The sky loosk wrong for the kind of ligth and shadows, apart from that it's ok, but seriously, dust remakes are so void now that Source is out and everyone is sick of all teh remakes and blah blah.

Thing abotu dust textures is, you can just steal teh architecture from the dust maps and make something that doesn't look too bad.

I would say chaneg the sky, and add in soem plam tree models, and a few burnt our cars to make it slightly unique.

Ok, well if it didn't do much to your r_speeds you might as well not do anything.
Perhaps making the books models? Would cut down some poly.
But tbh, a map can be playable on a moderately high spec machine at 1300 - 1400 w poly (Counter strike), so you don't have to try and get it down to 800 or anything, imho if you're still using a Geforce 32mb you deserve everything you get :D

Pity about the tampons, but yes, it would have been funny as hell, maybe a func_train where the tampons take a little ride around the room, I knwo I know, I am a strange person. Sorry.

The bed should be easy, I'm pretty sure if you set them up liek Half-Life's jump pads (check teh example maps, I'm sure there's a map, teh general q's forum had a thread about it not long ago) and I think you only need one, but maybe having more would be cool, liek different parts of teh bed are more springy etc.

Use the ZHLT Light Flags option in teh func_wall entity, you can set the func_walls to Opaque, ie; they create a shadow, but don't split faces.

Ideas for novelty items:

The bra/panties thing. Seriously, how many kids under 16 are there that play CS, any hint of the 'forbidden fruit' and your map will sell like hot cakes.

I know this sounds sick, but bear with me:
A box of Tampons, you could right, I know this sounds sick, tie the tampons to func_vehicles and have people ride around on them.
I'm not joking either lol, I don't know which is worse :D

If teh bed isn't a major part, or even if it is, have it set up like the jump-pads in Half-Life, so it looks, and feels, liek you're jumping up and down on teh bed.

I'll post more if you want/need any ideas.

You sound like you havwe a good concept of level design, try and put more of that focus into making the map look alot better, get some detail in tehre, perhaps use different textres.

Well, there's some really nice detail in there, perhaps you could func_wall alot of that shizzle,like the mirror and the drawers, and all that stuff on the shelf.

And just clip all things that touch the ground at one unit above the floor level, and func_wall that one unit piece.

On the whole it actually looks really good, teh best ratsmap I've seen for a long time, and that's a compliment coming from me, I tend to relieve myself over rats maps (and by relieve I don't mean anything pleasurable).

Nice theme, could you perhaps put in some panties?

Holy shit.

A tip:

Texturing walls, floors, ceilings, doors, carpets, furniture, all with the same texture leaves a very bitter taste in my mouth, and a gap in my brain thnx to the 7iq points I lost after looking at this map.

A tip:

Try and give your maps 32 spawn points. You never know who will run them on their server...

If so remember to rename your map with teh _cz extension or face teh wrath of the secret VALVe agents. Apparently.

I don't like it, not least because it seems really random.

Two sets of 'stairs' facing each other with an arched tunnel in the middle. Pretty unimaginative, or how shall we say, pretty fucking wierd..

Also, there's too many of these feckin' aim maps about.

I, personally, am sick of them. I'm going to flood The world with aim maps in protest.

Oh, Vassy, it looks cramped, but when you have 8 peopel trying to leave at once it needs to be open, sometimes you gotta put gameplay over looks =/

I also thought teh brown colours of teh blanket and sheet went togetehr well, and there's a green light in teh room now, which actually offsets teh colour! so it kinda looks green, so I think I'll leave it as it is, also because I would have to find good textures for it, and it took me a whiel getting those.
Also, Op4 tex's are too old to be used in Hostile Intent, not least because they're bad. But I will check them out. Thanks for the suggestion though =)

The point of teh barracks was to have thigns uniform and tidy. It's supposed to be a military trainign camp (quite far from complete.. =/) so it needs to be clean and tidy.
I thought of adding some bed tables and soem photographs on teh walls maybe, of loved ones etc.

So can we kick this back on topic so I can get some constructive criticism.

To reduce the lag, simply lower that sky brush, no need for it to be so high. Lower it so it is just touching the tallest part of those towers.

and no, those brick barricades aren't lagging the map, teh fact that it is very open is lagging the map.

Listen to 7th, and don't keep updating this, try making some singleplayer maps using entities and trying to get the scale right.
You seem to have a good grasp of the "basics" finally, so just refine those skills.

Triangles, it really is all about triangles.

Experiment, it's hard at first, but try tweaking vertex points and see what you can acheive.

Here's a tip:

Select multiple brushes, all around the single vertex point you want to manipulate.
Select the Vertex Tool, and 'drag' a box around the vertex point, now drag that box around the vertex in a side/top/front view, so a box is surrounding the point, now hit enter, it will select all vertex points within that dragged-box (on brushes that have been highlighted)
You can now cut down the time it takes you to vertex large areas.

To ZL:
Yes, they are high poly, but they can be used in a lot of scenarios, good thing about them is that you can use them as hills/cliff walkways, just retexture the top with a grassy tex and it works a treat.

Anyway, just thought I'd let you guys rip them apart seeing as a guy on the HI forums wanted 'em.

HalfLife textures are so old and ugly that it's offensive to my eyes to see them used so much.
