he means the further away a planet/star/galaxy/watever is, the earlier in time we see it.
if a galaxy is 2 billion light years away, the light takes 2 billion years to reach us, therefore we will see the galaxy as is was 2 billion years ago, and in 2 billion years from now, we will see it as it is now.
he is implying that life may have formed within those 2 billion years and we cant see it because we see the galaxy of 2 billion years ago and vice versa for the galaxy viewing us.

DAMMIT! lol, thought i had it there for a sec, and its not BS, you just didnt tell us at the start about anything involving blu-rays and multi-layers, and im too lazy to research it, so its your fault. :P

but yes, j3r3my sounded like BS, because even old comps that were made before DVD came out, could play DVD video and data disks with a dvd-rom drive put in. so why any different for the new one?

also, anyone heard about holographic storage? aparrently, its just a disk the same size as a cd/dvd but can hold up to 3TB!!!
yes, 3 terabytes. thats 3x1024 gigabytes

25gigs on SINGLE layer.
yes, and blu-ray only has one layer, whereas HD-DVD can have up to 3.

actually, its true. to rationalize a recurring number:
first the number: 0.9999999... (lets call this x)
the single digit 9 is being repeated.
next, get the recurring digit or series of digits to the left side of the decimal point, in this case, one digit is being repeated, so multiply by 10 to get just one 9 onto the other side of the decimal.
now we have 10x = 9.999999...
next, subtract x from 10x. all the recurring digits cancel out.
0.999999999999 -
9.999999999999 =
9.000000000000

so we get: 9x = 9
simplify: x = 1 , and x = 0.9999999999...
therefore:
0.99999999...... = 1

oh and HD-DVD will be better.
15gb a layer and up to 3 layers? 45gb beats 25gb to me :D
and you can play dvd's in normal hd-dvd players but not in blu-ray players
what am i gunna do with my dvd collection?
im not having 2 dvd players kthx.
also how are you sposed to burn dvd's with a bluray burner?
also how will the ps3 play dvd's? (not that anyone cares etc. etc.)
nintendo's sticking to its normal dvd's, and home made dvd's are buggy enough anyway.
blu-ray in a casing reminds me of dvd-ram. whats that you say? what is dvd-ram? i rest my case. can you say dreamcast or n-gage? blu-ray is going down to its home - the orthanage, the youth hostel, hobotown, whatever. (ps3 has reserved a room)

its not 'get with the times', its just goldsrc games are dying.
whether ppl want to admit it or not, games using the hl1 engine are dying.
or dead.
of course, some people will still play them, but the number of people playing will reduce significantly.
switching to source ensures that the maximum number of people possible will play your map.

and for the record:
steam is brilliant. i am a huge supporter of steam. i have never had a problem with steam, and its dynamic updates are really awsome. and there is mention of mods being distributed and updated through steam as well. that would be even more awsome.
source is also brilliant.
end of story.

okay, hammer 4.0 was buggy. notice the WAS
ever since the sdk update (the major one, was it jan/early feb?) hammer has grown in stability. ive only had to use the autosaves after a blackout (i.e. no crashing)

so:

hammer 4.0
hammer 4.1

yes. i like goldsrc for its simplicity, but vhe 4 has so many improvements over it. source has nice things to make realistic mapping easier etc etc. props are needed because of PHYSICS! in the real world, everything has physics, so techniquelly everything is a prop! lol.

w0w, another person that hl2 has a good story :o
for some reason everyone thinks hl2 has no storyline :/
but your right, hl2 has an amazing story, and its good that you dont get the whole thing - thats the beauty of it. in real life, if you spawned from nowhere, and all the ppl are like, omg its like you! they wouldnt say like, lets all sit down and talk about whats happened in the past ten years, just in case you spawned from nowhere and dont have a clue whats going on.
as far as horrible storylines go, you forgot FEAR, but i spose its a briefing game.
as for doom 3, it has very little story development, and it is all told in PDA entries :/
the doomtek engine isnt very good for story development, thats why quake 4 suited it so well. its a war game. no story needed. tasty. thats also why enemy territory: quake wars is going to suit it as well. ever heard of a multiplayer game with a story?
now that i think about it, there is one part of doom 3 that was really nice, the part where you sand the glowing specimen tube down the corridoor and follow it for light while ou kill the bad guys :D really took advantage of the real-time lighting.

YES!!! super turbo turkey puncher!

seventh is right about the corridoors - lol.
i remember the parts in half life 2 - in particular the parts with the suppressing device (the big laser that comes from nowhere and goes bzzt) and the strider battle (destroyed buildings - just before you see barney and dog lets you in the citadel)
no other game i have played have had such a sense of.... ummmm well it feels like its not in a map - like its an actual world because you cant see the edges like.
anyway those are my favourite parts because i like playing on destroyed buildings :o
but i hate mapping them :/

hows this?
The second is the duration of 9 192 631 770 periods of the radiation corresponding to the transition between the two hyperfine levels of the ground state of the caesium-133 atom. This definition refers to a caesium atom at rest at a temperature of 0 K.
also:
The metre or meter (symbol: m) is the SI base unit of length. It is defined as the length of the path travelled by light in an absolute vacuum during a time interval of 1/299,792,458 of a second.

straight from wikipedia

...see seconds and metres do exist. nice one, vox, you must have a good memory or something :P

when will half life 3 come out?
or rather:
how long will the delay from the announced release to the real release?

how long until Uwe Boll screws up half life in another shitty movie?

by how much will the new nintendo console own?

when both your hands are full and you yell to someone: "hey! can you trigger this func_door for me?" they just look at you like your a weirdo?

why isnt thumb wrestling an olympic sport?

can a duck fly while carrying a brick?

why do ambulances have backwards writing on the front and police cars dont?

if you live on the third storey of a house with the first storey two storeys underground and the fifth storey gets torn off in a tornado, what storey do you live on?

why are some underground carparks not really underground at all, just under building?
