I thought about buying it because it was ?2.97 in the Woolworths budget chart so I could review it on YouTube. The thought passed rather quickly. :)

"which will most likely be filled with flaming and dismissive statements"

Not sure why you feel this way at all.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but I never see people flamed for posting their opinions. Maybe if it's not backed by anything, but other than that.

I installed Sven and played... pretty cool! (tho it lags my computer pretty bad, and i'd probably play it more if i got rid of the hi-res models, which look quite sexy btw.)

I couldn't get past the first objective without dying: I couldn't figure out what to do before i died when you reach the far door where the bad guys spawn by the rocket launcher.

The mapping looked really nice and detailed from what i could see tho. I don't usually rate on gameplay because i rarely ever play maps i rate with other players. I go 5 stars for the general impression and how nice the map looked from the first area.

Texturing 10/10
At first glance I seriously thought those rock walls were real! All the textures look great and the custom ones matched perfectly.

Enitiy Placement 10/10
I like the scattered arrangement of the health and ammo. You have regular small health packs but only a few large ones in some areas. The weapons were placed appropriatly and ammo was available but not abundant.

Design 10/10
It didn't feel like an arena, that's a plus, but it has the possiblity of both long range fighting and mini-arena areas where players can get up close and personal.

Ambience 10/10
Lighting felt natural. I felt that where there was light, it was made so it lit enough of the area to allow players to see but still emphisise the fact that the player is in a deep dark cave.

Map Skill 10/10
Solid, plays with the fact that there is a world outside but trying to get there is costly. The rock formations were fantasic and allowed a less 'constructed' feel to the map. Those waterfalls were fantastic and broke up the regular old rock wall.

Total 10/10 (5 stars)
Magnificent map, this is a true Half-Life map that breaks from the style we are used to but lives in the world that we are.

Texturing 10/10
The map was well textured and looked very fitting for the environment.

Entity Placement 4/10
I was very disappointed by this map. I shot 50+ rockets at each of the turrets but they didn't die. I eventually managed to blow one up but it was still shooting me from nowhere!!! After about 15 minutes of shooting at the turret on the far side of the map the grunts, who had been fighting up on the road, eventually blew up the barrels and I failed the mission. I was really #$%^ off by then and I quit.

Design 8/10
The layout was good except the spawn point was very exposed and often I couldn't make it along the boardwalk before being mowed down by the countless terrorists and endless rocket fire.

Ambience 10/10
This was one of the better parts of the map, well lit and plenty of ambience.

Map Skill 8/10
It was a very solid piece of work but the one annoying problem was the sky was constantly flickering in and out of the void. This means I would aim at a turret and see 5 of them. Really drew away from the map.

Total 8/10 (4 stars)
I liked this map but sadly, I was disappointed by the end of playing it.

Did you make this map? If you didn't i don't really see the point of leaving comments for someone other than the author, but what the heck i will anyway.

A very beginnerish map, but not without very nice and inspiring attributes.

I liked all the interactive bits, doodads, and random effects, from:

-swinging light fixture
-random gunshot sounds
-trams
-lifts (thou they tend to crush you a lot)
-multiple doors
-other stuff

I also liked the small props like computers and shelves, chairs an a bunch of other things all nicely made. the cliff terrain was interesting looking at the water level too. Nice structures too like the guard towers, trams, and other stuff

Texturing is bad but it is an FY map, so who cares.

Anyway, neat, especially detailed for an fy map, but pretty average/rough around the edges. 3 stars for attention to detail with the props and effects.

Or:

you could buy Half-Life ($19.99) and Episode Two ($14.99).

... then buy GMod ($9.99) separately.

No.

Buy The Orange Box ($39.99):
Inkluderar: Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Lost Coast, Half-Life 2: Episode One, Portal, Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Team Fortress 2, Peggle Extreme

Or even better, the Source Premier Pack ($79.99):
Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike: Source, Half-Life: Source, Day of Defeat: Source, Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, Half-Life 2: Lost Coast, Half-Life Deathmatch: Source, Half-Life 2: Episode One, Portal, Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Team Fortress 2, Peggle Extreme

Then buy GMod serparately.

Ok so cooler is installed and I'm trying to overclock the CPU, but the motherboard I have is a piece of shit, multiplier is locked to 9 and minimum FSB is something around 533 so I've done the calculation and voil?! 4,8 GHz... and how can I have a quad core at 2,4 GHz if there's no options for that on the BIOS?

Oh yes, and I have a program that tells me the temperature and all the thing, it says my frequency is 2,4 GHz (266,67 x 9.0) so where the hell is the 266,67 option on the BIOS?

ok , coolness !!!! This map has a very realistic feel . I'm always impressed by outdoor hl1 maps because they're the hardest to achieve . I'm not very good at commenting a map , so I just want to say this map is really awesome !

