in Problems 'installing' RAM Post #157743
Ok, heres the story,

-> previously had 512mb ram

-> bought 1GB Ram (1 stick of 1GB, not 2 512mb)

-> tried installing 1GB with 512mb stick, and my computer didn't have it.

-> swapped slots around - no luck

-> used 1GB stick in slot 1 on its own - IT WORKED

that was yesterday. today, I booted up - the ram didn't

so im back with a dilema. my old 512mb stick still works.

what do I do? any ideas why 1GB stick now isn't working? thnx

in How long will HL1 last? Post #157737
i think that the situation will stay pretty much how it is now. games are becoming harder and more complicated to map... just look at the difference between hl and source, so therefore, it may get to a point where they don't release SDKs and source codes. then, mapping will cease. basically, its when they think it is too different for us!

you need a clip brush. search for 'clip' in texture browse.

have the button target the light, and name it. for the breakable light, have an invisible block around the light, and have it func_breakable. When its shot, have it trigger the light, and have it killtarget the switch.

in Telefragging issue/advanced teleporter Post #153998
how about...

use massive trigger_teleport

this teleport teleports players at the top of a tall shaft

as the players fall, one player will pass through the first trigger at the top of the shaft, being teleported to one place. this teleporting will thus deactivate the first teleport.

this will continue down the shaft until all players have 'fallen' through a trigger to a different location.

it would definately take a lot of tweaking, but it may work.

also, it would give you a chance to do some cool effects on teh walls of the shaft to represent teleportation.

what do you think? :

meh... good point. it just annoys me that people nowadays are concentrating more on online mods, rather than create maps with storylines, puzzles, and the cooler stuff that can only really be done in HL... you're right 'bout that though rowleybob, prob just got little carried away there!! :nuts:

single player... HL... no mods, no online... just plain 'ole but never-the-less EXCELLENT Half-life. We've got so caught up in throttling our m8s online that the offline single-player game is getting forgotten.

Looking back through the vault, you can see that, at the beginning, 99% of the maps here were for 'basic HL' then, gradually, as new mods continued to pour out, (and ideas ran fewer and fewer?!?) DM and CS maps started to take over, and well... enoughs enough!

Yeah they'll great... but it'll never beat that sensation and thrill as you run around a corner and come face to face with a full-loaded and pissed grunt, or along a deserted corridor only to have it collapse and for you to land in a room of zombies! This is what HL is about... the thrills, spills, and actually trying to accomplish an objective, rather than playing the same CS map for 2 hours... proving that you are really better than tom, dick or harry!

...there I go again. sorry guys. :cry:

it's not about working quickly etc, different people work at different paces, although the results are still good. also, being slower could mean more thorough work, more thought gone into it...
