It's not a matter of reviewing, it's a matter of contacting each other properly, which is proving to be a major problem in the judging process.

Untill Grim & me manage getting in touch and deciding on the final top 3, there will be no results.
To actually get in touch in any IM app, one of us has to either get up very early or stay up late, as we live on pretty much opposite sides of the globe. The fact that we're both students and have school in the morning makes that impossible on weekdays (last weeks of the first semester over here don't enlighten things either). That's why we'll probably have to wait till' the weekend.

So quit your bloody whining and please bear with us. It's not like we're sitting on our asses deliberately delaying things just for the fuck of it. :/

25 minutes is fairly short anyway, big & complex maps can take as long as 2 days, depending on your CPU.

Just hang in there, Grim's had problems with accessing some of his Steam games. Haven't gotten in touch with him yet, though he should've had them resolved by now and played through all the entries.

Stay tuned, we should be done very soon.

As for these i7s, aren't Quad Cores actually much cheaper? Why get 3 for a higher price?

in Guitar Heroism and Rocking Bands Post #258616
It's actually quite fucking hilarious to beat on a plastic guitar or drum set, and if one has any common instrument knowledge at all, its kinda fun to be able to pretend you're playing your favorite song, even though you're just pressing buttons.
You don't play Guitar Hero to pretend you're playing a real guitar (I certainly hope you don't... Saw) just like you don't play DDR to learn how to dance. You play it because its fun in its own right.
The games are just fun. Damn fun.
Playing games like that casually for fun and grinding them till' you're perfect at everything are two different things. I think the latter is a waste.
I happen to be quite skilled on guitar as well as a plastic one. Nothing annoys me more than when people say "LERN REAL GITAR FAGS". They make guitar players look like assholes.
You were probably pushed to playing GH because of being already good at the real thing. Many actual bands/guitar players nowadays are like that. Having, to some extent, mastered their actual instruments, they just play GH as a fun, music-induced way of passing time where they can utilize some of the skills real playing has taught them.
A soldier doesn't see someone playing CoD4, get all pissed of and yell "KIL REAL PPL FAGS!"
What Potatis said.

in Guitar Heroism and Rocking Bands Post #258603
Madcow's recent journal revived the question that's been in my head for quite a while now.

Personally, I really can't grasp the point of mastering Guitar Hero, Rock Band or any other music-related game, simulating actual instruments. Even if actually fun, spending excessive ammounts of time on it is, putting it mildly, weird. You could toss in another ~100$ and grab a, say, used guitar for the price of the equipment needed to play those games. You could be learning to play an actual instrument instead grinding the ways of button-mashing and switch-flipping.

In short: If you actually have the time, effort and money, why stick with fake stuff instead of the real thing?

Enlighten me, please. :rly:

in Weird TF2 performance Post #258029
I've been playing TF2 for a while and am experiencing fairly poor performance, despite my PC still being pretty new.

Specs:
Quad Core @ 2.4GHz
2Gb DDR2 800Mhz RAM
GeForce 8500 GT, 256Mb
400 GB 10000 RPM SATA

With all graphic settings maxed out (AA, VS, etc.), running on 1400x900 gives me a poor and almost unplayable 15-20fps. Going down to 1024x768 doesn't help too much either, gaining me another 5-10 fps.

I may be wrong, but shouldn't a computer like this run any Source game at best graphics without problems?
Updating GPU and BIOS drivers did nothing. What gives? :<

The ability to fly or infinite stamina + the ability to run extremely fast + ability to jump to extreme hights (think sv_gravity 100). Dunno why exactly, but the dreams of flight I get often are the most uplifting ones ever. Also, it'd be awesome to replace your usual evening stroll with an evening flight over the city, or a run 'rond the streets. Not to mention practical uses, etc.

Telekinesis also sounds like a neat ability.
