in Now Hiring: Map Vault Moderators Post #288944
The least I should do is apologize for letting you all down as far as MotM goes.

I wasn't capable of keeping up with the reviewing myself (procrastination over being busy, really), not to mention motivating the whole team to keep up. Just one of those things I took up lacking the skill or dedication, got everyone's hopes up, and eventually played a major part in leading to the projects' demise (6-D, OIFH, anyone?)

I've moved on from web/level design to programming somewhat successfully over the last few years, hence my low activity in TWHL. Not an excuse to just drop everything and disappear though, so I feel it's just to at least say I am sorry for failing.

Best of luck to my successor.

Not enough to warrant saying the two films are very similar. I can only assume you are defining The American Dream here as breaking from a redundant lifestyle in order to chase contentedness, but that's already a popular theme. I mean, by that logic, you should be able to recommend Office Space alongside the two.
Never said they were very similar. Personally, I always felt some strong tie between Beauty and Psycho, however I can't really put my finger on what that tie actually is. Either way, feel free to ignore my recommendation due to lack of supporting analysis from my end.

Also, saw Bad Lieutenant yesterday. Quite liked it, even with the lackluster ending & celeb plugs. Cage did a nice job portraying the complete insanity of a twitchy coke addict going up shit creek.

Filling in the middle would probably require shitloads of processing data, Rim.

Impressed by the Unlimited Detail thing though, looking forward to more. And yeah, physics, shading & any dynamic lighting/deformation might be problematic to pull off.

I don't feel that it's appropriate to put the two on the same level. The only thing to two share in common are a word in their titles.
Don't both involve chasing/living the American Dream?

Non-intrusive as in wouldn't take away too much attention from your name or the content in the site. More of a decoration instead of a key element.

Looks much better. I'd play around with some graphics in the actual design now. Something non-intrusive would definitely work.

Also, play around with the menu. See how it looks with, & without the border/container. Play with font colours. It's all about poking around with details like that until you find something that works best.
Other than that - it's a decent start.

Even if you couldn't have properly tiled the diagonal rays background you had before, I'd still try using it - it kind of fit. Just make it big enough and fade out the edges, so it cuts off in a more natural way.

http://www.upload.habboi.co.uk/portfolio_design_user_01.png - this was the best-looking one so far imo, the background opacity just needs to be toned down.

If you're sticking to the most recent one though, I'd suggest making the content area the same width as the menu bar. Also, try giving the menu the same drop shadow effect. Would give it a more balanced look.

See how the contact link looks down at the bottom of the page, just above your copyright. Also, play with some gradients/textures on the element backgrounds to give the site more depth. That or some graphics. Looks really bland at the moment.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/98776-Crazy-Valve-ARG-Teases-Portal-2

Apparently the new Portal update has revealed a bunch of cryptic multi-layered clues, information and what seems to be an overall incredibly well thought-out scheme from Valve to properly build up to something big coming in the nearest days.

From hidden images in sound files, to morse code, and all the way to an old 80s modem set up near Valve HQ, transmitting ASCII pictures of test chambers, Vortigaunts and more.

Whenever the community cracks/decodes one layer of information, more transcend from it. It just keeps getting more and more interesting.

It better be good, Valve. I'm thinking new hats for TF2/L4D2? Episode 3/Portal 2?
Discuss.

EDIT:

I build trolley pole just like in my city: Riga. USSR type.
I've lived there briefly in my childhood. Can't remember anything from that period, but I'm sure we have the exact same old USSR lines in Vilnius. And as far as I remember, the poles were definitely further away from each other. :]

Heh, fairly authentic, those lines. Even the corner bits, I think you got them just right. Nice stuff.

My only criticism would be that the supporting poles are too close to each other. That's very obvious in your last screenshot. You should widen the gaps between each by 1.5, probably even 2 times.

Indeed. Those are just re-skins (decent ones though, I give you that), which don't show any of the modelling skills you'd need to make the rest of the assets for the mod. And your mapping skills being poor don't help either.
I'd say back to the drawing board again and try something that would be possible for you to finish, yet would be challenging enough for you to learn something new as you do it.

Also, stop making multiple threads. Just ask a mod to append the existing ones for you.
