Story goes like so:
Just like every other Half-Life mod, you are still Gordon Freeman. You need to sneak into Black Mesa research site Alpha. You need to because after the "incident" where you created the portal to Xen, the scientists and marines teamed up to study the many new lifeforms that the world has encountered.
 Gordon starts off in the basement building. You stray in there hoping to "join" the research team, but really you must stop it at all costs because the marines and scientists have NO CLUE what the hell they are getting themselves into.
//This started as an idea in lunch today. If anyone is interested in helping out it'd be great. I need some ideas as of storyline, map layout, and I need someone experienced in ascripted sequences. I wish to have some skits where the experiments go terribly wrong.
Also.. im not going to be too strict here, if anyone has an idea, i'll consider it lol.//

Wow. Yeah Guys im sorry. But i tried a new map and it worked.
But the entire thing is trivial. I still dont understand why my old map didnt have any light. Oh well. Thanks for the help anyway.

I am running rad. I know that for a fact.
I placed some combine soldiers in there, and i can see them. They appear rather dark, but i just cant see the gound ,walls, or ceiling.

H guys I was just experimenting with the new hammer, and I was making a box-room with a gun and a light in it (and of course, a playerstart entity) When I compile and play the level, its completley dark. I checked every entity, they arent clipping any walls, or anything.
Its a regular yellow light. and I tried light spot and light environment and nothing seems to be working. I just have no light!
Any ideas?

I test my maps using the 1.4 vers of HL.
Even if i did get the sentences.txt, modify it correctly, and use it im my mod, would it work with steam?

FINALLY someone actually tried to answer my question... not well.. but it is answered. Yes thats the problem. And i even tried it with a new map and i get the same thing. For my tests, in order for my scientists to show up, i gotta type in console: mp_allowmonsters 1
then restart
says some jibberish along the lines of allowmonsters set as one.. would it work if i put "+mp_allowmonsters 1" in my parameters when i compile?

Im making a mod and I want my scientist to say special stuff for my training map... Such as: "Here, Gordon, on the table over there is your Suit. Put it on, and follow me to the next room." Now before I have the scientist move, I want him to talk. I have looked in the tutorials, and it told me to find the sentences.txt in my Half-Life/valve/sounds folder, and edit it with a custom sound .wav or something. But it (sentences.txt) is not there.
Is there anywhere I can get a sentences.txt file? Or do I need to extract something? OR am I not looking in the right place?
I searched my entire computer for the file and I guess I dont have it, because my search came up with empty results. Any help please?

I dont really think you get it.... I want to map for single player mode but whenever i test its just in multiplayer... Like say if i jump off the roof and die, i would respawn.. i want to end the game like normall...

I cant find the solution anywhere. I have looked in mosly all of the half life tutorials, and i am still having the same problem. I am basically stuck in multiplayer mode. I try to insert monster_barney and monster_human_grunts, but they dont show up when i play. Is there some parameter that i need to include in my compiling? Because this is starting to get aggrevating..

Have you tried just having the fan move independantly, and making the belt a conveyor? just like a bunch of different brushes in the shape..

I had sticky stuff in my keyboard once.. actually just last week.. turned out to be DR.Pepper and Pop-Tart crumbs.. took all the keys out, and attacked it with a toothbrush.. Its all good now.

well.. thats basically one fo the problems is the textures.. wich goes along with my creaivity block.. er.. cant you re download hammer.. but that would take effort.. and time to set up the compiler.. so heh thanks anyway.

Making my map, using the computer prefabs in it. They dont fit in with the rest of the map. Can someoby make me a computer or 2 that would fit in with de_space? Got any free time? Please i ran out of creative juciness. :zonked:

I resign. my map will not work.. just wont.. oh well. Works ok on OpenGL, but since judge uses software... its not worth finishing. so good luck to everyone else.

I did experiment. And im sorry if i didnt specify that im not testing on steam. But i heard that the judge tests in sftware mode so i need to get the null textures from the .wad pack. Horray yet another thing i have to do :-p. As always you have been a big help, and CP, now i WILL try stuff before resorting to the forums. Thanks

darn. my first compo, and im having such a big problem that i need to seek professional help from youz guys'. ANYWAY i compiled my map. No vis, no rad, (im making the eiffel tower here would take hellova long time for vis/rad to run) and i spawn in the level, and i see like...halk of my structures, and the floor in the back corner is black.. er i get the short surfaces message up top left of my screen, it was around 700 at one point. Any way. its really aggrevating so i tried to turn all my brished into func_walls and i think it got worse. Any help is surely appreciated. :|
i feel like a noob :confused:

..omg yea it does... with all the entities hidden, you cant select them. So by selecting everything in the map (entities hidden) you have all your brushes.

kudos on the bridge.. so far my ehtire eiffel tower is just func_wall and some loghts thrown in.. now just make some more supports.. toss in the dreaded skybox, and violia! :P

ok.. heres the problem
its a space station map, and therefore the sky brush is actually seperating the glass from the window, so see another part across a distance of the void.. so just create a wall?? can you elaborate on that... (lol i dont get it :zonked: )

Make it a func wall.. But use the same layout as a func breakable. I.E. render mode - texture, fx amount whatever you want.. 90-100 usually.

I got a question about using the sky brushes as windows. In my de_space map,http://cariad.co.za/twhl/mapvault_map.php?id=2299, i have windows on the sides of my hallways looking out into space. You can see the other parts of the map, but something about the sky brush, you can see through the walls through the window. But it only happens to a certain extent then the other parts of the map totally dissappear.(from view). Anyone know how to fix this problem?

I do not have an answer to this (sorry) but i have another question related to this. Do you need to have every texture you used in your map to be texture lit? or can you just have the ceiling. In de_space, i want to have the ceiling be the texture lighting and im not sure if thats enough. (hence i have the same ceiling texture for my entire map)

The Terrorists will be the info_player_deathmatch enties.
