Hey all,

First journal.

I am here to just post about the exciting new release and update to my first ever finished map for any Goldsrc game.

You can view it here: http://scmapdb.wikidot.com/map:stixsworld

Oyea...I am also working on updating my above map again to v2 whilst also making my second map for the same mod...

My second map will be a map where all you can do is press a button that spawns enemies into the middle of map human and alien AI and well it will show you the badass new AI system given in v4.0 of the mod...

Players will not be able to interact at all with the AI...instead they will be forced to watch to see who wins, alien AI or human AI...and well who ever wins the map will end...but it will just be a map that does sumthing no other map does...purely demonstrate the capabilities of SC v4.0 AI system...

Those that state that the map Stadium 3 already does this are mistaken greatly...because in that map players still have complete control over everything...in my map players just have control of when the mega battle begins...

I also would like to point out that the IP:PORT for a server by me is now 69.31.15.225:27015 and it is for the mod Sven Co-op so yea...

Alright, I've been trundling away in Hammer for the past week trying to bring my Wetwork remake back to life since the first version I made in hammer had a massive brushcount, I'm getting there slowly. So far I have the south tower done 100% (excluding small window adjustments and textures)

I've now started working on the deck, so far the worktime on the tower was somewhere around 5-6 months (100% brush-based, even has both floors with all the details too) so I'm expecting the deck worktime to be around 1-2 months, and the north tower 2-3. So I can't say this is coming soon just yet, but this WILL be finished. The brushcount was HALVED with me giving it a makeover.

I can't model, and I'm going to need models for this map otherwise the brushcount will kill hammer completely, so if you have some spare time and feel like helping me out please get in touch with me, It'd be greatly appreaciated! It's for CSS, since that is the closest to COD4.

I'd like to thank Archie for the awesome textures, and please ignore the deck as it is very much still a WIP.

Today I decided that I want to do a different kind of mod than I had planned for after Colony 42. I originally wanted the story of a Gun store employee taking revenge on the marines who killed his boss, But I think that the NPC choice of citizens, soliders, cops, and a sniper or two would be done a lot better on source, and I long ago found out that what I planned as my first source mod had already been done to death (Rebel citizen escaping City 17 after the uprising)And I need a source project to plan and refine for when I can acsess steam again. So, anyway, I decided to look into coding a simple NPC (An added female form of barney to go fix the bug where custom voices go back to the original pain and death sounds) I may look for someone who can verify that It will do what I want later on, but only after I finish Colony 42. Look out coding world, I'm planning a trip! /Long journal

As I toured the city of Taipei, I realized that I was touring the personal computer capital of the world.

I saw the headquarter of ASUS and Gigabyte, among other highly recognizable companies for hardware enthusiasts.

It was like a kid in the candy store.

Too bad that I didn't get a chance to get off the car and visit those companies.

Time to learn how to use the source particle stuff. I've been putting it off far to long and it seems easy to learn. No doubt the extra visual candy it brings will be welcome.

So, I found my dad on Facebook just now, and I can't decide if I should contact him or not. I haven't seen him in almost exactly 10 years and I had actually forgotten what he looks like.

He's never called or visited during these 10 years, despite the fact that we live in the same town. No birthday cards or anything either. I sort of feel like.. if you have kids, you should be there for them, it shouldn't be up to them to make contact.

Still, he's my dad. Dilemma :P

Well, isn't this typical... I get an entire week off, and I seem to have temporarily lost the will to map. I'm so close to finishing the map I'm on, and I can't bring myself to do it. Any ideas on how I can get back on track?

So I have returned from Taiwan.

It was a nice trip, minus the five hours of screaming my son had on the airplane on the way there.

One thing I noticed in Taiwan was that gaming is taken very seriously there. There are prime-time television programs devoted to gaming. And I see plenty of Counter-Strike commercials on TV.

I also saw this gigantic billboard of Warhammer at a popular strip mall:

I done been away for a little while. Away from TWHL, anyway. I'm still tweaking Canyon_Redux (it's a sickness, I tell ya!) and it's probably a week or two away yet.

In other news, though, it seems that the links to my maps broke while I wasn't looking. I was using an ".htaccess" file to redirect all download requests through the download counting code on my website -- and I suspect my hosting provider has changed something which broke the mechanism.

I'll look into it further over the weekend -- but for now, my links should all be working again!

Sorry for the inconvenience! ;-)

Well, I just found a new model site, and I managed to find a Deagle that may be useful for Colony 42. It does'nt look quite like what I was looking for, but it uses HD HEV hands and it is a Desert Eagle, so I guess It'll have to do until I get some software and learn how to hack and rescale models. The site is the HIT Model Depot, http://www.hitmodel.half-lifecreations.com/filedb/ Perhaps you may find something you like there, It's got everything from Weapons to NPCs to Gibs.
EDIT: On second thought, the deagle is'nt really that good. I doubt I'll use it, But I'm leaving this up for the link.

ANY self respecting mapper will love this short.

Watch World Builder by Bruce Branit.

I think it deserves its own journal. When I saw this, I was deeply inspired as a mapper... and its funny how the experience is so relative. If only we had that kind of technology, I don't think I'd ever leave my room.

I am now the proud owner of a brand new Playstation 3 console thingie. I won it in that competition that Ant didn't win, as a voters prize. It also came with a game called Tiny-Huge Island, which I assume is related to Mario LittleBigPlanet, which has nothing to do with Mario, except that it's a sidescrolling platformer. It's pretty crappy, so I'm planning to sell it to Strider and buy RE5 instead.

Recently I went on a used game buying spree, from Ebay, and certain trading stores. Here's the results of my search:

That's:
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time - $10
Beyond Good and Evil - $8 + $6 postage
Timesplitters 2 - $16 + $4
Command and Conquer: Tiberian Sun - $10
Myst: Masterpiece Edition - $2
GTA Vice City - $16
Deus Ex: Invisible War - $12

Not pictured:
Golden Sun: The Lost Age - $10 (no box)
Neverwinter Nights - $2 (crappy "classic edition" box)
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune - $25 + $6 (in the mail)

Project progress (see previous journal):
The 11 is now reduced to 7.
53% to announcement.
21,500 lines. (Yeah, I haven't done much lately)

Luck just so happens to be coming right at my way, first i managed to compile the hl2 code alone, and now I've sucessfully created a placeholder weapon for my mod.

Ignore the fullbright map.

EDIT: Watch for further journals as i will be posting wip models for my mod, ect ect.

Merged journal:

Guess what, i just got a new model for my (placeholder) weapon, the "Powner weaponz"

It looks quite ugly, but hey, i didn't assign any uv's to it, and it turned out pretty well for a untextured weapon!

EDIT: just a quick note, all the coding, modeling, and mapping was done by me, i didn't get any help other then setting up visual c++ to work with hl2.

--------------- Old Journal -----------------

I worked for several hours, and i finally got the message I've been waiting for.
Build: 2 succeeded, 0 failed, 0 up-to-date, 0 skipped
m0p deserves all the credit, i gave up after i got about 4 different linking errors and then a miracle happened, he found the solution.

Man those have got to be the most frustrating hours of my life.

Thanks m0p, for kindly guiding me through to the end :D

No, it's not a animation, it's pretty darn accurate, i had to spend several minutes trying to get it correctly looking down the sights.
