in Entity Grouping. Post #8521
Recently I adquired the habit of grouping several func_wall entities into one, for example, I have an square room with seven pipes running through the ceiling and I select the seven and turn them into func_wall all at once.
Is this good or should I make separate entities???. Will it affect my r_speeds??. Does the engine render the whole entity??.
Thanks.

Priests leaving women in pregnancy, cleptomaniacal barbarians, spies getting drunk all the time instead of making their work and, of course, behaving cocky to bad guys in a foreign country). Hmmm... Ice Age rules!. There was also an animatin film for the first book of the Lord of the Rings. Was cool!... And if there was an animation films about the Simpsons it would be the best animation films ever. Since there is not Ghost in the Shell remains one of my favourites.
And here there are some good films in my honest opinion...
Blade Runner (Had everything... Was quite dramatic... Had several endings).
Terminator 2 (... Action... An Action film led only by two guys fighting each other!!).
Conan The Barbarian (The best barbarian film ever).
Dwaine?s World (No comment).
The Maltese Falcon (Has almost 60 years but still remains one of my favourite intrigue films).

Oh!!!!. RPG!!!!!!!!. I also played it but has been a year since I don?t have players :(... I was the DM for Vampire: The Masquerade, Mutantes en la Sombra (Spanish one, excellent), RuneQuest, AD&D (Advance Dungeons and Dragons, is this the one you use??) and some others like Pendragon or Mechwarrior... I also was player at some of these but ?t?s so lazy to sit and enjoy, I like to write campaigns and so on :D.
We stopped playing ?cos one of the players was the girlfriend of other and they split and stuff but I?d love to play again since it?s a real nice entertainment!!!!.
I remember Bloodwich from Amstrad CPC, was a quite good dungeon RPG game hehe. By the way, have you heard about IRC and mail RPGs???. Seems people is playing it all over the net!. I imagine they use some kind of scripts for the dice rolls, otherwise it would be quite disastrous (i.e "Oh, a 20, I did another critical hit to your dragon and rolled 9999 damage points in my damage roll. Sorry about that!!!").
... Anyway, now that I remember... I must get a group of players right now!!!!. We used to play some nice music while RPGing, I mean, I had many Cd?s there so I used always music fitting the situation (this is great for Vampire!!!). Given that you are DM you should try it if you still don?t... The Original Sound Score for the picture Conan the Barbarian is an infinite source of good music for D&D :).

Let?s say I have almost completed an enormous map for my mod and then, when I compile it without Rad and with a fast Vis I get HUGE R_speeds in some places like a non much detailed hallway and some parts of a room. It annoys me ?cos I never had this problem before so, what?s going on?. I?m trying to find the command to see what the engine renders in those points but I can?t remember or find it... Anyway, I have more detailed parts and get slower R_speeds, why?.

FRP???... I?m lost, what?s that... And, well, may be about taste, I mean, those bands you are mentioning are damn good... About Blind Guardian... Yes, I discovered them with Batallions of Fear and Follow the Blind, their two first albums back in the 80s :). Those albums sound more like power-speed metal and so sounded until they released... errr... "The Forgotten Tales"?... Nono!, "Tales from the twilight world" where they started with all those choruses and so on... For me, their best album is "Imaginations from the other side" where they found a perfect harmony between power and majesty, it?s a must to hear ;). Then came an album devoted to Tolkien?s Silmarillion who was called... Err.. I?m going to look at it... That?s it, "Nightfall in middle earth", more likely to be called "Nightfall" :P. And then A Night at the Opera (the same as a Queen album, first one, I think, where Bohemian Rhapsody is)... Anyway, they are so good.
Blind Guardian are really an unique case, I never heard something that sounded like them :).

in Making custom guns for hl Post #8416
Yeah... First you have to download the Full Half Life SDK (The game code) and there you have c++ files for everything. In one of them there are the weapons... You can "easily" change the amount of ammo and damage and so on, then you compile and... Implement it.
To make a new weapon you can take the code of one of them (for example, my beloved Glock pistol) and change things here and there (of course you can change the models)...
Anyway, it?s a hard lot so good luck!.

