Granted they did not have any bad blocks or anything so we popped them back in and all is good, but if a drive drops out of RAID0 you're done.

Congratz on making the leap. Arch is one of the best distros to fiddle around with. Haven't seen the x.org window manager in years im more than used to just the terminal interface.
Yeah once you go deep enough there's pretty much everything for everyone, and if there isn't you can make it yourself. Also performance compared to other OS'es is off the hook. Debian (my distro of choice) consumes virtually 0 resources when idle.

Got a Steelseries Xai which im quite happy with, granted i had to RMA one because of a faulty sensor and it seems that this is quite a problem with SS mice in general. Before that i had a Logitech G1 which still works to this day, but man is that thing loud as hell, the replacement for it is the G100 ?

Compile tools and Hammer have no idea between the relation of 2 maps whether they are interconnected or not.
This is just the game engine keeping track of things as you move between the levels. If you kill a monster then go forward a level and come back the monster should not spring back to life, the engine keeps track.

I liked TF2 when you didn't have silly weapons - swords, shields, fish, piss and many more. To me it unbalances the game. The medic update was probably the only good one which added payload and some useful weapons. Valve didn't put jars of piss in CS or any other game, i hoped they had the courtesy to keep TF2 enjoyable for those of us who came from CS and other fps'es and not litter it with nonsense. Its really hard to explain actually why i don't like it. The best i could do is CS never had major updates like this and it was great, i expected them to treat TF2 the same way it was a more elaborate and fun game to start with in the first place over CS, more choices and everything. Items ruined it for me.

Had my good old SSD laying around with 7 on it, since it was from an old machine it didn't work on this one and i thought its time to see if 8 is usable. My laptop still needs a SSD treatment so that will get 8 too someday.
@Stojke: Linux Mint is in my sights too, ive been playing around with Elementary OS Luna for some time and also found it nice to use.

The thing with the colors is the way you choose them. I want a simple RGBA slider not some hue, saturation thing. I only liked dark colors in 7, but they look terrible here, you cant even see the window title if you go black.
Start menu is essential for me, its 1 Click, Type, Enter access to everything i need, classicshell is good for that, just the default W8 search that is bound to that field will take some getting used to.
I have doubts about W10, they are changing a lot of things which will probably make it a flop. I know you have to improve in some way or the other, but 7/10 people just want the same thing just newer (W7 interface on W8 kernel)
I hope one day i will be able to make the step to Linux and be done with M$.

I gave mine some last year for xmas Disassembled everything, washed everything with high proof alcohol (174 proof) it has never looked so good, even though i don't use it myself now it needed love. 2 of my servers need some loving as well

Well to be honest, im only going on them since they were crap some time ago, pretty much get one if you need to see an image from your pc. That was 5-6 years ago. Since then they really have never popped up on my radar, maybe they are no longer the cheap-o monitor brand. Looking at the price difference it seems you are getting the same monitor for less money. Im not discouraging you from getting them.

Color calibrated and everything, probably even a 10bit panel, you need a Quadro to take full advantage. For most its not worth it though, just an option.

Yes, but its not sacrifice its just how the technology works. To put it simply: TN (Twisted nematic) panel = High speed, bad color/angles. VA (Vertical alignment) panel = Moderate speed, good color/angles. IPS/PLS/S-IPS and any other IPS (In plane swtiching) panel = Slow, great color/angles.
You simply cant drive an IPS panel at 144Hz.
The PB278Q falls into a more professional category, to me it looks better than any Samsung or Viewsonic, but that's a taste thing. Dell makes great displays that many prof's use, if you are not yet set on getting the Asus'es id recommend taking a look at Dell's lineup something like U2713H.

G-sync is a thing you have to try for yourself, i bet its as amazing as it sounds.
@Striker tearing occurs even if you have more Hz available then the actual running framerate, for example: game is running at 79 fps and say ive got a 120hz panel i will still get tearing because a GPU might spit a frame out while the monitor is refreshing the screen. If you want no tearing you need to lock your fps to multiples of the Hz you have available 30 60 120, that way you ensure that a frame comes out of the GPU when the monitor is about to start a refresh cycle, basically V-sync at 120hz which lessens the mouse lag you get from V-sync at 60hz, but its still V-sync. What G-Sync does is lets the GPU decide when to refresh the display, its similar to having V-sync at random rates (86, 65 etc...) but without the annoying mouse lag. By now your brain just ignores tearing when it happens, you just notice it when you look for it, but its always there it happens very very often.
And the other monitor is 60hz, 75hz panels are rare these days.
@Archie If you can't stand 2 different monitors then your'e in a really bad spot, from personal experience i can say ive survived with a 120hz monitor, but when you get to use a proper IPS its very hard to not notice how bad the colors are on the fast TN panels. If you are doing graphical work (which you are as much as i know) get good quality IPS panels, you will be far more happy in the long run.

There is a trade for speed you lose quality. If this is not your only monitor then yes get a fast panel and enjoy the smoothness, if not then you want an IPS panel for sure.
Ive got a similar setup, 120hz for gaming and an IPS monitor for work. The difference in color and view angles is like night and day.

Depends on what you need it for, if its just gaming then i would say go for PG278Q and see how g-sync works for yourself, i heard people talking it was amazing. However PG278Q has a TN panel that means image quality and view angles are going to suffer compared to an IPS/PLS panel and quite a bit.

Tet is right, lighting in gs is simple. Its just precomputed radiosity (rad). It is possible to bake lighting, the only problem is that the player will be fullbright or black.

Imagine this, a pin on the motherboard breaks (Intel), unless it was a power supply pin you are out of luck. AMD however you just stick a pin in the socket and you are good to go.
GPU's have come a long way since the 8000 series days and AMD no longer has issues. But anyway this is a common thing, people get bad luck with Nvidia they say AMD is better and vice versa.

There is the cheaper option - AMD. Can't tell you much about it because i never had an AMD cpu or gpu, but i heard it makes for a good budget gaming rig. FX-8350 costs as much as an i5 and has 8 cores if you decide to render things, albeit they are not truly 8 core as they say, but it performs admirably. Its also a tad on the hot side, but when have ever AMD cpu's been cool

Judging by what you have now it will be a long time so get a 4770K and you will be happy for at least another 5 years, even more if the technological advancement continues to decline as we reach the 1 nm mark.
Ive had a q6600 and 560ti for 5 years and i can still play most of the games on decent settings on 1080p.
Ask Archie for his old rig, maybe he will give it to you

Yeah and as Stojke suggested throw those crap roccats out the window. Get a Logitech mouse, even the cheapest ones will last you forever and its not like you are going to need more than 800dpi anyway. Steelseries were good until they stopped producing Xai.
Audio from integrated devices will be of average quality. Getting headphones from a dedicated headphone company is always a better choice.

Its a preference thing, i find it that if the resolution is 1080p and its over 24 inches its just a small TV at that point. I would only recommend going over if you need 1440p or higher.
Of the top of my head i don't have any particular monitor in mind, LG makes decent affordable IPS'es.

If so get a Haswell core i5 since you won't be getting any benefit from an i7. I can't tell what kind of a panel that monitor uses, but from the looks of it its TN which is utter crap for colors, better put in the money for a 120hz panel that will make your games run smoother than a baby's ass or get an IPS panel that your eyes will enjoy looking at.
Swap that WD Green for something better, like WD Black or Sea Barracuda. A 120gb SSD is now borderline in terms of "enough space", strongly consider 200+ gb

Not sure about the regulations in your country, but where i live you need to have whats called a "fiscal board" that sits in between your printer and pc that records all the transactions. It drives me mad when i have to use a Windows Server 2012 machine, its just not intuitive and slows down productivity.
Im probably gonna go for it on my desktop, but im going to start converting to Linux at some point.
Try SpaceSniffer or TreeSize to see whats on the drive.

I have similar crashes on LoL, i think ive narrowed them down to my GPU, but can't confirm.
