in Problem: My Map makes game stuck Post #107927
first of all place some T spawns and see it that changes anything. I've never mapped for Condition Zero but maybe you need spawn points for both teams for it to work...

It's true (but that was in 1998 :) )
But still, there is so much more you can do with source. I was a little sceptic at first with the trigger system, but now that I know how to use it's a whole new world of possibities. Cryo is right, a machine compo could turn out so much better with the source engine.
Anyway, I've already decided the theme for Compo # 14, and from the moment it's posted in the compo section, that should be your main worry :D

Well, dont tie the brush to a func_wall, it can be a simple as that (It might create some tiny and deadly portaleafs but it will surely stop the drops, right?)
And as ZL suggested, there are sprites made for drips (sprites/wdrip2.spr) , just change the color and BINGO

Years ago, my HL crashed because my game_text had ascii characters that were not present or corrupt in the HL fonts. I think it was "?" or "a" or "?"
I solved it by always writing very simple game_texts

in Half-Life 3? Post #106924
Hypothesis: :D
One of the goodies we can expect is the VAPOR online platform, that will organize our games like "Half-life3", "Team Fortress 4EVER", "Day of Defeat 3", "CounterStrike:Veteran" (and a new version of Ricochet that will become the number 1 online game)
For half-life3, the verification process will not be done online like hl2, instead, the users must present themselves in vALVE's office in Bellevue, with the gamebox, DVD and the ticket. Then valve will give each of us a USB minikey and a serial number that together will enable us to begin the installation.
There will be a crowbar, and a Hammer Editor where the whole map can be made out of props and no world brushes
hurray!!!

in What makes a CS map fun? Post #106804
before you make a CS map, please have in mind that the huge majority of CS players out there are afraid of new maps and rarely, very rarely play custom maps that differ from their de_dust or cs_assault clones etc.
A CS map has to be balanced in order to be fun, have several paths to each goal etc

in Yep those damn custom textures!!! Post #106542
It's also worked for me, I dont remember how though

Making custom textures for source is a real pain in the ***, or at least lightyears away from the user friendly Wally Editor. I hope valve comes up with a nice texture editor (not the one that you can find today in some webpages) that can help us with the use of shaders. The whole file system and process for creating textures in STEAM/source seems a bit ridiculous compared to the quickness of Wally>>WAD :(

I know that the possibilities are greater now because of all these new properties, but in the year 2005 I find it hard to beleive we need to use a Notepad program to make a texture for a game.

Making a single texture for source takes as much time as It did to make a decent WAD file with textures from other wads.

good luck habboi

in DM_Runoff: HL2dm Post #106075
As I said before, they are using a very easy way to fix this bug. Having maps with a minimum or non-existing water level is a cheap way to fix it :)
On the other hand, I'm sure it would a minute to change a line of code and fix it, something like

Sub_TriggerOnDeath
weapons=default
ammo=default
XYZ=random(info_player_deathmatch)
soundfilter=default
deathcount=deathcount+1
end sub

(I made it up but it's gotta be something like this :| )

in DM_Runoff: HL2dm Post #106058
When you are underwater, there's an obvious change in the way things sound (let's say, an underwater sound filter), and when you get out of the water everything goes back to normal.
But, if you DIE underwater, the sound filter remains in place even after you respawn, and for the rest of the game...
If you take a look at all the official hl2dm maps, none of them have a water brush tall enough for you to be completely underwater or die while submerged.
You can go to the middle of the pond in my map dm_regret and type "kill" in the console, see what happens (actually, hear what happens) :)

Inside the building, one of the combine consoles (in a room full of cables) has a lever that can be pulled to activate the airstrike. It then hides itself for about 4 minutes just like in crossfire.
And you're right, the lower part of the map is full of dead ends. btw, did you see my last hl2dm map? :) no dead ends on that one!

in DM_Runoff: HL2dm Post #106009
Some of you might have already checked out the new HL2DM map by vALVE.
It is supposedly the heir of Crossfire since it features an air strike, although the layout has nothing to do with our beloved HLDM map. :(

RunOff, just like overwatch, lockdown or steamlab, is based on an existing map, this time a segment of the HL2 SP game were you had to get off the air boat and enter a bulding. There's no water (since they havent fixed the bug) and some things have been added, deleted, modified etc.

The map seems a bit too open. There are lots of dangerous goodies to keep the gravgun busy, but they can also give your CPU and 3D card a hard time :|

The air strike now features different pitch in sound to warn you of the inminent disaster, similar to the way the Cstrike bomb does.
This time, you actually get to see the missiles flying towards the gameplay area and it sure looks frightening.

Overall, a nice map, (even though it's not made from scratch) but definetely not a worthy sequel of crossfire :(

It is finished, but it's just part of a map that is part of a mod. And I'm not going to finish the mod.
All I have right now is a backup copy of the mod in April 2003. In May, June, July and August 2003 I made lots (i mean lots) of new maps, sounds and skins for it, but a hard drive accident ended all hope of finishing the proyect.

