there is a flag or an option that allows you to make the button unpressable. just tick that, and have the button triggered when the scientist starts his stuff.
word to the wise: drop PCI now. if you can get anything better, like an AGP or PCIe, do so with due haste. this GeForce MX 5200oc barely renders doom 3, but its the best i can find with a PCI slot.

they are in the game cache files (known as GCFs). you need GCFscape to get into them and pull out the wads. google for GCFscape.
the landscape is actually a func_train. the landscape moves, and the osprey is just a bunch of static brushes. the landscape in opfor didn't actually repeat, but if you want it to repeat just cut the landscape into smaller chunks, and make each chunk teleport back to the first path_corner.

concerning your journal post, you probably need to legally own half life 2 to map for it.
its called illegal. 
use the replace tool. go to the texture selection thingy, find your texture, click it, and press "replace". then click "browse" on the right side of the window, choose the new texture and let it rip.

have oyu tried running the game your mapping for since the update? if you're mapping for half life 2, just start a new game of half life 2, then go map and things should be fine, unless that isn't the p =roblem.
when i first met Peace and LOve (dont think he visits anymore) we were arguing about some kind of model vault, and things got very... vulgar. the next day, i was on IRC talking to some guy names PaLO. i thought he was a pretty decent guy, came across as one of the regulars-to-be. a few days later, having talked with him more, i watched him change his name in IRC. i'm not sure about the curved bits, but that should be possible to build in hammer. if you want to have the curved bits though, theres a free version of softimage XSI used for hl2 models.
