My first map was a bit of a mish mash. It was a badly done (It was great at the time!) lab/pffice complex type thing with this glass walkway bridge going across this big hallway. It seemed like it was the dog's bollocks back then but thinking about it, it certainly was not. Because I was new, I had no knowledge of the correct scales and dimensions HL uses, so I used to 'guess'. I also used to think that you had to use the carving tool and hollow tool alot to make rooms etc. I also used to be so nervous about compliling, I didnt understand any of it but I just 'went' along with it.
But does anyone want to help me make this single player map?
For some reason it is called 'Skunkworks', (I dont know why) and I have already made two sections of it which work and play correctly. If anyones interested I'll email you some screenshots of this thing so far.
How about a mod where you have to battle it against the evil curse of the monkey plague and Seventh-Monkey is like the evil scientist who created the epidemic, kind of like Resident Evil but with Resident Monkeys?
The other day I was making a grunt with one of my turrets, (I use Spirit alot now) but the thing is, I can't seem to work out how to get the god damn turret to stop firing at you when the grunt dies - even if the turret is STILL controllable!
I did everything required, but this is where I think I am going wrong - I put in the grunt's properties the 'Trigger When Death' thing, and the name of my gun. The Turret is set on active ( I thought it deactivates if you trigger it ) but it doesnt. WTF!
YOU KNOW when you've been playing too much Half-Life if:
-You are John Connor in Terminator 3, and you reach the Crystal Peak, and instead of saving the world you take loads of digital photographs of the place thinking it'll make a great half-life level...
Actually no, you are wrong, you see Vassy was booked into 'Proffessor Stange's International Chimpanzee Research Clinic', that's where the rest of em' came from, you know like SeventhMonkey etc.
There are some strange similarities - I mean you got the big ass void -> space, you got a whole lot of shoeboxes -> buildings, and the rest I'll think about in a minute.
Yea I love those models. But I have to say, I got the alien versus predator style models to replace my scientists and barneys, and the max payne ammo pickups, and they all look pretty good in game
You know when you've been playing too much Counter-Strike when:
-When you start to watch 'World's Wildest Police Videos 5'
-When you bother to watch cheesy action films just to see if there might be a good CS map based on it.
-When you make a Bomb Defusal map based on the place you hate the most
-When you make a Hostage Rescue map based around the people you dislike
-When you cant be bothered to learn how to place pod-bot waypoints in your map properly because it's too much of an effort and wonder why your bots dont do anything - (I'm guilty of that! )
