The government is always robbing me anyway. I think we all accept it as a fact of life.

That's the whole reason why I formed my own corporation. I pay a lot less taxes that way.

Mapping on a laptop just doesn't make sense.

I use my laptop to check emails and browse TWHL, that's it.

Try having the cake and sex at the same time.

It's like that Seinfeld episode.

Congratulation!

I've been married for more than five years, and it's still going great.

I heard that the second generation Bose Companion has a lot of "bug fixes" since the first iteration.

My speakers should arrive tomorrow, and I'll let you guys know how they sound compared to my $15 Logitech speakers.

Maybe it's because you haven't experienced equipments that cost more and have better quality.

I was a skeptic about expensive speakers until I got a subwoofer. The difference is huge.

And I can definitely hear the difference between a $10 headphone and a $100 one. I don't even consider myself an audiophile.

Those Bose speakers are US$90 now at Newegg, with free shipping.

I am buying them.

Far Cry 2 music is better than Crysis. The Crysis soundtrack sound very generic and not at all memorable.

Game design and mapping is everything that makes a game fun. Valve excels at level design, and that's why their games are outstanding.

Plus, I have a feeling that Crytek doesn't playtest their games sufficiently. There are always a lot of bugs and non-intuitive moments in the game that cause the player to get stuck.

I forgot that I had to exit the game twice to check online for walkthroughs because I got stuck toward the end. Come to think of it, the gameplay was not too gamer-friendly.

Good thing that we have walkthroughs posted online.

Well, if anyone wants to play a game on "insanity" or "nightmare", you shouldn't complain.

Personally, I have never tried to play a game on a difficulty level more than "hard". I almost always play a game on the normal difficulty level.
Commented 13 years ago2010-07-13 12:33:59 UTC in journal: #6647 Comment #47907
Well, I think it's fine to have variation in difficulty.

For us veteran gamers, we all expect a boss fight to be more challenging than a regular confrontation. Every shooter game has boss fights and mini-boss fights.

Even Half-Life and Half-Life 2 have them. You expect that a confrontation with a strider or antlion queen to be tougher than a combine soldier or a zombie.

But I agree, it shouldn't be impossibly hard. At all time, the player should never feel frustrated.

The tank battle was challenging. I figured out that the best way to beat the tanks was to get out of the tank and snipe the enemies from behind the line.

Being inside a tank was an easy target for the Korean soldiers carrying missile launchers, and they get you from very far away.

Personally, I didn't have problem with the first wave of nanosuit Koreans.

But what I was talking about was the "Ascension" level. It was nearly impossible to control the thing while dodging fires and rockets from those alien squid-looking thing. There's no place to hide from their fire, and they move much faster than the transport plane. I was basically sitting duck in the sky.

I don't mind a little challenge, but more than twenty tries is just excessive.

Half-Life 2 is quite balanced when it comes to difficulty. I applaud Valve for their playtest effort.

Just like Far Cry, Crysis is quite glitchy when it comes to gameplay.

In the US, daycare is for anyone under three and not potty trained.

Preschool starts around age 3 and you must be potty trained to attend.

Kindergarten starts at age 5.

First grade in elementary school starts at age 6.

I have 8 GB of RAM now, and it's a bit excessive for today's standard (but I only spent $100 total for my current DDR2 memory almost two years ago).

In another year, you can't seriously say that 8 GB is too much. A standard gaming machine today has 4-6 GB of memory. I am confident that in a year, 8 GB would be standard, and there will be applications and games that would require that much memory to run optimally.

I still remember the day when 1 MB seemed excessive.

What a relief, and hopefully it's the end of our cat feces problem.

I think after it has been imprisoned in a small cage for three days, it would have learned a lesson and stay away.

The animal control is coming today to pick up the cat. The yard has become pretty stinky after it peed and pooped in the cage.

No, I would have killed it if I know how to operate a gun or own one.

But the most important reason is that I don't want the owner of the cat to kill us or my son. I don't own a gun, but the owner of the cat may.

It has no tag around its neck, but that doesn't mean it has no owner.

I am a corporation of two people. My wife automatically becomes a shareholder because she is my legal spouse. I am setting up a corporate account, and I'll pay myself each month, but all the work-related expenses are tax deductible, and my earnings can only be taxed if I pay myself.

It all sounds like a legal loophole for rich people, but I guess I am one of them now. It still feels very strange.

Thanks, I am glad you guys had fun.

From experience being a previous server moderator, HL2DM servers usually never have more than 6-7 players at a time. This is quite different from the typical CS:S pub servers, where 32 or even 64 players sometime gather for a match.

If you want a larger map, try dm_tidal. I made that map with plenty of open space, and was intended for long-range fights.

It's a pretty good setup. I agree with the idea of putting your money toward graphics card and display. Most modern CPU's are plenty powerful for almost all purposes. You don't really need top of the line stuff.
