In Jeff's first room, the toilet and sink emit light. Is this an error or just Jeff's idea?
This is what happens when people use textures as lights that others use as porcelain.
Is there any chance that you could find another plain whitish texture?

Without smartedit so you can see all the values.
I noticed a value called noshadows on the window prefabs, and that might be the problem with them, but I can't think of anything that would make the doors do that.
EDIT: changing the noshadows value does nothing. I've made the skybox in that area taller, so maybe there will be more light there. I dunno.

No, I only get that in that area, not on other props elsewhere.

I have cubemaps, and I've added more since I noticed the problem, thinking that may have been it. The light_env is angled to the leftmost cliff wall in the screenshot- I've used values that are 'ideal' for the skybox I'm using.

Anyone know how I can fix this? Vis has run, I have RAD on normal, and I don't think there's a leak. (Water works fine)I'm going to work on the lightmap scale and could use some tips for that, but that won't help the props be shadowed instead of fullbright.

Tips, anyone?

in portalnum > numareaportals error Post #277507
User posted image
I get this with a VIS compile, and cordon compiles, both with and without vis.
I have a hint brush not included in the cordon compiles, and 4 instances of the pwindow_01_med prefab. I'm not sure what's causing this, but if it's the prefabs, it can be fixed easily.
Can anyone tell me what the error means outside of the literal sense and how to fix it?
EDIT: I fixed it.
Note to anyone getting this error: Look for areaportals on multiple sides of an area; My problem was that I had 2 sets of windows, and the portals were on both the front wall and the one beside it, which made the engine stop working.

If you use Valve's window prefabs, make sure they're only on one wall in a visgroup, or delete the func_illusionaries and areaportals.

could not find file system dll to load
Can you play HL/the mod you are mapping for? (presumably TS)
This seems to say that the game/mod can't find the dll (which you need to have to run it)
Try reinstalling the game/mod, but first look for a dll file in the modname/cl_dlls and modname/dlls folders. If it's there, the mod is either incompatible with WON/steam HL (whichever you're using, Steam HL doesn't usually have problems with it, though) or it's corrupt and has to be reinstalled.

I don't see what this has to do with parents teaching their children to believe in god. I hope you're not implying that just because science can't explain what caused the Big Bang there has to be a god, because that's just ignorant. Not knowing something does not automatically mean there is some higher power at work.
Religious people should stop and really think about why they believe in God.
Because some force had to create the universe, and what/who caused that force to begin?
If the big bang theory is correct, what caused it?
Hence I personally believe in God. If science can find out what caused the big bang, fine. But then what caused that? We'll find out the answers in time (assuming we don't all kill each other before that) But unless you can definitvely prove to me, without a doubt, that there isn't a God, I'll still beleive, because there has to be something out there that caused everything to be set in motion, and I'd like to think that it's a benicifent inteligence.

in Creating a Custom NPC Post #276964
Try basing it off the closest NPC type you can find already coded.
Then just remove parts you don't want, add parts from other NPCs, ect.
I can't really tell you what to do in the way of actual code, though, because I have no experience either.
just getting the code for a new character up and running using a model such as the City 17 Citizen as a placeholder
If it's a companion character, use Alyx as a base. If it's more of a combat character, use barney. If it's a dialouge character, use Kleiner, Eli, Mossman or Breen. If it's an NPC instead of a main/minor character, use whatever is closest in behaviour and force.

That's all I can really contriubute. Sorry.

EDIT: It may also be worth noting that Cubbage from the NLO base was just a citizen with a unique model, type set to unique, and a different voice set than the others.

One thing, however:
w9mmarclipt.mdl
should be w_9mmarclipt
there is always an underscore between the item name and it's world, player, or view model designation (w, p, v, respectively) because that's the system valve used, and
the filesnames should be the same as the original, or else HL won't recognise your new weapon as a replacement.
You may want to put that in the feedback section for where you downloaded the skin.
