I'm trying to use the Switch001.mdl from portal as a button, but can't seem to get it to activate. Sorry for the newbie question, but haven't worked with source but for 2 days. Any help would be nice.

The model just idles and doesn't activate.

I'm trying to construct a windmill generator, but at a 45 degree angle (Diagonal) and using the Func_Rotating to have it spin. Is there a way to make it spin at a 45 degree angel with out it flopping all over the place?

For some reason none of the in-game test will show, this includes env_message and chapter titles, nothing. This is somewhat starting to anger me. But, if anyone has an answer to this problem. Is it an option somewhere? It did work before, but then suddenly stopped.

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in maybe hosting a few of those teaser videos? the files wouldn't be much bigger than 2.5 megs. And you can remove them if you like (just let me know if you do) whenever you want.

Yes.. I'm not changing everything, just stuff I wanted to add anyways but got impatient and moved on. Some of it is so new and different than the original release, well... you'll just have to see. but it won't take long, I'm MAINLY going through and fixing leaks, and running vis. Thats my main goal.

ok, removing white dots and I'm going through and adding ALOT of detail to each map, and then I'm going to re-compile all maps and release the re-pre-demo release! And yeah. I'm also looking for a voice actor for barney if anyone is interested, and I need a few lines for scientist too, if anyone can.

Wow... I don't know what happened. I was working diligently on my maps when suddenly I lost all motivation. I haven't worked on them for a week now and haven't been frequent with this site as of late. Hmm... I'm hoping that it will return to me. But in the mean time, I was wondering if anyone is able to do a good barney impression for voice acting, or just any good voice acting in general. If your interested record yourself saying:

"Gordon. The administrator was looking for you earlier. You know, I was late for my shift once and had to clean the "dungeon" for a week!"

Maybe if I can get back in the flow of things, I'll regain my focus. I know it will come back eventually, but I need it NOW!

okay... if white people just started going around the black neighborhoods and looting black homes. Whilst saying black people are the oppressors. and tearing up shops and stealing from hospitols. then a hole bunch of white people went down to floridia to steal aid from the ACTUAL hurricane victims. Then took over the west side of St. louis and made it uninhabitibal to black people becuase if any came, we would hurt/kill them and steal there car. Would you think black people might be a little upset with white people?

when it shows people, it shows them robbing empty homes, looting stores, there not showing just black people doing it, there showing the only people doing it. And bush didn't authorize to shoot black people, but people who are taking advantage of the situation in the worst way possible, whether thats mostly black people or not. And the fact that the people who left the area of effect of the storm, mainly white people, aren't going to recieve funds. But yet the people who stayed and even went there to claim as a victim are, is rediculous, it makes me sick.

About the hurricane... do you know what "People" are doing down there! I was told that its going to raise up to 5 or 6 dollars a gallon by monday. This issue had better be fixed soon, or people here are going to go nuts and lose hope. Looting, pillaging. Its going to be bad, real bad.

Following Captain P's message, you could make an area 1 unit off the floor, and have 1 crate sitting on each. Big enough to hold the crate and a little larger then the trigger_once (Pushables). This would stop the other crates from setting off the trigger, then once the trigger around the crate is set off, have the 1 unit flr lower 1 unit, so that you can slide the crate back in position

A couple of months ago (5) I had a map on here, titled 'horror, or scary map' or something along those lines. The thing is that my computer needed to be re-formated and right before that I deleted the file. I was wondering if anyone might of dl it and kept it somewhere.

Details of the map, You start out under a staircase and if you go backwards you hit a level transition and the game crashes! Through the first door you see 3 flickering lights on the botton of the walls an some functioning ones. Then a vent flies out at you. The next room is fenced in with a red light, normal light flicker and some electricity flowing between two wires. Then a cat-walk with a phasing zombie. next is the Hev suit room and then the big generator in the cornor. Next room contains the power switch and a elevator that a zombie comes out of.

If anyone can send me this map, I would be MOST appreciative!! PLEASE don't neglect my call for help! :cry:

I realize this, this is why I suggested that the map be not COMPLETELY made of flat walls, flat walls are fine if you do it right. But even reality hardly has completly square rooms and hallways for enitre structures

If you want to make a splash screen Elon, make it what ever size you want then re-size it to 640x480. Might be better to to start at that res. but don't have to! Name it Splash and put it in your GFX/shell folder!! I hope this answers your question, becuase I really can't make sense of what your asking. :

EDIT: Is it the area on the splash that the actual logo covers? Depends how big you make your logo resolution.

A brush up on arctitecture!
  • Always make a border for windows: A window set directly into a slab of concrete or brick looks funny
  • Add at least one support plank/beam to chairs, beds, tables, desks..: Almost nothing has just the four legs going all the way up to the actual component. Like add a (X) formatin of wooden planks to the middle on the char legs.
  • Give floors borders, unless made of carpet
  • Try not to fill your map up with completely flat walls, have some bent, sticking out (Aligned with textures) or have columns inbedded in the wall.
Here are just a few basics to think about, its really just about technique and techniques are personalized. So I suggest that you just practice.

It wasn't that hard to make!! I wouldn't of had ANY invalid structure errors if not for the entrance I made into the side, where I draged some vertexes to far up and made a 2D brush.

Yeah, I made this hole formation with like 2 invalid solid structure and a MAX_LEAF_FACES error. Quickly fixed. But this was easily done with vertex manipulation, took maybe 30 minutes

I didn't know I was going to let someone else do some detail work on my maps, let alone make reflections... sorry!!! I can see how using 1-unit thick walls might cuase unknown leaks throughout the level, but I've never had a problem with that.. I make the room first, no leaks.. then I add details, and make sure those don't have leaks. Never been an issue. But I suppose using 8+ units would be a good idea

hey alright, I'm getting a good testing crew. I've been working on this mod for some time now. And you'll be able to notice how my mapping skills has improved with each level. I used to not use vertex manipulation, well, all that changed. And I'd clip everything I wanted to be cut randomly (like cliffs and whatnot) but stopped doing that. And I learned how to explore the pak file and utilize the in-game sounds, sentences, etc. and much more, and its all thanks to the people of this site! Thanks everyone!

It should be done by the end of the month for sure, probably before. I've posted some of the maps on here a couple times, but since there changing all the time I took them down. But I'd be glad to let you see them.. in due time. Just have to finish off the last area and adjust a few things.

We could....

Make a map based of off a movie (ex. James Bond, Fifth Element) and have all the main scenes in the movie included! The more action the better.

or...

Map something strange, have a really odd effect. Or something that would utterly confuse a player.

Or maybe even...

Do a Mcguyver (don't know how to spell his name) where you need to get to (A) by combining (B) with (C) so that (D) will do something so you can get from (E) to (A). More or less a real complicated puzzle in one room.

Just a few suggestions :cool:
