Yeah, we'll make a wad of only the used custom textures, so as to not waste additional texture memory, (and so the wad doesn't reach 30 mb at the end of this project).

I've had the exact same problem ministeve mentioned... but with FireFox, and not with the TWHL page. It's one of our local pages here.. in FF it starts stretching to the right, and down...and just never stops until you close it... but when I tried it on a diff PC with FF again, there wasn't a problem... I dunno, maybe it's the version? Or maybe I should reinstall... bleh.

We can make a splash screen and so on for the WON version :P
and it'll be easier to install that way, and be more flexible etc...
Btw, with the previous TWHLmix I tried running it as a minimod, but I got some "bad SVC 00" error... but it ran A.O.K. in the 'valve' folder... pretty weird :o

About the texturing, if anyone wants to add a custom texture, let me know... I will add them to the twhlmixtex.wad ... I'd sure hate to have to retexture some of my map completely with hl stuff... :( I didn't add much new ones myself... just about 9, and I'm not thinking of adding anymore... I just didn't find appropriate ones in the hl wads...
Also, I have two versions of my textures: one with 512xsomething pixel resolution and one with 256xsomething ones... which ones should I use?

1. Read the page Jahzel linked to
2. Read the tutorials titled "In The Beginning", 1 through 6
3. There are example RMF files with every one of those tuts
4. Then, when you're done with those, you may want to move to the more advanced tutorials, that's why there are categories are.
5. Then, if you wish you could also look at this piece of junk: http://twhl.co.za/mapvault_map.php?id=1672

Take your time in following these steps... Try to understand the steps in the tutorials. If you still have any questions, ask them in this thread, I guess... If you have any trouble setting up Hammer, I think there is a tut on that here aswell. There is also a link to Zoner's Compile tools, required for compiling your maps.

So I suppose you should start with "Read Me First", then move on to "Setup Guide: Hammer", then "Compiling Introduced", and then all the "In The Beginning"s...

This error, I think, can be fixed in two ways:
a) a "texture axis perpendicular to face" error in the alt+p dialog needs to be fixed
or
b) it is possible that you messed up a solid (a brush), probably caused by vertex manipulation, or clipping, or transforming...

Here's Tommy's description:

Malformed face normal
Description: The texture alignment of a visible face is unusable
Howto Fix: If using Worldcraft, do a check for map problems and fix any occurences of 'Texture axis perpindicular to face'. Coordinates are usually given, use them if map problems cannot find the problem brush.

Zoner's tools are what you need, they are not complicated if u set them up in Hammer's Build Programs... after you install ZHLT, just change the executables in hammer from the qrad, qbsp, qcsg, and qvis to the hlrad, hlbsp, hlcsg, and hlvis... they are located in the ZHLT folder... simple as that :)

One of the dreams I had, I seem to remember best... even though it was a long time ago... I came home one day, only to find some cops/feds (don't remember exactly) snooping around. One of them (a tubby, black one with a flashlight in his hand) pointed at me and shouted something out loud, then I started running to the top of the building (15 stories) and I don't know why, but I preferred to use the stairs... So I went up to the very rooftop, and I said to myself "Oh, man, I'm sick of being in this dream, I wanna wake up" and then I jumped off of the roof and just before I hit the ground, I woke up.
Maybe not THE weirdest dream I've had, just the one I remember best....
I remember also having a dream, where I needed to take a leak, but there were no "working" toilets in the entire town... and everytime I tried to piss behind the bushes or someplace similar, there would be these two environmental protectors (both dressed up like mobsters from the first Godfather movie... don't ask why.. I don't really know) and they'd tell me how I'd be harming the poor bushes, and how they'd whack me if I pissed there....

Interesting topic indeed...
I know there are plenty of n00bs out there that flood the vaults with crap... Having made that mistake (2 crappy maps in the vault - my first map, and an unfinished version of my glass compo map... Both are pure crap) I can understand the urge that new people have to get feedback and such... But one has to learn that one can't just post EVERY piece of crap they make... They should learn... read the tutorials (at least the "In The Beginning" ones (1 through 6 if I'm not mistaken)... I couldn't say I'm an expert mapper, but I can definitely say I've got most of Hammer's stuff.... And now that Hammer 4 is out, there's a lot of new shite to add to that, lol. I hope hl2 has less problems with the render speeds though... Cause I can't model, so I use brushes to create trees etc, and it really kills the map... like you can walk through the entire map in less than half a minute, and it has 1000 wpoly.... Anyway, that was off topic and I appologise... I agree that flaming is NOT the way to tell a n00b that he's a n00b... One should first try to be kind, and helpful. If the person refuses to pay attention and disregards your advice, then I really can't blame you for getting mad :D

Dude, use func_door_rotating_instead of func_illusionary. texture it with grate1 or another one of those grate textures, and set the 'Render mode' to 'Solid' and 'FX Amount' to 255. Add an ORIGIN brush too... you do know what one is right? Ok so after you've done everything with the func_door_rotating, crate a new brush and texture it with the ORIGIN texture. Then place the brush on the side of the grate where the hinges should be. And place it in the middle of that side... then select the ORIGIN brush, hold down Ctrl, and while holding down, select the func_door_rotating. Both the ORIGIN and door brushes should be selected now. Click 'To Entity' (top right) and in the small window click Yes. Oh and um... look at the properties of the door afterwards to set it's axis. If you don't follow me much.... then see the "Doors" tutorial on this site for further reference on creating doors.

no i want to move them to the thing I want to crush using the levers, and then crush it using the button. But since the crusher can't be two different entities at the same time I am asking if someone has an idea how to achieve this with tricks. Or some other type of entity??? :confused:

Is it possible (in normal HL) to create two surfaces that can crush something when a button is pushed, and can also be moved with levers?Something like the mortars after the second gargantua in the oiginal HL... but instead of mortars I want it to be a crusher... In the orig. single player they did it with two "momentary_rot_button"s a "func_button" and a "func_mortar_field"... but the "func_mortar_field" can have it's x and y controllers and stuff.... Is it possinle to do this with crushers (func_door, func_train?)? If you know some kind of trickery for this please tell me
