Oh no no no, 3D skybox is a source thing, my bad; I meant just a better 2D sky choice, sorry!
One way around Goldsore's lack of 3Dskyboxes is make one in source, compile and play the map including a camera to take up/down/left/right/back/forward pics, and den convert to TGA format for Half-Life. There are tutorials for exactly how to do this floating about
I will try to continue the review tonight, and yes I am definitely enjoying it! Great work so far =)

I'm sure you too suffer the disease of too many great ideas, and not enough time to ever explore most of them in a meaningful way. The older I get the less I obsess about that, and the more I just have fun with whatever I happen to be working on at the time.

Very excited for you and your well-deserved success mister Skals, CONGRATS
If you ever wanted to go in on a CEVO joint entry or something, I have tonnes of ideas, but not the proper knowledge of CS and layouts to make them work correctly...

Loading this up tonight, nit-picky review inbound!
Spoilers Ahead! - - - - - Custom Splash Looks great, and I love the custom ico
Training Room A bit of a letdown, but at least you had something there; I've never done a custom training room either, so...
Intro cutscene I don't know to what extent you modified the intro scene, since it's been ages since I played op4, but the lighting could and 3D sky could improve it immensely.
Intro map Nicely detailed and nice custom models and assets. Could again benefit greatly from some tweaked lighting. First battle was very nicely scripted and not too difficult. it sort of reminded me the machines prisoner camp raid from Terminator Genisys: just add scorched sky, purple lasers, and nighttime
Kudos if you built the palm tree models from scratch, but there are much-more realistic ones available. Nice first puzzle, although it took a bit of aimlessly walking around until he came up to cut the door. also easter egg!
Terrain in the battle area could be better, and you have some splits in the brushes, but no big deal. Definitely some more props and detail items out there would be nice too, including you could add rocks/rubble all over. I would not use that metal door texture in the future, or scale it down a bit, and/or add some more segments and detail to the door itself.
First level change Really nicely done area, and general detailing is great, including garage doors and the trucks outside. Nice dick move denying access to the tower btw. There were some models fading/disappearing too quickly out there.

Great news and a big step forward for the LGBT community, hooray! =P And Jeff, I don't seriously see anyone actually moving to Canada over this, so I wouldn't lose any sleep =P

"I'm making damn sure I have my W7 installer on a pen drive ready to reinstall at a moment's notice." ^This.
I'll image my entire drive before upgrayedding, just-in-case I don't like it and/or W10 breaks anything.
That's good to hear about the multiple-monitor support doe.. Can't believe you never saw the audio mixer before PB, you must not be a big multitasker =)

Yeah this is not really a feasible solution ;p
Originally tried to use trigger_relays to reset the flooding water brush, but I couldn't make them work. If it was a fixed round time, it would be easy to sync the water to match..
Stu, do you know of anyway to kill or reset them properly with a trigger_relay or something else?

Also Brett, REALLY NICE job scripting this! Would it be possible/practical to make a MP version, where say you have 5x5, both teams with their own motherships and fighters? =D

SKYNET is taking over!
TBH I've never had a problem like this, but it sounds scary. I would clone the drive to an external, format your HDD, and restore with the clone image.
Maybe also start shopping for HDDs just in case =)

copy/paste from thread Just played the original Bosconian on MAME, and I must say it's a really fun game! The game is pretty fast-paced and plays well my only wish there was a secondary-fire weapon like a torpedo smile -
Your Ep2 is very faithful to how the original game plays, well done! You did a really good job with the lasers, they remind me of a star destroyer repelling enemy fighters with multiple laser batteries.
I had to play with the sound disabled because people were sleeping, but I'll play it again tomorrow to check out the groovy sound effects =)
My only complaint with the game is I wish the fire button was a little more responsive, other than that you've really done a fine job! Nice work on the radar faithful to the original as well, and the mother ship energy core thingies grin -
Diaganonal movement doesn't work for me at all. (In MAME, you can make the ship go diagonal by combining W or A with S or D)

It looks flatshaded from the screenie bro... We're not trying to jump on you even if that's how it comes off. <checks moar screenies on GB>
I admit I rarely play maps before commenting anymore, but I stick by my earlier comment after looking at GB snaps. It should look amazing if you get the brightness and sun angle just-right. Use sprites to mimic hdr glare/haze.
Did you use the recommended VHLT, or ZHLT tools? VHLT will give you the prettiest results by a large margin
A night map with texlight torches, and a pale light_spot moonlight might look amazing too, especially with the right night skybox

Great journal post Ruf, and I agree with everything you said. When you monetize every aspect of a game you ruin it. Valve doesn't have enough money already filling their swimming pools full of money? It really makes you wonder sometimes.
As for CSGO it's been quite some time since I played regularly, but I feel they've done a pretty good job with it so far. I'm happy I can say all the workshop maps I've uploaded still work years later--even with constant updates--, so there is something to be said about that.
CSGO items don't bother me too much, but constant random people asking you for deagle skins and trading cards does(not Valves fault I guess), gets old pretty fast.
If I had one complaint about CSGO it would be that they repeat maps over and over againg in different operations. I mean, i can understand paying for a map once, but I think it's annoying and lame to pay for the same map twice...

TWHL: A finishing school for arseholes
We all have our regrets regarding our early, multiple shitposts to online communities; don't let anyone tell you differently
This is why we should all give new users some slack learning the way of things, though I know it can be tough(and painful) remembering we were the same way once.

Congrats on completing a big project such as this! Will play/rate soon as I can =)
And Jeff, I don't seriously see anyone actually moving to Canada over this, so I wouldn't lose any sleep =P
It sucks you're gonna lose your father for a year or more, at least there is Skype and facetime and whatnot to keep in touch 'till he returns.
I should have made this more clear in the description, editing now--Sorry! =)
I couldn't view all the pictures because they were loading reallly slow from Imgur fsr, but the finished product looks perfect!
I'll go through all the images later and see the whole process, although I don't think I'd have the courage to try it myself(especially the painting!)
^This.

Very nice to know you can do that! Thanks for sharing your solution and yeah, i would definitely upload an example map
If I can find a better way to do it I'll let you know, might play with it some more later tonight..

I first tried using trigger_relays, but water seems to not be affected by them. (unless I was using them wrong)
Hope this helps, it was a fun map to make regardless

I refuse to click that link since DO NOT WANT more excuses to waste money, but that are a damn sexy acquisition sir =P
I can't imagine meeting TWHLers in RL, your meet-up had to be pretty surreal
Have definitely picked up many game-changing shortcuts here at TWHL, that most-likely I'd never learned on my own due to chronic thickheadedness..
Ctrl+I/L/K is a really important one, which I think incidentally I also learned from the Brettster
I need one more myself for quad 8s
