I know it's supposed to be a really flat, open desert, but I think it would help a lot if you made the ground sloped upward near the edge, and then put clip brushes right before the slope, so you couldn't just look down into the skybox. You wouldn't be able to read the skybox writing though!

Doors can still be good, but you have to do them like TFC where they open really fast.

The map was alright, but I think, to complicated for a hldm map.
Seriously, the big rooms would be suicide because of the turrets.
Vents are simply annoying and corriders aren't what you say 'FUN!'.
The texturing was at most places awfull.

Also, the setting is very strange..
When I first saw the big mountain room were you could walk under paper thing cliffs I thought it was somekind of movie recording thingy.
Then I came to the xen room and I thought it was some kind of thing for the scientist to greater there knowledge of aliens.

You also had doors in your map, seriously, doors are the last thing I want in a hldm maps, you take away the fastness of hldm.

2.5 stars, i'll be nice and raise it to 3 stars.

Yeah.

Stretched textured + low light = horrendous shadows :(

The textures bite wiener in this release, but this will be addressed in the next version :)

@Seventh: I've recently learned that sky brushes used in that way will block world brushes, but NOT entities... :(

This is pretty cool. It's got some errors, but that's to be expected in a BETA. Just don't turn you flashlight on in the tunnels, or you'll be in for some pretty bad "choppy flashlight syndrome".

Pretty neat stuff.

Nice doodads, vistas and doodads. Excellent props--like the chargers in the chest lol!. Detail was great in areas you could find it. Nice terrain too btw! Func_tanks + dm = pwnage :D

The main areas were far too open imo. I agree with srry that the interconnecting hallways are pretty boring.

I must say also that I think this map is a little too big and complicated for a dm map--for my taste.

I like how the pillars become buried partially, and the balcony falls in sections.

Also nice how the balcony bits accelerate to ground :)

Nice breakable bits and sound too.

Pretty cool. I liked the concept, and it even made me want to do something like this myself... The texturing seemed a little uninspired (hallways, mostly), but it was fairly good overall. I don't feel like going into a deep review or anything right now, so I'll just give it a rating and be over with it.

naoko: Neither the .rmf nor the .map file will open for me! It actuall crashes Hammer, and I've never seen that before!!! Odd that it wouldn't decompile either... do you have some sort of secret protection on it? :P

I tried dowloading/running each twice with no luck :(

Maybe it's just not meant to be :(

Last Idea: You could open the .rmf, and tell me what the respective paths are. FYI, they should be like this:

sprites/spritename.spr
models/modelname.mdl
ambience/wavname.wav

Then I can adjust them properly and it should work. Or you could recompile with the proper path structure ;)

I think a lot of credit goes to Frank Lloyd Wright for the building itself and Mr Kaufmann for choosing the spot where his house would be made. Although I the terraces would be more useful in a place warmer than Pennsylvania.

I am thinking about the possibility of making a lite version of the map for hostage rescue like Satchmo suggested. Although it wont be anytime soon I'm afraid. I was balancing the possibilities of making the new version in winter (snow) or spring (trees with leaves and more foliage). Area portals wouldnt solve all the problems because the house was too many windows and entrances... The map doesnt perform that great either because I didnt run a full VIS, for reasons stated in the readme. But thanks for the suggestion. I myself feel like it could be a good map to play with some tweaking.

Decompiling is only bad when you steal someones work. I would NEVER EVER do that in any situation! I am not telling him how to map. Just suggesting that he optimizes. I know he said that its only for show. I was mearly asking if he could fix it for play. I do this because his map is my FAVORITE custom map made that ive ever seen! I only wish I could play it online thats all. (BTW i deleted the VMF after lookin inside :) )

Shame on you Xyos :( Decompiling is bad IMHO and you shouldn't do it (unless to recover your own lost work)

And the reason Kasperg didn't optimize, is because he didn't WANT to.

As a mapper Kasperg absolutely owns almost everyone.

The likes of me and you cannot tell him how to map!

I decompiled your map and took a look at your layout. You know proper use of Area portals, hint brushes, and occulders (ESPICALLY INSIDE THE HOUSE) could fix some of those bad FPS. It is quite possibly one of the best maps I ever seen (even compared to the CSS originals) but improper optimization really hurts it :( PLEASE can you use hints and area portals! I would like to play this map with my friends but cant :( Still without the optimization its incredible!

halo, im running it on the origional half life i put it in with the other mods, and everything works out until i play it. I see the splash etc and when i try to play it the loading screen says that.
