The size of a graphic card doesn't matter much, its usually the speed that really matters. So saying 256MB video card doesn't really say much about the GPU. Always been a bit curious about the SLI thing, if you really are as loaded as you say you are, maybe look into that? :P

And of course the price is an issue. If it wasn't an issue you might as well buy both a lappy and a desktop. :P

If you're gonna go vista early, then you should probably start thinking about DDR3. ;)
Dunno if thats on the marked yet though, haven't really payed much attention to it.

Id rather drown a person with a waterpistol than use the P90. :P

You mean the enfield EM2 or SA80 right? Cause when you say just enfield i think of the lee. which is bolt action. :)

I think starting with a desktop is a good idea, cheaper and it lasts longer. As in, doesn't break that easy. Though you should think about what you NEED and what you WANT in your computer.
I would never buy a lappy for gaming purposes, cause you'll get better and more for your money on desktop hardware. Though i must admit i couldn't live without my lappy for long, and that I use my lappy far more than i use my stationary computer. Cause Ive gone away from playing computer games and such to gone over to doing some software development stuff. If you're going for a laptop: For gods sake, remember to get a good guaranty deal. Cause the odds of breaking stuff like sockets and stuff is alot higher than on a desktop. Don't spent LOADS of money on a laptop that will last for a year. Rather find a good design on it, something in your taste. If keyboard layout is important for you on a lappy, make sure you notice it. I know alot of laptops are really annoying cause they have that one button thats totally misplaced on the keyboard. :P

At least thats my experience.
So find out what you want or need. :)

Games are for entertainment purpouse only, has nothing what so ever to do with real life, unless you fancy running around killing people that is. But if youre one of them i suggest enlisting into the army. Or starting by killing yourself :P

PS: there are smell printers out on the marked allready. And theres vibrators in joysticks and stuff. so... yea. :P

Higher screen resolution != smaller icons or smaller text. All you need to do is to config the icons and text so it gets bigger.
Higher screen resolution == clearer screen (well, that and response time and frequency ;) ), fully support for higher res wallpapers and icons. I run it at 1280x1024 which is the max my crappy graphic card can do. Ive tried emulating it to 2000something x something, but seems kinda pointless, cause my computer probably wouldn't be able to handle that kind of wallpapers (pluss resolution emulating sucks donkey's willy wonka)

In KDE, and most likely in GNOME aswell (haven't really tried), when you crack up the res icons and stuff will be automatically resized to look the same, just smooooth ;)
Though im more of a console person when it comes to linux and doesn't really use any X GUI at all. :P (except for BlackBox sometimes, for solitaire when im bored)

@ G_KID:
I never said debating bothered me, I always fancy a nice debate. I was just stating that arguing an passing of insults as arguments under a discussion is immature and does not belong in any intelligent debate.

And I seriously think that people should at least be able to ACT maturely before discussing a thing like abortion.

People have different views about things, GROW UP and accept the fact that not everyone has the same opinion as you and that people actually ARE different. Your opinion might not always be the right one, in fact... there might not even be a right opinion. Cause most of the time it comes down to single cases and loss-loss situations.

There are allot of types of stupidity. Like there are allot of types of intelligence. We're all, and i mean ALL of us, are stupid on some subjects. We're human, we cant expect to be bloody perfect. Of course some of us just ignores to see this fact and thinks arguing about the same stuff for what, 30 days, is going to change anything at all. Face it, this thread ain't going anywhere. Most of you that argue in this thread, Ive noticed, are way too pigheaded to give in on the other side. (Not that thats always a bad thing) So what the hell is the point in arguing about it? Insulting each other is even more pathetic as it only shows how childish you really are. Go ahead, discuss it till your arse grows to the office chair. Just please... stop using insults as an argument.

Grow up people and get a grip! :|

It's sad, but i have to agree with ZombieLoffe on this one. There are already too many people in the world. Cutting back some on possible life may not help much. But still, It's better to killing off something that have yet to develop than killing off something that already has. Of course another world war or a plague would help, but i think abortion works better, wouldn't you say? :

in Combining Mapping with Websites Post #178837
You can use flash with SQL databases. Id say thats a function.
But i dont like flash cause it pulls down the efficiency on the page and causes alot of load time. Especially if theres sound or music involved. Yes, you can make great flash pages or use flash in a good way. But most of them out there are rubish.
Music on a page == Unprofessional

JavaScript and PHP for the win! :P

Choice #1: Let microsoft take over your brain while you sit on a windows box, fondeling about with error messages and an unlimited amout of patches for an even larger amount of security holes.
Choice #2: Play cheezy games on mac or linux.
Choice #3: Get a life.
Choice #4: Get a job.
Choice #5: Sleep all day.

Ok, ill admit. I wish someone would fix up something like DirectX for linux. But hey... I'm getting used to not getting what i wish for. :P
And ill admit that i have to get on a windows box once in a while, for games or game development. Yes... I am ashamed of myself :nervous:
