good mappers here, and you shouldn't judge the quality of this site by one crappy fy map you saw.

Hate to say it but I agree with Srry:
Delete all comments not relevent to the map.

Also sort out the ratings posted by idiots who think that because one person votes 5 stars for a "shit" (in their OPINION) map they need to tip the balance back to 0 in an amazingly unfair manner without actually even looking at the smegging map in question.

Ignore the people on this site = worst suggestion ever. I don't know why on earth you would think that we like boring maps here, but you're just plain wrong.

Notice though how we weren't actually commenting on the map, we were commenting on how it's unfairly rated. Muzz or somebody needs to get in here and delete all the ratings and comments.

From the screen shot it doesn't really look like you worked very hard. Just some basic shapes and a few models. Hell, judging by the model you didn't even add lights. Read some tutorials and practice a little before you release another map.

As for the map - it's far from perfect, though I kind of liked it.

The architecture was mostly clean-ish and average, but EXTREMELY undetailed. The theme being surreal provides you with tons of choices to spice things up in an original and weird way. Didn't see any of that inside the building. Texturing was very dull and wasn't anywhere near surrealistic. Same problem with lighting.
Another thing, that you've overlooked was ambience. Some weird sounds would've been great.
About the gameplay and layout - it's pretty interesting, though as Sajo said, the weapon placement was random. That's a very bad idea for a map with one main battle area, since it makes the map look more like a killbox. The r_speeds were a bit high in the bottom/top of the map, though it's still playable.
Still - making a killbox look like a decent map isn't easy and you've accomplished that quite well. :>
I'd give 2.5 stars, since it's very lacking, but let's make that a 3. Work harder on visuals and the atmosphere and you'll have yourself quite an original and fun map.

Stuff like "OMG this one texture doesn't match the the side of these stairs..." often get ignored since it takes a clump of minutes to recompile it with the minor changes. A more serious thing would be "zOMGzorzozez! I get stuck in a spawn!" which is worth fixing.

I'll DL it and see for myself tho.
