Every single update of Youtube's interface is junk. It doesn't get worse every time, it just doesn't get any better. They update it just for the sake of making an update, probably to please investors or something. They just need to learn to leave it well enough alone, or make subtle updates instead of massive interface changes.

Whoever put your wheels on last obviously neglected to correctly fasten the lug nuts. You said you just brought it into a shop a few weeks ago. That's the most likely source of your particular predicament, although it would be pretty hard proving it to be their fault, given the amount of time that lapsed before it happened.

It also looks like you sheared off one of your lug studs in the process.

Hope you collected the wheel. In all likelihood there's nothing wrong with it, and those things are damn expensive.

Grim: Tell him to get a gat dang alignment bruh.

I don't see how it's pointless, Collapse, unless you yourself do not enjoy making and playing your own mods/maps at all. I mean, I've got tons of material I've produced that was never released, and which I am very proud of. I'd hardly call it pointless. It was very gratifying work, and I got a lot of enjoyment out of it. None of it was quite worthy of release in whatever form it was left in, but pointless? Yeah, nah. Not at all.

I don't need to be recognized for my actions to enjoy them or anything. If I didn't like mapping for the creative process itself, I'd never have even tried it in the first place.

I realize this has become incredibly far off the topic at hand, though.

My feeling is just that if you create something which you enjoy immensely yourself, and you also intend for others to enjoy, there shouldn't be any need for massive media campaigns to gain interest in it prior to release. Of course I'm only talking about the world of GoldSource modding, which is so incredibly small that anyone still interested is going to end up seeing your mod if you post it around to a few sites. If a mod ends up being any good, it's going to attract a huge number of players through positive reviews alone. That's the number one reason I personally download mods. Not pre-release screens or trailers. It's the reviews I see once it's released that draw me in.

I mean sure, in terms of motivation, it's incredibly inspiring when you hear there's all these people who can't wait to play your mod. But I never once started working on a project because I thought it would have mass appeal. I was always in it for myself.

If you're not mapping for recognition you're doing it wrong also
srry i disgree strngly.

Unless your ultimate goal is to get hired as a result or something.

I mean there's a difference between trying to entertain people with your work, and trying to get your name all over shit. I couldn't care how many people know my name... if they enjoy the product, who cares. Again, most of us did not get into mapping - much less GOLDSOURCE MAPPING - for the money, so personal recognition is kinda silly unless you're trying to profit from it.

But do as you will.

I'm not a "watcher" on any site, but that doesn't mean I'm not interested in the mod. Frankly, I'd be concerned more with final download numbers than your fan-base at this point.

For instance, I and many other people didn't play the They Hunger (HL1) series until years after its last installment had already been released. And yet I still consider myself a big fan of that trilogy.

And, frankly, though The Core looks very interesting, it does look very stylistically similar to a lot of other HL1 mods, which causes it to blend in amidst a sea of similar looking mods... even if it's entirely different and of way higher quality. You just can't tell stuff like that from screenshots and trailers.

I'd go so far as to say that most mods, SP ones in particular, do not gain a large following or recognition until after their release and subsequent review by members of the community.

Honestly, though, back when I was still making mods... I would have been extremely happy if maybe five or ten TWHL members played through it and really enjoyed it. If you're mapping for recognition, I feel like you're doing it wrong.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

I sweat like crazy. I usually have to apply deodorant once before bed and once in the morning for it to work throughout the day. Sometimes I even have to wash my armpits in the middle of the day and reapply the stuff since I reek so bad. I have the ability to ruin a set of shirts within a month from all the sweat stains they get. I started only wearing black shirts to hide the stains.

WHERE ARE YOU GETTING THESE MODS?

I am genuinely curious!

And how do you play them on your Dreamcast? Do you burn a game CD with the mod files on it in place of the originals?

I can't imagine what would possess somebody to create a HL mod on the Dreamcast as opposed to the PC. It makes no sense to me. I have the DC version of HL, and "difficult to manage" would be a bit of an understatement regarding the realities of using a gamepad to play it.

Why are you shocked that people are still debating gay marriage? At least in America, it's a hotly debated issue, and people have strong opinions about it which are largely based on their own sense of morality - and as everybody knows, legislating morality is a losing battle. Somebody's always going to end up with their feelings hurt. The answer might seem obvious to you and me, but I'm sure the opposite answer would seem just as obvious to somebody else.

They don't really give anything worthwhile away in U.S. gaming magazines. Too broke probably.

Also, there's no way that can be pure luck. Or maybe it's just that nobody else enters. What's the prize/entry ratio like? Do you win pretty much any time you enter?

It seems only yesterday I was helping you pick out parts for your first machine on IRC. :') Interestingly I'm still using the exact same outdated system I was back then (sometime in '08 I believe?)

However, I think I would have gone for an Intel i5 2500K at that price range, at least for a gaming machine, although they both have their strengths. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/288?vs=203 Of course, you Aussies have ridiculous price discrepancies compared to us, so the mere $25 price hike over here for an i5 could be greater for you I suppose.

You can actually modify the lightmap size through some compile tool command, so it will affect the entire map without even having to resize your textures, though you may take an even bigger performance hit, and you'll be very likely to run into some nasty lighting bugs.

You don't really get your license at 15 here most of the time, usually by the time you have your full license (not just your permit, which you legally need to be accompanied by a licensed adult to drive with) you're already going to be 16. And to get your license this early you have to pay for expensive on-the-road training classes first. That's why a lot of people simply wait until they are 18. Then all they need to do is take the written exam, the driving test, and then they've got their license.
