Your idea definetly has a truck-load of potential, If you can get it to work, It'll be a gread mod. I still think that you should have a bunch of people after the player, like cops, SWAT, Government agents, terrorists, Armed citizens who want the reward on your head, ect.
And normal citizens who just run from you. That would be great. You can use Dubai as an archetecural refrence to the city you'll make, If you want a high tower and easter buildings, go for it!

How about the terrorists frame you for terrorisim, you have to get out of the government prison via the roof, then extract your revenge on the terrorists while government agents and the SWAT team are after you too? It combines all your ideas in a more coherent plotline, plus adds more enimies you can place for variation.

It means you pick up a box of ammo or the gun itself with a clip inside like you would a can, but only if you have full ammo and want to take more with you. I'm not even sure what I suggested would work for that, but in theory it should. I assume you want to 'use' to place in the players inventory now.

Oh. Well we know it's possible, I don't have the slightest idea on how to do it, though. Perhaps PB or Muzzleflash know how, or if all else fails, look in the L4D sourcefiles or ask someone who's done it for source.

One possible story:
It is the year 2029. The combine have all but conqured humanity... But there is hope... In the secluded australian outback, there lies an outpost where talented individuals search the universe for the telltale signs of the Gman, looking for the one free man... This organisation is called TWHL. The members of TWHL use a sophisticated computer program, codenamed "Teh Hammre" to model various dimentions and planets in 3D. When they find where doctor Freeman is kept, they will convince the Gman to let him go. Each member of TWHL has their own room where they can live and work in comfort, each utilizing a different amount of technology, but all using "Teh Hammre" in their computers in the hope that they can save both Humanity, and Vortigaunt kind. You are a member of TWHL, codenamed "Captian Terror" And you have found a new Gman location. You have to show the founder, Atom, the new location, but he's busy at the other end of the base. You begin a process called "Compiling" that will show the target location in higher clarity, and It should be finished by the time you reach Atom. Either way, you need to show him the new data. All your lives depend on it.
Needs a bit of refinement, But it may be able to work.

An explanation of what the project is and what is to come might be nice, perhaps some nice ambient music made by someone from TWHL? And maybe we could paste in a story, like it's some kind of TWHL secret mapping hideout.

Pick up how? Like 'Pick up that can' or 'pick up that gun and take that guy out'? I explained for 'pick up that can' if you want to carry extra ammo with you in weapon form.

Depends. Do you want the player to be able to pick up weapons they already have, and carry them around with them to use as ammo later, or have to manually 'Pick up' the weapon to receive it?
copy the prop_physics code that makes them able to be 'use' picked up and replace the weapon 'gravity gun pickup' code with it
Is for carrying it for ammo, while I have no idea for using to actually recive it.
(I assume you were asking me)

Yeah, spirit has movewith, just make a func_door and set every other part of the ship to move with it. Simple. One of Spirit's first features has you covered right there.

What version are you runing? Is it Steam, or WON? If you have WON HL1, with no updates, that may be the source of the problem. I'm not to experienced with either of these problems, though, so I'll let someone more experienced take over.

I remember I started mapping for UT 2004. My maps were simple and uninteresting. Plus there was no SP aspect at all, so It got boring until I discovered pawns. then I tried to make a HL-ish SP map series. UnrealEd stopped working around that time... Never did figure out why.
(side note: Be glad you did'nt know me then. I was a MAJOR n00b.)

You mean that 'beta' elevator that makes the game crash if you enter it normally?
EDIT: Yeah, there's a changelevel in there that will crash the game if entered. I always thought it went to what would have been Uplink in the beta. Mapname is c3a1.

So there are three strobes: 1 for the vending machine, 1 for the tv, and one outside the door... shall i eliminate them all?
All but the TV. make it less bright, less noticable.
If you walk in front of the laptop and hit the use key, it should trigger a multimanager triggering sounds, but i can't say why it didn't work for you
In the current source files, the laptop is a func_breakable or func_wall, no button in front.
Remove the mp5 in JeffMod's room, its useless because there's no combat in any of the maps ahead.
Yeah, OK. and remove everything the Vort in my room triggers on death. Also, I'd make my room better to get up to everyone else's quality, but I'm a bit busy now.

Nothing happend when I used the laptop. (I downloaded the source, does that have soemthing to do with it?) I like what you did with the laptop and TV, aside from the strobe. The signs in the exit make it look a lot like a lab, too. Aside from the ugly strobe, I have not complaints. maybe make it less noticiable and more white?
Oh, and I got locked out of the room. that needs fixing too.

6 is my magic number for walls. Mine are usually plaster or metal, though. Brick should be thicker. Go for 8 or 12.

The differences between Hl2 and HL1 are small, but existant. I've found you can get away with 6 unit thick walls, 3 unit thick doors, and 1 unit thick railings. If in doubt, though, use models to check your scale, as humanoid NPC's always show a good size for real-world objects when you compare them.

Yeah. Colony 42 (my current project) is using spirit 1.5a, You can have MP maps with monsters, fog, Start with the HEV suit, and with some coding you can make it like an advanced version of CS, but vanila spirit (Is that the right phrase for spirit?) won't work with CS or vice versa. It also has a lot of source's mapping features, (parenting/movewith comes to mind) if a bit buggy.
