oh, and supermario (if you're still around), you should make your keypad buttons shootable since its hard to push the exact button you want when they're all bunched up.

erm, so if someone didnt know your code, can the door be opened by just pushing each button one after the other until it unlocks? ex. if i keep trying to push buttons 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9, (in that order) will the door open?

garg, did i read your map comment right? can the player open the door by going around trying to push each button til the door opens?

i put a quick and easy 9 button example map up where the door will only open if all of the correct buttons, but none of the incorrect buttons have been pushed. its not as secure of a setup as den came up with (if he expanded it to 9 buttons), but with the player not knowing how many and which of the 9 buttons to push, it's virtually impossible to open the door without the code.

here's my 2 cents.

why pass the map around at all? isn't that why the first monstrosity took so long to make? why not, instead, just come up with a standard door size that everyone must adhere to. that way everyone can get working on their part right away and not feel rushed. also, it will be less likely that people will lose interest since they wont have to wait months to get their hands on the map and begin. all you'd need to do is assign everyone an entry and exit direction (n, s, e, w) and maximum grid coordinates. then have someone edit the final product and connect all the peices. voilla

and for all the people wanting to do hl2, why not get together and do your own project?

afaik, the env_sun is used to create a ball of light in the sky. the old way of making beams of light (in hl1) was to use a func_illusionary with a fade texture. dont know if theres an upgrade though.

if the image of the sprite can be a little translucent, you can set render mode to additive, and fx amount to 255. not sure if the background needs to be black for that though. i DO know that the background will be invisible though.

actually thats not quite what i'm saying. with the way viper described, all you need to do is push all 9 buttons in any order to open the door. what i'm talking about is a system where you must push all the correct buttons, but if you push any of the wrong buttons, the door will remain locked.

let me know if what i described above will work, and if so, i'll give you the setup.

there's a pretty easy way to set up a coded lock where only certain numbers must be pushed to unlock it. the downside is that they could be pushed in any order. but without the player knowing how many and which buttons to press, it should still function pretty well as a lock. will that work for you?

yeah, hammer 4 runs way slower than hammer 3.4... for me anyway. i noticed that mine now runs faster than it did whin i first installed it. i dont know if it's because of updates or what (probably is), but you can try making sure you have nothing else running in the background and taskbar, etc. also, you can post your system specs so we can see if its because your system has only so many resources.

those brushes that are listed are too close to the edge of the grid. move them in some. unless you carved wrong or did some faulty vertex manipulation... if thats the case, delete those brushes and remake them.

AND

you're using zoners for csg, and the original quake tools for the rest. configure hammer properly so that you use zoners for all the build programs.

i guess its where you have the illusionary way up high in that one room. if that's the case, and theres no way to fly in your mod, you really dont need to clip off that small room, because no one can get to it except from the teleporter. but regardless, i put a clip brush in the spot where i think you want it, but i cant give the map back to you unless you allow uploads in the map vault. go edit the map and change it.

hey rabid, what exactly gets reflected? i experimented with cubemaps and i saw a reflection of light that didn't seem to come from any light source at all. plus is there any way to turn down the reflectivity? i couldn't find one.

so you've validated all your source games one at a time, waited for them all to update, then restarted steam, and the same problem remains? well if everything else other than the sdk is working, just delete and reinstall that. if you ARE going to reinstall steam, just move all the files and folders in your steamaps folder which are working before you uninstall steam. that way you can just drop them back in place quickly instead of re-downloading them all.

If you really do have to post about a problem, make sure you search the forums first. The search button is at the top-left of each page. Search the whole web too; use Google, Astalavista, whichever. If you don't know how to do that then you should find out some more about computers and the internet in general before trying to map as it can be a very technical subject.