So you?re Portuguese!!!. Good!!!. I?m gonna help my neighbour (foreigner also :P).
Let?s see, we?re gonna do the following things:
-Try compiling in a Hard Disk drive, preferently the same in which Hammer is.
-If doesn?t work, look at the text that appears during compiling. You should see a "Copy" button below the whole text (that text is the log). Copy the whole log and paste it here, sometimes happens a bad error that doesn?t allow the compiler to write files.
-Put the map in the vault if you want, I?ll take a look at it and try to compile it myself (or whoever who wants to ;). If you?re going to do this don?t forget to tell us!!!.
Anyway, I have the feeling that is the G: thing... Have you done any other maps?. Have you compiled them that way?.

Hehe, I know, I know. I?m my honest opinion, best Rhapsody?s work to date is their excellent debut album "Legendary Tales". It does not only feature the most incredible guitar work of Luca Turilli (I don?t know why he stopped doing this solo stuff... Sounded good) but also an outstanding songwriting and a perfect combination of metal and orchestral music. The production is not all the good it could be (drums sound like drum machine :() but it fits the purpose... One think I don?t like about Rhapsody (personally) is that they?ve gone too far in the combination of metal and classical and now their stuff is baroque, dense, full of little details here and there. I liked this kind of arrangements before but now I dig in clearer sounds more, a sound when you can actually hear and distinguish perfecly among all instruments... First Rhapsody album didn?t feature so much orchestral work along the songs and they came clearer with rock structures and classical interludes... But they are good. In the same mood I like the also italian band Labyrinth and, of course, with a common point in the use of orchestral and classical stuff, progressive-metal band Symphony X.
Seems you have good taste DieHard ;).

in level changing doesn't work. Post #8167
... Did you do all the things they told you?. I mean, did you set the change level and info_landmarks properly. This kind of thing seems to be caused by an info_landmark oddly set that warps you into the WRONG part of the map :(... When spawned (and this is important to me), do your angle looks good?, i mean, are you rotated in the... X or Y axes?, do you see your level from a strange angle?. If this is happening something is wrong. Try to do the following:
-Copy EXACTLY each and everything in your starting level and paste it into the destination map. Move the trigger_changelevel back so it?s not triggered when entering and then try the map.

in Loading time Post #8165
.... 17 VIS seconds ain?t bad... Have you included any textures?. The time is taken when loading the map in HL or when compiling?. If it?s when loading the map in HL you may be experiencing low performance on your computer... If it?s when compiling it must be RAD taking its time to compile due to the boxing thing... Do not make those boxes to fill leaks, it?s a bad and lazy approach to mapping. Instead of fixing them this way try to find them, fixing them manually and, more important, prevent them.

Vertex Manipulation... You can also try some clipping if you feel unsure about Vertex Manipulation but bear in mind you will have to master it (if you don?t already) some day. Read the tutorials about Vertex Manipulation in the site and then start trying. You will get loads of errors at first but will get to in with a little practice. Good luck!.

Well DieHard... You?re really gonna dig the new Dimmu?s Album. I played it to the drummer of my band and really got him out of his mind ;). Progenies of the Great Apocalypse is a very orchestrated theme and you?ve got these things in the album but there are also neck-breacking riffs and clean vocal stuff that will leave you completely satisfied. The entire album is not the same as this song (it would be too lineal) but believe me, it?s damn good, just like an enhanced incarnation of their previous album.
And yes, these things tend to happen (I?m referring to the Children?s thing). Have you ever heard Yngwie Malmsteen, his songs are just the same over and over in all him albums (well, not in the first ones). Some call it style and some call it lack of ideas. I see the Children?s thing as the result of exploiting too much a baroque guitar trend that has been enough exploited during almost 20 years. Anyway, it?s cool :).
And not, I haven?t heard about Eternal Lies Anonymous ;). By the way, seems we?re all about death-black stuff XD!.

