I decided we should conform to the other mapping forums and create our own WIP screenshot thread.

Basically you post Work in Progress screenshots of your map for others to crit and comment on. It's a much more efficient way of doing things than starting a new thread and it's nice to see everyones work in one place.

Please only post thumbnails and or directly links to images. Thumbnails preferable.

To start it off I've got some shots from the latest version of Ant's De_Venetia:

Such nice things that will never get finished. I have many maps like that. I would, anyways, if I didn't wipe my entire XP partition every month. :pwned:

That's what it's planned as. I have a complete layout and the theme is all worked out, just building it is the problem. I'm growing more and more sick of Hammer. :<

me ^^ My pc is not that powerful to run Source
Posted 17 years ago2007-12-16 12:39:44 UTC Post #241199
As of 2008, i'm going to leave HL1 mapping behind me.
HL1 is old. I think it's time to move on.

Besides that, the only HL1 based community that is really active is CS..
Posted 17 years ago2007-12-16 13:36:41 UTC Post #241200
If you mean a community of autistic and horny 12 year olds, yes, CS still has a "community."
Posted 17 years ago2007-12-16 14:41:20 UTC Post #241209
well... I'm 19, and as far as I know, I'm not autistic. Oh fogot to say I play on french servers and I've never heard any 12 kid.
Posted 17 years ago2007-12-16 15:11:33 UTC Post #241211
Because you play on a French server. All the noob-ass 12 year olds either can't connect because they suck balls, or don't know how to speak French so therefore won't play on a server where their flames won't be understood.

And yes, the Half-Life community is falling apart. I imagine all modding of the sort for Goldsource will be obsolete by 2010, if not earlier. Although I'm still anticipating some HL1 mods, and enjoyed some recent ones (such as Paranoia).
Posted 17 years ago2007-12-16 15:51:43 UTC Post #241213
saw1833 you make me laugh :)) maybe cs will be played another 20 years or more :)) :)) it's the most played game ..........I mean , there are thousands of maps out there , and even the original ones are steel played .

And cs will be played for another reason(and mapping with hammer 3.4 , too)
There will be people that will discover cs/hammer contiously , and that will maintain the communities alive.

I, for one, will continue mapping with Goldsrc...

Until I can get the frigging Source SDK to start up, of course. :rly:
Posted 17 years ago2007-12-16 17:31:40 UTC Post #241217
More and more gaming leagues are dropping support for 1.6 and moving onto Source, the same goes for the players I think. Nothing is really stopping you from mapping for the Goldsource-engine for the rest of your life, the question is if someone else than yourself will be playing your maps. And if there is none to appreciate your work I think you'll soon get tired and move on...

Myself, I will probably continue to map for GoldSource for about another year, then I'll move on, not sure if Source will be next, probably some other engine...
Posted 17 years ago2007-12-16 17:58:39 UTC Post #241222
I will map for GoldSource until the end of time.

@c-striker: You're a damn idiot. I said the modding community is dying.
I said the CS community is retarded. Yeah, 20 years seems right, nerds that don't leave to upgrade their PC's and check out newer better games because they're too busy flaming, living off of Pepsi and Lays, and using their in-chair toilet.

O lawd. I would be amazed if CS lasts another 20 years. And it's not the most played game. WoW is sitting on that throne. CS is just number 1 in the online action department, but WoW is, and has been, dominating the overall online market.

I'll get some screenshots of a clan map I'm making for Christmas sometime soon.

Which is very sad. Sure, I think it would be nice if all games had a decent amount of players for online games, but I would like to see some of the over-flooded & over-noobed (it's a word as of now =P) games such as WoW and CS decline at least slightly, and for more people to play some of the other games out there.

As of now, it seems as if you talk to or ask someone in a game of CS or WoW about any other games, they'll flame you, or ask what the hell you're talking about. I bet half the people that play CS and CSS don't even know what Half-Life is...

Indeed he is.

Don't play WOW. I suggest doing heroin instead. Slightly less addictive, roughly as expensive to keep up, and slightly more productive.

I used to play a game called Lineage 2, it's like WOW but so much better. I played on a pirate server made by a friend, it's very famouse. Well, what I want to say is don't play MMPORGs, I've been like 8 months playing it and is worse than heroin. Don't do it.
