Entity func_door (-6844.00 1661.00 -871.00) leaked!
Source water does not render when there is a leak. -- Find your leak.

I cant help but notice "NODRAW on terrain surface!" is there too.. I do not normally get that, although I'm sure it's nothing.

/me wants a source one too, I've 'started' making textures of my own and I'd like to see how they fare when I have a theme I want to accomplish..

Of course, whoever makes the final base map really needs to keep to the usual hammer grid sizes.. nothing too odd shapen'..

And.. making a single texture isn't much of a contest :x

Uh, that's why you experiment.. the tutorials are there to give you an idea of how the entity works and show you a general usage. To fix a matter as easy as that does not deserve a tutorial.
thats why i made a tutorial.
You've wasted your time.

Also, you fail to grasp that this place is here to 'guide' you in the modding process... and not do everything for you. We will not convert models for you, we will not code for you, or do anything without proper media to base our judgment off of. To say "um, hate to break it to you, but you can still close the door." just pisses me off.. Assuming you care enough about mapping to keep doing it, that is easily and quickly figured out. Mappers need to figure that out themselves, that's why it's not mentioned.

If you've come to twhl to learn how to map and not be TOLD how to map, by all means.. stay.. otherwise this isn't the place for you.

Also, like we've said. Do NOT ask for custom provided material unless we see some screenshots or something. If you're too worried about a half-made shitty map to show us, you're obviously not good enough to run a mod. Besides, you dont say you're making a HL2 mod and then say you dont know how the story goes. That's.. discouraging.

I said to penguin last night.. there could be accomplice competition awards.. heh

In the event a few people want to collaboratively make a competition entry, they all get shared glory.. So, rather than a single person getting the first place award, all of them get "first place shared" awards.

This is a bit optional I guess.. but it might encourage compo entries from those too "eh?" about their mapping to make an entry on their own..

Source water works if you just connect them together and make sure the textures have the same alignment on the top of the two water brushes. So, if I read your sentence correctly, yes yours should work.

in Competition 24: Map from Layout Post #235354
I decided to type this up so people could correctly interpret the rules here..
Does that mean we just make the layout of a map using the dev/dev textures pretty much?
-'Map from layout' says that this should be your layout.. It needs to be a fully textured/litten map, as long as it adheres to the the layout. This also means you can scale it as large as you need to, it just needs to look vaguely like the 'shape' of the drawing.
Wait, so the green areas, we are allowed to expand with them but they aren't allowed to be walkable? Then what the heck is the point?
Add a pretty view.. a small patio.. a joke.. something that will visually make your map look better or interesting. This basically asks you to make minor adjustments to the map, just nothing drastic. This sticks to veery small space additions, little nooks, or a closet. If this does become drastic, it's in 'looks'.. You must restrict the player from being able to walk it. This was done to clear up peoples disliking of sticking -strictly to this layout, while also giving us the chance to see creativity as to how people look at this layout.

-Although the layout is nice and blocked up for our viewing pleasure, your entry doesn't have to adhere strictly to it.. Add supports or smaller obsticals in the way of things. They've loosened the leash for this layout.

-Just because the layout shows a stairway doesn't means they have to be readily used at all times. You can make them designed for later use. For instance.. add something that stops you from using it until later in your entry. This is essential because the rules mention a 'story'.

-Be sure to get interesting with the stairs too.. Dont go about only using the conventional means to get around to places. Depending on the situation, they can be problematic to fit into an area. For source people. you can use the physics here.. The rules only say it has to be traversable. This means you can even stack boxes if you want to.

When the rules mention a story, this doesn't mean you have to have to write a fully winded out story based on this layout. This boils down to "Have a goal, and a reason as to why you're doing it." - You only need a plot

in Your favorite weapon! Post #230193
Perfect dark did have some of the best weapons..

1. N-Bomb -- The black whole grenade

2. Laptop gun -- Converts into a sentry gun, kickass.

3. The Dragon.. -- Machine gun/Proximity mine, you would throw it and then the enemies would go to pick it up.. boom

4. The Reaper.. -- Horribly inaccurate laser spray/grinder.. sometimes usefull

5. The Farsight -- That weapon that had the x-ray view to fire/kill people through walls

6. Psychosis Gun -- The injector that could be set to "lethal injection", or you could inject enemies with something that would make them fight people for you.. usefull

I was also a fan of the ion cannon beacon from Command and Conquer Renegades.. although that was a bit of a crappy game

in One button multiple doors + Post #226555
oh.. hrmm.

Try using a trigger_relay to fix it up.

http://twhl.co.za/entityinfo.php?ent=trigger_relay&game=1

You need to set the multi-manager to trigger that, and then make that target the door. You have to test and figure out if your closed/open door is on or off.

Example.. You figure out that your open door is the 'on' selection of the "trigger state" field of the trigger_relay. So.. when you trigger the trigger_relay and the door is open, it will proceed to close it, otherwise it will go un-affected. (remember: figure out if the open door is 'on' or 'off')

So.. you figure that entity out (I know thats the one you need).. and use it where needed.

thats a wierd one to explain :x

1. Dont put a breakable object textured with nodraw. If you want an invisible breaking object, make the object ANY texture you want, open the properties, switch the texture mode field to 'texture', and then make the render amount '0'.

2. Make sure ALL of the sides of that func_breakable are textured with the brick wall texture.

3. Wierd? Change the lights around those black areas into light_dynamics and see if it does it right.

You all spend so much time on a mapping site for an 8 year old game that nobody cares about!
Notice the shiny forum named 'Source Engine Discussion'.. That is by no means 8 years old.. Even if theres a lack of source tutorials, theres plenty of people here to ask. and then if noone cares about it, why are all of these people here? Snarkpit and the other mapping sites all still have a strong HL1 mapping base as well.
Leave twhl and get a life
Just because we're here doesn't mean we breath mapping... Satchmo is a prime example. He's a doctor and is well on his way to having a kid.