I don't like a thing , thought ... if I fail to complete the mission , the map ends .... This is a little stupid . It should restart but uh .....I don't think that's possible with triggers in-game only from the cfg file .

5***** for it's realistic feel and ambience .

Overlocking your CPU won't help you as it stands. A quad core is more than enough to process any given Source game.
But I would also recommend AGAINST overclocking your video card. While you can really squeeze some extra juice out of processors, overclocking a video card will only give you a negligible increase in performance in exchange for possible artifacts and an unstable system prone to crashing under load. And believe me, it really is negligible. We're talking a 5-7 fps increase, tops. The story you read was a flat out lie.
You're welcome to try, as long as you've got a decent cooler there's not much to worry about, but you aren't going to get the kind of performance you think you will. You're better off with a new video card all together.
For a cooler, I'd recommend Zalman. The $40-$50 models will be more than enough, just make sure you install it properly.
And if you do get a new cooler, make a note: thermal compound needs to be applied in moderation, most people don't seem to know this. Only put a TINY dab of the stuff on the chip, then smear it evenly across the chip's surface with a business card or something. The resulting layer should be extremely thin, you'll probably think its not enough, but it is. Then put another small dab on the cooler and lightly wipe it off with a napkin.

EDIT: Also remember that once you get an aftermarket fan, usually its not a matter of overheating, but a matter of whether or not your processor can actually maintain the extra power without crashing.

Yah, new graphics card first.

Then, you could OC the CPU with a good after market cooler. Notice I said GOOD, not decent or cheap.
Commented 16 years ago2008-05-17 00:07:15 UTC in journal: #5067 Comment #58670
if that's the case, you don't need to overclock anything. you definately need a better graphics card to go with your quad core though, 8500 is disgustingly bad.

That's why I'm asking...

I've read you can easily get 3,6 GHz with the q6600 by air cooler, so what's the problem with it? Which is one of the main reasons that buying a quad extream is silly cause it costs like 4 times more and you can easily reach it with ocing.

I've read a guy that haves 120 fps on TF2 with an oced 8500 too.

And come on... do you think Im going to buy new GPU + new RAM + new motherboard which haves 5 months old? If I were rich I would do it but it's not the case
Commented 16 years ago2008-05-16 21:33:54 UTC in journal: #5067 Comment #58671
Besides, unless you plan on adding more fans or such, you can't do too much overclocking anyways. You might as well just take a lighter to a few hundred dollars.
Commented 16 years ago2008-05-16 20:19:45 UTC in journal: #5067 Comment #58665
You have, obviously, no idea how OCing works, and I really don't recommend it.

Your goals are pretty outrageous, and it's never gonna happen unless first we find out if your hardware can actually accomplish this. We need to know exactly what's in your computer to see if it's even worth it.

I've got a new computer ?? 5 months old computer.

Quad Core Q6600, 2 GB ram 667 MHz, nvidia 8500 512 MB and 500 GB hard disk.

I can play all Source game at max graphics at 1440?900 so it's not a bad computer

I want to increase CPU speed from 2,4 to 3.0 and RAM to 800 MHz, GPU don't know, but I play source games around 40 FPS so I would want like 70 or so.

Commented 16 years ago2008-05-16 18:14:06 UTC in journal: #5067 Comment #58669
to overclock your CPU, go should through the BIOS. same with RAM timings.
overclock your graphics card through your video drivers. for nvidia, their o/c program is called ntune. don't know about amd's drivers.

madcow is right, overclocking will make little-to-no difference to everyday performance, and voids any warranties on that particular part. best avoid it altogether and spend a few hundred on something that'll last a few years, and won't artifact on your screen :)

There's a lot of variables to consider.

CPU make, graphics card model, mother board, power supply, etc.

Ok, maybe not power supply, but still.

Cool little map.

The matrix textures look neat, but it would have been easy to make them scrolling textures and use a func_conveyor to get the effect of the text falling like in the movie.

The song is a bit wearing and loops weird sometimes. I dunno if the track is not seamlessly looped or if it just cuts off when you enter the white room.

Anyway, neat little map!

Quite nice!

I liked the texturing and the architecture wasn't overly fancy, but nice and entirely adequate. Good r_speeds throughout, good enough you could add some more small props, detail stuff if you wanted. Could have used more sound perhaps besides the dripping in the water part.

Really not much to the map to give it a full 5, but it's so cleanly done, i'm going 5 anyway.

Anyway, great-looking mp5 map, win.
