Never had a contest map before where could not settle on a theme, even up to the last week before the extension was up. All my ideas seemed either too much work to finish, or they really didn't reflect the original map in a logical way. Having much more inspiration than workable plans, I just said fuck it and went abstract as possible(had plans for some MAJOR func_vehicle fuckery as well).
It was very refreshing to see how very creative peeps were with their remakes, and really just incredibly fun compo

Lighting(RAD) is the most important step which dictates how you're map is gonna look, i.e., a blocky & mono-textured map, yet crisp & contrasty lighting would look better than one with baller materials & brushwork, yet fullbright. In a nutshell:

Good story of determination, and booze?
My semi-recent upgrade(nothing even close to as nice as yours), I got nothing on the first try because my power supply was shite, but after upgrading PSU all was fine.
This is why I buy things like this at best buy doe. If I fry it, I can just exchange for a new one within 30 days. So how do you go about flashing it, was it difficult?

Downloading!
Be sure to mirror at Gamebanana for some more exposure maybe. If you wanted to use the team.twhl account, contact Zeeba, Tetsu0 or me for the password =)
Preemptive 5 golden waffles, since I know the quality will be top-notch considering those involved.

A map that would make Nipper himself proud
Likes -multiple fun & diversely-themed areas are great -great brush construction for the most part -great use of sprites -neat gadgets like the fans and Hippo heads and such -fun music -func_vehicle Barbiemobile!!
Dislikes -texturing seems a little generic/monochrome in areas(it fits the surreal theme doe) -same as above for lighting. -some inconsistent quality, e.g., the lighthouse exterior looks fabulous, but inside blocky/plain. -scale of some things a bit weird, but again fits the surreal theme. -aformentioned dead ends, easily fixed with a crazy teleport or trapdoor maybe.
Knowing you I'm sure the gameplay is balanced and good. My favorite part was probably the nightclub and the sexy-dancing sprite lady(which was really well done btw). If you were to update this down the road, I'd like to see the organic/flesh parts(like inside the hippo) explored more, and perhaps some jump-scare stuff that I know you're good at
Glad to see you are still mapping! Hope all is well and look forward to more zeeba maps in the future.
Fun, solid, and surreal map gets 4 golden waffles in my book.

It's noticeably easier to read my small desktop text labels now(on my 23" I almost had to squint), but yeah not a huge difference. The color depth or whatever seems to be a lot better on this one though. Did you have to calibrate or you using stock presets?

Cheers Archie, those girls look absolutely beautiful
I'm coincidentally on my way to Beast Buy as I speak, to upgrayedd my cheapo 23" Acer LCD. I was thinking 27"(s) as well, although I've done absolutely zero research. Are these what are referred to as IPS panels?
I will also spring for a nice standing desk as well--which I've wanted for a long time--, so long as the prices aren't too rapey.

Just that it seems Source renders small brushes like a 1-unit-thick railing weirdly/buggily, i.e., it flashes/disappears as you move & rotate the camera. If that's the "microbrush warning", then yes

Always wanted to do a proper Hammeworld map.
This concept would go a lot further in Source engine, terms of brush resources, 3D sky(for a crazy gridspace), & displacements. One downside being source aliases small brushes weirldly--or maybe this doesn't happen any more?
I'll check this out properly soon as I can, nice work doe

DO NOT skip RAD!!!
Also recommend using Sledge and VHLT Compile Tools.
Thanks for generously including all your source material, as your entry now doubles as a deluxe tutorial

Galaxy Quest is easily one of my favorite movies. He will be missed.
RIP

Also that keyboard is hawt(and not cheap). Was looking at those and the Razer Chromas... very nice!
I got one of these last night but not sure how I feel about it yet.. I'll probably buy a second one if this one passes muster.
