I'm a Maya user and my current setup has an i7 4770K and an Ati (AMD) Raeon 6950. The GPU for me isn't used for rendering so I forked out some money to focus on the CPU seeing as that's where all the rendering takes place.

As for RAM I could only afford 8GB which is reasonable for smaller rendering projects but if you're doing large scale, high resolution renders and will have multiple intensive programs open 16GB would be ideal.

Good point. Add 'JoshCake' and I'll hop on whenever I have the chance to. Been playing more ARAM than normal Summoners Rift but I should be fine for both.

If you've got quality headphones/headset/speakers ssomething as cheap as $30AUD you could get an Asus Xonar DG sound card granted that you've got a spare PCI slot and it doesn't break the budget.

There are PCI-e alternatives as PCI slots are becoming rare nowadays, however skip it if you're fine with on-board as Penguinboy has stated.

I've been wanting to find this again but have been too lazy to do it. Wasn't colossal cat also mentioned in someone's thread about how to block off an area of their map naturally or look somewhat plausible?

Almost reached my 6th year from signing up and just like the majority of you guys, maturity wasn't exactly a strong point back then... neither was grammar.

I still remember seeing "Urbanebula" as opposed to "Urby" and also remembering certain peeps such as "Dave932932" and "Orpheus". Has it really been 4 years (2008) since the site's been revamped? o_o

It'll probably be one of your best ones despite it having a higher workload than previous years. I'm currently on my last year, in fact, almost done (Aussie here). Final exams are in about a months time including a solo performance beforehand.

All I can say is, don't fret about the final exams as it's only the beginning of the school year for you and if you get a good balance between work and play, you should definitely fly through.

I was going to suggest the Caviar Blue but then again I haven't used a Spinpoint yet. However, literally a couple of days ago I resurrected an old PC (lucky enough that this 2003 mobo has SATA2 ports) with a Caviar Blue SATA3 set to SATA2 via jumpers. In my experience, you don't need special software to format it.

But all this won't affect your decision seeing as you've already made it. :|

@SpaG
FPS ports are playable even with a controller (yes I know, why?!) and some of them, including Vegas 2 don't have auto aim built in. Difficulty has probably been lowered to accommodate the horrendous aiming but I don't find it too hard to aim and "STRAFE-JUMP-TURN-SHOOT" but yeah it is very annoying for others to execute it.

@Stu
I tend to not log in and view the board so that's maybe why I have a lot less times of logging in than you.

Yeah I'm with ya with the drivers. Still stuck at 9.12 (can't map on Windows 7 but is possible on XP) due to artefacts when watching movies. Small issue but would rather get rid of it than live with it. (9.12 and above have the artefact problem.)

nVidia may have lost the lead but you have to admit, they are still leading in the power they get from their GPU's.

I'm pretty sure you should be able to select objects in the 3d View if you install the 9.12 catalyst control center or above. Only thing is, I don't know if laptop chips are any different, in regards with the drivers, to a standard card.

Telling us about bargains like this is actually quite helpful as, well, they're a bargain. And with cheap products we usually tend to think they're dodgy due to their low price. So for this, at least we know this isn't dodgy and is pretty decent for $20.

Well now I've actually got it to work again. Just had to un-do the changes. Only problem now is that every time I play a game, up comes Blue Screen with something on the lines of "nv4_disp.dll" which happens to be something about the nVidia drivers. Gonna update them soon.

AGP = Accelerated Graphics Port. It's a step down from PCI-e meaning it's a tad slower. They kind of stopped it now but I think Ati has a few cards still going.

6800GT AGP

6800GT PCI-E version

Notice how the connectors from the PCI-E version differ from the AGP?

Skals is completely right here. This does encourage spawn killing. I did try this with a couple of friends and the third round already felt too repetitive. You spawn, you swivel your mouse around, click, die. Sure, that applies to other maps but this one, it's just to quick. And the thing about "testing reflexes" is that it doesn't. You just have to look in the direction of where someone will spawn, wait for the countdown to finish and spray away. Spawn killing anyone?

Ways to improve:
  • Give it a theme. It's way too boring being in a large, dark room filled with pits... Maybe make it outdoors? Or a city type map in which you start behind some barricades?
  • The squares hurt my eyes! Spend more time on architecture because it really seems there was almost no effort involved in this. Rather than boxes, maybe make the pits dome-shaped?
  • I know this defeats the purpose of typing all of the above but, how about scrapping the idea of this room and making it to like I said before, an outdoor map?
This really needs improvement.

By the way, what was with this?
"omg skals you are fucking retarded UGH"

Btw if you need to ask about Bleach and stuff just PM me rather than here from now on.