in Models Post #8147
Let?s see... First you need to texture it and also to assing a joint to it. This joint should be assigned to the whole model. Next thing you need to do is to export them into smd files. These are like "Models" for your model. You need at least two smd files, one with the animation, one with the static model but for static objects you can use the same and fool the program (the animation file would be static).
Once you have the smd files you must create a QC file (tools menu) and edit so it points to your new models. Compile the QC file (tools menu) and here we are!.

in map copyright Post #8146
... Damn!. That?s a HARD one. I don?t think you can make it, I mean, I think the HL engine needs to read your map (not to write) and so needs the decompiler. You could make your file non readable but you wouldn?t be able to play.
But I would not worry about that. If you publish your map here it has its own date of publication so it will be ALWAYS earlier that any copy. Besides, I don?t think people go around decompiling stuff, changing two things and then compiling again (by the way, decompiling causes loads of architecture bugs that are hard to solve, does not pay to decompile at the end).
So my personal opinion is "Don?t worry, let?s enjoy it". I mean, people tend to be jealous of their maps but decompiling is a fact as also it is name changing and lots of thing that can be done to your map but it will ALWAYS remain yours, it?s YOUR work, no one else?s.
You can always put text entities to let everybody know who are you but they can always change them. You could make a mod and change almost every bitmap and they will be able to change it. Don?t worry, make a web about your maps and mods if you want to have a more authentic feeling, but I think noone who has self esteem will copy it.

This error is a crazyness... Mora then 4 named lights use to cause errors but I have almost 8 or 6 in a room and I don?t. Try naming some of the lights the same (they will turn on and off at the same time but...), maybe it will work (of course, try it in a small map to not cope with long compiling times).

Somehow they were like an enhanced version of In Flames meets Yngwie Malmsteen meets Stratovarius. Sounds funny but I see it this way. I liked them very much but I grew a little tired of it and started with other things. They are a very challenging band for anyone that plays and instrument, specially guitars. Their solos are not from outher space once you get to play them but are tricky at first glance.
If you like this style you could have a look at bands like SoilWork, In Flames and so on. Melodic Death/Black metal... Isn?t it a contradiction?.

I saw the pictures... Well, the white dots seem to be HL engine?s geometry bugs but I don?t know how to fix them. Maybe changing your screen resolution will work, try that. Sometimes works for me though I don?t have many white dots problems. Sometimes, reconstructing the thing also works.
And the other thing is QUITE strange. Are your house walls func_wall???. Maybe if they are and you?re not running VIS you may be experiencing one of those "Too many entities in visible area". If they?re not I haven?t a clue of what?s happening there. Maybe you?re having a problem with your video card or resolution. Try changing the resolution to 800x600 0r 640x480 and also try to change the video mode to "Software" or "OpenGL" to see if it works that way.

I was going to bed but...
Make the brush a func_wall entity. Texture it and go into it?s properties. Put the "Render mode" to "Solid" and "Render FX" to 255. This will make all the blue parts of the entity to be transparent... If you set it to "func_illusionary" and put a clip brush in the same place of the fence you will be able to shoot through it too!!!.
Same is applied to ladders in the brush part of them. You make the brush part "Solid" and "255" and leave the "Func_ladder" as it is. This will work... If you use illusionary and so on you will be able to shoot through ladders too.

I?m wondering... You know closed door that will never open but makes a sound (you know, this kind of door that lead to nowhere ?cos there?s nothing behind, but adds depth to your map...). I like them, I mean, I can have a hallway full of doors, all make locked sounds when I come near but only a few open...
The thing is, I make them like a normal door with a brush behind to prevent a leak (entity and world) and assign to them a master that is not possible to activate. This way they act as if they were closed. Is there any other way of doing this?. Do naming them work?. I?m with c++ now so I?m dropping this to read it tomorrow, when I?m back to map.
