Well, my new HDD seems to have died. My computer says it's not sensing any operating system, and any attempts to reinstall it fails, telling me there's an input/output failure in the drive. Right now I'm working of an Ubuntu Live Disk. :

Happy owner of a Gainward GT 440 1GB videocard, just in time for my low-mid range quad-yearly GPU swap.

It's funny how 5 years ago the roughly same, then-high-end X1900 XT needed an extra power cable, while producing the electricity bill of a washing machine and vacuum cleaner altogether - and that card seems like yesterday. I must be getting old.

Dr. Amazing's Reviews of Awesome

My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic : It's About Time

So I wasn't going to make a review but I think this episode has enough material to review. Overall I thought this episode was just ok. Nothing Amazing (if you know what I mean). My main problem with this episode is the paradox created. Why did Twilight even go back in time anyway? She couldn't worry about what Future Twilight said because there needs to have gone back in time in the first place! Plus when she went back in time couldn't she have just said "DON'T WORRY!"? How about not even going back in time? If I keep thinking about this then my head will explode. I will stop thinking about it, therefore it ceases to exist.
6/10

Note: This is my attempt to talk about MLP without "pushing it in your face".

Another Note: I'm writing this from my 3DS because my computer is potato.

Well, after all that crap about My Little Pony, I decided to watch it, to see why it has such an avid following.
Frankly, I don't see what all the fuss is about.
I'll watch it some more over the next week, maybe I'll get to the end of the second series, but so far it just seems to be another children's show.
I'll update this journal once I've watched to the end of the second series with my opinion of the show as a whole.

[Edit] Another thing that happened, on Saturday I got access to my older brother's laptop. Not content with simply fraping him, I went onto YouTube and subscribed, liked, and commented favourably on a load of videos of the type found on this list, particularly number one. Now that's all that shows up in his suggestions list.

Dr. Amazing's Mods of Awesome 2:

Mod name: Super Mario Star Road
Author: Skelux
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_JBdxcnyxeQ

Bet you weren't expecting this. A Super Mario 64 mod. When i first saw this I had a Nostalgia-gasm. After all Super Mario 64 is one of my favorite games of all time. This is like Super Mario 64 2
Fun Fact: Super Mario 64 2 was actually being developed for the N64DD until it was canceled in 1999.
Overall this mod was kind-of hard but that's probably because I was playing it thru an emulator using a PS3 controller. Speaking of emulator I suggest using Project64. There are a few things you have to do to get it running but it's all in the readme. Don't worry about being able to run it because my shitty computer could run it just fine.
The gameplay was spot-on. It really felt like it was something Nintendo would of released. That's all i have to say about the gameplay.
The Music was amazing (and I would know). There's over 50 new tracks.

I'll give this mod an 8/10

NOTE: There are some graphical glitches in it while playing it through Project64 but it wasn't even close to game breaking.

I just hope this doesn't go down the shitter halfway through. Loved the original Outcast, and this looks uncomfortably sexy.

Ok so today was the third day for my SAT in Language Arts.
I had to make an extended response to a story where a girl had to overcome her shyness to make a new friend.

So I wrote about My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.

U mad Archie?

I have recently learned about the complicated ramification of the Unix systems. So Linux is just a Unix-derived system, which has lots of distributions itself, such as Ubuntu.

But when even Ubuntu has more ramifications known as "editions"...

I just got this from a Gamebanana Admin.

Hi Gents,
Congrats on your winning entries! It was a great turn out and it was difficult to get the places right. Sorry for the delay - my folks were in town for 3 weeks so I wasn't able to get much work done.
Anyway, here are the prizes - let me know if you'd like the cash via Paypal or I can get you games via STEAM.
Corvalho: $70 cash + Ripe3
cR45h: $50 cash + Ripe2
ColonelBD: $25 cash + Ripe1
Rimrook: $25 cash + Ripe1
OdoyleRules: $15 cash
Youpala: $15 cash
yumyumshisha: $10 cash
Doktor Haus: $10 cash
Boba Fett: $5 cash
Cheers!

ColonelBD and I tied for fourth. Considering that my entry was the ONLY goldsource entry, and all others were for TF2 or some other current-gen or source game. That just puts a smile on my face. There were quite a few source entrants that were good but didn't place.

This is the winner right here.

I was at a hostage situation today. It was at Diageo bottling plant, just 10 mins from my house and the alarm bell went off at 10am sharp, shortly after I had arrived. There was a police armed response team, two fire engines and two ambulances on the scene within minutes and CCTV footage captured the gunman (an employee at the plant) throwing around another employee at gun-point because the other employee had allegedly slept with his wife.

Why was I there? The CCTV footage was mine, prepared last night in After Effects.

It was a big corporate training exercise - none of the staff had been told it was happening and I, along with three other camera ops were hired to film it all and I was also asked to make the aforementioned CCTV footage. The plant was evacuated and the management team were driven to an off-site location several miles away to go into action-meetings (Which I was also filming). They had liasons from all the emergency services and the entire event was treated as a real incident, so everything was by the book and entirely serious. There was something very cool about filming a meeting in which terms like "flank routes" "choke-points" and "structural integrity" were thrown around without a hint of irony.

Also there's just something awesome about filming police in full tactical gear.

The gunman was detained at 13:35 and there were no serious casualties. The hostage was treated for minor injuries sustained during the police raid.
