These other from Psionic look cool as well.

@Muzzie: Yeah sometimes that's true, some maps decompile better than others. And some won't decompile at all.

I decompiled the nice cliffs by bombsite B from dust 2. It doesn't look that hard to do, and the textures you use are a big part of it too, I think.

Wireframe
Filled
Textured

If you can make those V shuttles, you can certainly make stuff such as this ;)

This was mentioned a little over a year ago, and I'm wondering what everyone thinks. My thoughts:

-Models are relatively small file sizes, so bandwith/space shouldn't be a huge issue.
-They're much more useful than a prefab that anyone can make...
-TWHL user-created models only, so it would be almost impossible to flood it with trash, methinks.

What do you all think?

Discharging your static before you start touching whatever, would probably be a good idea anyway imo. Wehn you touch the frame your doing the same thing the wristlet would do. ;)

Another analogy is touching the static port before fueling at the gas...erm.. petrol station.

And for god's sake I'm not saying once you touch the frame, start fingering sockets and massaging pins and such!

Where is m0p when he's needed? :P

do it now and for free
Before you touch and sensitive components, touch first a large piece of metal, like the frame of your pc, to dischrge any static electricity.

And don't work in your socks on the carpet! :D

Sony Notebook VGN-A790
2 GHz Pentium M 760 533 MHz FSB
1 GB DDR II SDRAM-400 MHz
256 MB ATI X600 Radeon Mobility
100GB 5400rpm Hard Drive
XP Home SP2

Also, with most of these minor tweaks excepteh Speed Switch and TuneXPv1.5 thingie.

Perhaps instead of showing just our specs all the time, we should make/use a benchmark source map--HL1 and HL2 or whatever--, and then list our compile times using the same options, and subsequent game performance or something.

Methinks that would be cool...

in half-life maps? Post #147327
Agreed.

Sometimes I'll make multiple .bmps--ms paint-- for one room, depending how complicated it is, as well as different concept variations. Also will dl and save relevant ref pics.

It took me a while to take my own advice, so hopefully, we'll see the fruits in my newer maps--I have loads in the pure planning stage... :)

Here is one of the dozen or so concept pics I made in ms paint for Compo 16.

For this compo I had two different Ideas, and different variations of each Idea. It was actually a lot of fun planning it, but unfortunately, I never had time to flesh it out. :(

in half-life maps? Post #147308
It's fun indeed, and that's what it's about. Win or no win.
I agree.

Though if you're new, follow these steps to help you along:

1. Read and follow all the In The Beginning tutorials.

2. After you feel somewhat comfortable with hammer, STOP. Don't start making your map without a clear plan of what you want to do--I use ms paint to draw out all the rooms. I've heard others prefer using notebook or graphing paper.

Just please believe me... The planning stage is the most important imo, and the step many people forego.