In February 2004, I decided to make another map, the second in almost two years ---> Floating_point
Then I made that Tokyo Museum map for college. I was addicted to mapping once again. As soon as summer began, I decided to make a nice HLDM map ---> Punishment. Then came Warpcore, Tinnos and some others. I found myself with a buch of new maps and I wanted to share them with the rest of the world... that's how I found TWHL...

long live this site!!!! :D

I have a version of "The weakest link" show in my mod "Kasperg Evolution", featuring Gman, Gordon, Barney & co
I might post the map one day if I find it. The voices are in Spanish though, but I think it people will like it anyway.
Of course, I'd have to post it in minimod format because of the sounds etc.

One question that I know should be in the other forum:
When using the wadinclude option, do all textures from the wad file get embedded on the BSP or only the ones that map is using??

If you read all of those and thought anything about Valve, go outside and get some fresh air.
Did I have to think about Epic Games or Ubisoft instead? I dont understand the sentence I just quoted

LeafThread
Compile
Displacement

Decals
...

They are called stalkers, the citadel was full of them.
I guess they are humans in a transition state to combine. (there is a decal poster in HL2 illustrating a sort of evolution from a human head to a combine one)
But hey, maybe the screenshot is from inside the citadel in city 16, which we will have to destroy in the next expansion!!

I think that combine soldier in the pic looks a bit too calm given the situation in which the game ended... unless it's sort of a flashback intro.
If I could talk to vALVE, I would ask them the following questions.
1) HL2 Aftermath is due this summer, but I'd like to know if "this summer" means 2006 or 2007...
2)I'm glad you are making a remake of de_inferno, although I dont know what a "competion" is :D
3)I'm not enjoying the new HL2DM maps, but at the least they have helped me see how nice dm_7hour really is :P (I'm making another map now btw)
4)Did you get my hl2dm contest submission? Next time, could you at least send us a little ty email so we know? :
5)I hope Steam is considered illegal by the time HL3 comes out and it will be a normal game not requiring internet to play the SP part... :D

in Valve's HL2DM Mapping Contest Winner Post #104058
Okay, I've taken a look at the three winning maps, and sadly I'm just a bit dissapointed:

-Underpass: apart from the very nice outdoor section that we saw in the screenshot, the rest of the map has IMO too many cramped hallways and underground sewers, the type of thing we would expect from maps like lambdaBunker in the old HLDM :(
and it lags a bit, not too much though
-Resistance: Now I didnt really get this map... I think it's size will be great for a few players, although I'd rather play steamlab If I want an evening map. The outdoor section was really nice although there was a lot of detail players wont be able to look at while in game ( like the first de_raincheck beta ;) )
-Powerhouse: now detail on this one was superb, as would be expected from the author of rapidcore, finaltube etc. It does look like it will lag in open spaces once the server gets a few players. On the other hand it reminded me of dm_asbestos from Unreal Tournament 2003, quite nice!

in The Pope's Passing Post #102375
Seems abstinence was not the word they used... The exact word or definition has nothing to do with it, the idea is fairly simple to understand. They say that if you stick with your partner, chances of getting AIDS wil be reduced.
Now this, while being true, can lead to mistakes as you guys mentioned, since usually many african women cant control who their partner is with, if they dont use condoms they end un being victims of AIDS.
So everyone is wrong.
Condoms would greatly reduce the risk of HIV/AIDS
Refraining from sporadic intercourse would also reduce the risk of HIV/AIDS

So the Roman Catholic Church is wrong by not supporting this method.
At the same time, people are wrong when saying that practising this sort of abstinence (kasperg covers his head because of a large evil dictionary patrolling high above) is causing deaths. Intercourse with infected people causes infection and death, not lack of intercourse.
Posted 19 years ago2005-04-07 17:15:34 UTC
in The Pope's Passing Post #102353
in case you dont know (and so it seems) the abstinence is refered to intercourse with different partners, not in a marriage or equivalent social union. Human race would not be extinct.
I wonder what kind of desinformation we are talking about...
Roman catholic church tells the people in the village that using condoms will not guarantee a 100% protection from AIDS, but abstinence most likely will.
So they decide to mantain intercourse and not use condoms... Is that really doing what the Church says? I dont think so

in The Pope's Passing Post #102341
We can hear this things in the news everywhere these days. People are saying that...
...
the Roman Catholic policy on condoms actually contributed to many deaths in the fight to control HIV/AIDS
Which in my opinion is just wrong. If the Roman Catholic church says people shouldnt use condoms, it's up to the people to use them or not. There isnt an inquisition force making sure people dont do so, people are more or less free in that respect. The Roman Catholic says that the best way to prevent the spreading of HIV/AIDS is abstinence, not condoms. We may or may not agree with that way of life, but hell, they are right!!!

For example:
The best way not to die jumping from a plane is not using a parachute, but not jumping at all. It's so simple

I have to draw a lot for homework, but I've only used preliminar drawings for 3 maps. Sometimes having an idea an mapping it right away is a better option, since you can profit from that moment of inspiration
